You can check AirPods battery levels in Apple’s built-in controls on iPhone, Apple Watch, and Mac. On Android, you’ll generally need a third-party app: Android can pair with AirPods, but it does not provide Apple’s full battery interface. The case’s status light is a useful fallback, though it shows broad charge states rather than a percentage.
Quick guide: On iPhone, open the AirPods card in Settings or use the Batteries widget. On Apple Watch, open Control Center, tap the battery percentage, then turn the Digital Crown to find connected AirPods. On Mac, check the Bluetooth menu in the menu bar. On Android, pair the AirPods and use a battery-monitoring app if you want more than basic Bluetooth audio controls.

Battery displays may show the left earbud, right earbud, and charging case separately, but not every screen or model shows all three at once. AirPods Max have a single headphone battery reading, not separate left and right earbud levels. A listed or paired AirPods device is not necessarily connected and reporting its current charge.
Check AirPods battery on iPhone
Use the AirPods card in Settings
- Put the AirPods in your ears or open their charging case.
- Make sure they are connected to the iPhone.
- Open Settings and tap the AirPods’ name near the top of the screen.
- Check the battery information shown there.

Use Bluetooth settings as a fallback
- Open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the ⓘ Info button beside your AirPods.
- Look for the displayed charge information.
This is useful if the AirPods card is not visible on the main Settings screen. The information presented varies by model and iOS version; Apple also documents this route in its AirPods charging guidance.
Add a Batteries widget
For a quicker check, touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, tap Add Widget, search for Batteries, choose a size, and add it. When the AirPods are connected or recently active, the widget can show their charge alongside the iPhone and other Apple devices. If they are not available to the phone, their levels may not appear.
Turn on charging notifications, if supported
Apple lists charging notifications for AirPods 4 with ANC, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods Max 2 in its current guide. If your model and software support the option, open Settings, tap the AirPods’ name, tap Battery, then turn Charging Notifications on or off. Availability and labels can depend on model and iOS version.
Check AirPods battery on Apple Watch
- Make sure the AirPods are connected to the Apple Watch.
- Press the watch’s side button to open Control Center.
- Tap the displayed battery percentage.
- Rotate the Digital Crown to cycle through connected Bluetooth accessories and find the AirPods.
The percentage you first see is the watch’s own battery level; tapping it and turning the Crown is how you reach connected accessories. Apple describes this process in the Apple Watch battery guide.
If the AirPods are not connected, open Settings > Bluetooth on the watch and tap the AirPods in the list. Apple recommends using the latest available watchOS for its current pairing instructions. A battery complication is handy for a quick look at the watch’s own charge, but it is not a guaranteed, always-visible AirPods battery display; the accessory must be available to the watch.
Check AirPods battery on Mac
- Connect the AirPods to the Mac.
- Click the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar.
- Find the AirPods and read the battery percentage shown.
If Bluetooth is not in the menu bar, open System Settings > Menu Bar and enable Bluetooth under Menu Bar Controls. If the AirPods appear but have no current reading, open System Settings > Bluetooth, make sure Bluetooth is on, select the AirPods, and click Connect. A saved device that is not actively connected may not provide fresh battery information. Apple’s current guide covers the menu-bar method for macOS Tahoe and later; older macOS versions may use different labels.
Pairing controls vary by AirPods model. Older AirPods and AirPods Pro cases generally use the rear setup button; AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3 use a double-tap on the front of the case; AirPods Max use the listening-mode button. Follow Apple’s model-specific pairing instructions if you need to pair again.

Check AirPods battery on Android
Android can pair with AirPods as Bluetooth headphones, but it does not offer Apple’s complete native AirPods battery screen. Google’s Android pairing instructions explain how to connect them and note that some Apple-device features may not be supported.
Pair AirPods with an Android phone
- Open Android’s Bluetooth controls. On many phones, swipe down from the top, then touch and hold Bluetooth; menus vary by manufacturer.
- Tap Pair new device.
- Put the AirPods in their case and open the lid.
- For most cases, hold the rear setup button until the light flashes white. For AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3, use the case’s front pairing control as described in Apple’s model-specific instructions.
- Choose the AirPods when they appear under available devices.
To pair AirPods Max, choose Pair new device in Android Bluetooth settings, hold the noise-control button until the status light flashes white, and select AirPods Max.
Use a battery-monitoring app
After pairing, an app such as AirBattery may provide a pop-up, notification, or other battery display. Install it from a source you trust, open it, and grant only the permissions needed for the features you choose. Then open the AirPods case near the phone or reconnect the earbuds and check the app.

Do not treat an Android app’s number as a guaranteed exact reading. AirBattery’s Google Play listing says readings may appear in 10% increments because of Android/Bluetooth Low Energy limitations, and that case charge may update only when at least one AirPod is inside the case. Results depend on the phone, Android version, AirPods model, app permissions, and background restrictions. Some apps may show earbuds but not the case.

Pop-ups can require overlay permission, and Android battery optimization may prevent an app from updating in the background. Disabling optimization can improve updates but may increase background battery use. Check the app’s current permissions and data-safety information before installing; app features, ads, and privacy practices can change. Avoid sideloading APKs from unfamiliar sites.

If you cannot check a screen, open the case with the AirPods inside to see the earbuds’ charge status. When the AirPods are not in the case, the status light indicates the case’s charge state:
- Green: fully charged.
- Amber: less than one full charge remains.
- No light: the case may need charging.
The light gives a broad status, not a numeric percentage. Apple’s charge-status guide explains these indicators.
Troubleshooting missing or stale battery levels
AirPods do not appear on iPhone
- Confirm Bluetooth is on, then open the case or take the AirPods out.
- Check Settings > Bluetooth, not only the Settings home screen.
- If the AirPods appear but the reading looks stale, reconnect them.
- If they remain absent, put them in the case, close and reopen the lid, then pair again using the control for your model.
Only one earbud level appears
One AirPod may be in the case, asleep, disconnected, or not making contact with the charging contacts. Put both earbuds in the open case or in your ears, reconnect, and check again. Interfaces do not always display both readings in every circumstance.

The case often reports charge only when it is open, nearby, and communicating with the AirPods. On Android, an app may require at least one earbud to be in the case and may update the case level intermittently. Reopen the case near the phone and allow the connection to refresh.
Apple Watch does not show the AirPods
Being paired with the iPhone alone is not enough: check that the AirPods are connected to the watch. Open Control Center, tap the watch’s battery percentage, then rotate the Digital Crown. If needed, reconnect in Settings > Bluetooth on the watch.
Mac shows AirPods but no percentage
Confirm they are actively connected, open the Bluetooth menu-bar control, and reconnect through System Settings > Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is missing from the menu bar, enable it in System Settings > Menu Bar. If the problem persists, remove and pair the AirPods again using Apple’s instructions.
Android app does not update
Check Bluetooth, reconnect the AirPods, reopen the case near the phone, and review the app’s notification or overlay permissions. Battery optimization may restrict background updates; change that setting only if the trade-off in privacy and battery use is acceptable. Treat coarse readings as estimates.
