Galaxy Watches running Wear OS 3.0 or later can use the Strava app directly on the watch. Older Samsung watches that run Tizen lost direct Strava recording support on November 1, 2025. If you record workouts in Samsung Health instead, you can connect that app to Strava separately—but automatic workout syncing is limited to GPS-based activities, and the connection is for Android.
Choose one recording route for each workout: Strava on the watch, or Samsung Health. They are separate workflows, and recording in both can interrupt a workout or create duplicates.
First, check which Samsung watch you have
“Samsung watch” covers devices with different operating systems. Compatibility depends on the watch’s software, not just its name:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Wear OS 3.0 or later: Strava supports its Wear OS app on these watches. It can record time, distance and heart-rate data, with supported activity types including running, cycling, walking, hiking and outdoor swimming. Metrics and GPS behavior can vary by activity and device. See Strava’s Wear OS guidance.
- Tizen: Direct Strava support ended on November 1, 2025. Tizen watch users can still access their Strava accounts and historical data, but cannot record new activities directly on the watch or sync new watch activities. Details are in Strava’s Tizen support notice.
To check, open Settings → About watch on the watch and look for its model and software information. Menu wording may vary by version. If the operating system is unclear, search the exact model on Samsung’s support site rather than assuming every Galaxy Watch supports the same apps.

Choose the connection method that matches how you work out
| What you want to do | Use this method | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Start and stop a workout in Strava from your wrist | Install Strava on a Wear OS 3.0+ watch | Requires a supported watch; Bluetooth-only models rely on phone connectivity for some online functions and uploads. |
| Record in Samsung Health and send eligible workouts to Strava | Connect Samsung Health to Strava in the Android phone app | Automatic activity sync requires GPS-based activity data; the integration is not available through Samsung Health’s iOS app. |
| Share a Samsung Health workout that has no GPS | Share its statistics image manually, if desired | This is a social image or post, not an automatically synced full Strava activity. |
Strava says the Samsung Health integration can exchange details such as route information, activity type, distance, time and calories. Some Strava activity information can also flow back to Samsung Health. For the current scope and limitations, see Strava’s Samsung Health instructions.
Method 1: Install Strava directly on a Wear OS Galaxy Watch
Before you start
- A Galaxy Watch running Wear OS 3.0 or later.
- A compatible Android phone, with the watch paired through Galaxy Wearable.
- A Strava account and internet access for installation and authorization.
Set it up
- Pair the watch with your Android phone. Use Galaxy Wearable and complete the account setup it requests. Samsung describes this as the normal setup route for Wear OS Galaxy Watches: Samsung support.
- Install Strava on the watch. Find it in the watch’s Google Play app marketplace or the compatible wearable-app flow on your phone. Samsung lists Strava as an example of a fitness app for Wear OS Galaxy Watches.
- Open Strava on the watch. Sign in or follow the prompt to authorize your account on the phone. Strava says sign-in may happen automatically if you were already logged in during wearable pairing; otherwise, complete the phone-based authentication.
- Allow the requested permissions. Depending on Android and Wear OS versions, Strava may request access related to location, physical activity, sensors, notifications or background operation. Review the prompts and allow what is needed for the features you intend to use.
- Start a test workout. Choose an activity such as Run or Walk. For an outdoor GPS activity, wait for location to acquire before tapping Start.
- Stop and save the workout. Check the watch summary, then open Strava on your phone to confirm the activity arrived and contains the expected information.
Strava’s app can record heart-rate data, but that is not a guarantee of a complete or medically accurate reading on every watch or during every workout. Fit, sensor contact, permissions and activity conditions all matter.
Does the phone have to be nearby?
It depends on the watch and the feature. A Bluetooth-only watch generally needs a working phone connection for uploads and online services. Strava specifically says Wear OS 3-and-later watches without LTE need to be connected to a phone to send a Beacon message when an activity starts. LTE models can offer more independence, but LTE activation, carrier coverage, Wi-Fi, GPS, permissions and account state can still affect what works away from the phone. Do not assume that having LTE makes every Strava feature available offline.

Method 2: Connect Samsung Health to Strava
Use this route if Samsung Health is your workout recorder and you want eligible activities to appear in Strava. It does not install or launch Strava’s watch app, and it is an Android-only account connection.
- Open Samsung Health on your Android phone.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, then choose Settings.
- Tap Services, then switch on Strava.
- Complete the Strava authorization steps.
- Record and save a GPS-based workout in Samsung Health.
- Open Strava and check for the activity after Samsung Health has had time to sync.
The menu path can change with app versions. Strava’s current documented path is Samsung Health → three-dot menu → Settings → Services → Strava. See the integration support page if the option is missing or the authorization needs refreshing.
GPS is the important qualifier. GPS-based Samsung Health activities can sync as Strava activities. Non-GPS workouts do not automatically become Strava activities, though Samsung Health may let you share an image of the workout statistics. Sharing an image is different from sending a route-based activity with recorded workout data.
Record one workout without interruption or duplicates
- Decide where the activity will be recorded: Strava or Samsung Health.
- Open that app, select the activity type and, if outdoors, wait for GPS to acquire.
- Start recording and avoid starting another workout-tracking app.
- Pause, resume and stop the session in the app that began it.
- Save the activity, allow time for syncing, then check Strava on your phone.
Strava warns against running two active exercise trackers at once on Wear OS: only one exercise session can be active, and starting another app may end the first recording. Using Strava and Samsung Health for the same workout can also lead to duplicate uploads if both records sync. Pick a single source for each session.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | What to check and do |
|---|---|
| Strava is not available on the watch | Check the operating system and version first. Tizen watches are no longer supported for direct recording, and the Wear OS app requires Wear OS 3.0 or later. Confirm the watch is paired through Galaxy Wearable and signed in to the relevant Google Play account. Update software where updates are available. |
| A workout did not upload | Confirm it was saved rather than left paused. Check watch-to-phone Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or LTE connectivity, Strava authorization, and location or activity permissions. Battery-saving restrictions may affect background work. For a Bluetooth-only watch, bring the phone nearby and reopen Strava. Wait before recording again—the original may upload later, creating a duplicate. |
| GPS is missing or inaccurate | Check location permissions, move outdoors with a clear view of the sky and wait for a location lock before starting. Heavy cover, indoor recording and battery-saving settings can affect location. Confirm that the intended app is recording; starting one app does not ensure another app is capturing GPS. |
| Heart-rate data is missing | Check that the watch sits securely against the wrist and review sensor and activity permissions. Sensor contact, workout type, app limitations or another app using the sensor may affect the reading. Strava’s ability to record heart rate does not guarantee a continuous stream for every setup. |
| A Samsung Health workout is missing from Strava | Confirm the accounts are connected, Samsung Health has finished syncing, and you are checking the correct Strava account. Verify that the activity has GPS data; non-GPS Samsung Health workouts do not automatically sync as Strava activities. Reauthorize the connection if it was revoked. |
| The activity appears twice | Most often, the same workout was recorded in both apps or a delayed upload arrived after it was recorded again. Keep the copy with the data you want, then delete or make the duplicate private. Use one active recorder per workout. |
| Beacon will not send | Strava Beacon requires safety contacts to be configured in the Strava mobile app before first use and requires a Strava subscription. On Wear OS 3-and-later watches without LTE, a phone connection is required to send the message. Permissions, account state, coverage and network conditions can also matter. See Strava’s Wear OS notes. |
What Tizen watch owners can still do
If your Samsung watch runs Tizen, the cutoff is definitive: Strava ended direct support on November 1, 2025. Your Strava account and historical activities remain accessible, but the watch cannot record new Strava activities or sync new watch workouts after that date. A supported Wear OS watch or another Strava-compatible wearable is the practical option for recording directly from a watch. If you use an Android phone and your device supports Samsung Health, its separate integration may still send eligible GPS-based activities; it does not restore the retired Tizen Strava app.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you buy a Galaxy Watch for Strava?
A compatible Wear OS Galaxy Watch is a reasonable choice if you use Android, want Samsung’s watch and health ecosystem, and want to record to Strava from your wrist. The core Strava watch-app support does not require a particular premium Galaxy Watch tier; the right model depends on factors such as size, LTE, battery expectations and features beyond Strava.
It is a poor fit if you use an iPhone, expect LTE to eliminate every phone dependency, or need specialized endurance and multisport features beyond the basic Strava workflow. If you only want Samsung Health’s GPS workouts to appear in Strava, first check whether your existing Android phone and watch can use the Health integration; you may not need a new watch just for that.

Strava and Samsung announced a 60-day Strava subscription trial with eligible Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 purchases, with Strava pre-installed on those upcoming models. The offer is not universal: eligibility is limited by account, territory and purchase conditions, is listed through July 31, 2027, and converts to an auto-renewing annual subscription unless canceled at least 24 hours before renewal. Check the current eligibility and redemption terms before counting it as part of a purchase. Do not assume it applies to every buyer or region.

For a straightforward recommendation: choose direct Strava recording on Wear OS 3.0+ if Strava is where you want to start and manage workouts; choose Samsung Health sync if you already record there and mainly want GPS-based activities copied into Strava. If neither describes your needs, compatibility alone is not a reason to buy a new watch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Strava on a Galaxy Watch without a phone?
A watch’s capabilities depend on its connection. Bluetooth-only models generally need a phone connection for uploads and online features; LTE models can do more independently, but coverage, setup, permissions and feature requirements still apply. Strava specifically requires a phone connection for Beacon on Wear OS 3-and-later watches without LTE.
Can a Samsung watch connect to an iPhone?
Strava’s current Wear OS guidance says Samsung watches are not compatible with iPhones. Galaxy Wear OS watches are set up through Galaxy Wearable on a compatible Android phone.
Recommended Free Tools
Can Samsung Health automatically send workouts to Strava?
Yes, when the accounts are connected on Android, GPS-based Samsung Health activities can sync to Strava. Non-GPS workouts do not automatically become Strava activities.

Can I record in Samsung Health and Strava at the same time?
It is not recommended. Wear OS supports only one active exercise session, and starting a second workout app can end the first recording. Recording the same session in both apps can also create duplicates.
Does Strava Beacon require a subscription?
Yes. Beacon also requires safety contacts configured in the Strava mobile app before first use, and a phone connection is required for supported Wear OS watches without LTE.
What happens to Strava data from a Tizen watch?
Historical Strava account data remains accessible, but direct Tizen watch recording and syncing of new watch activities ended on November 1, 2025.
