Some older Xiaomi Mi Bands—particularly the original Mi Band, Mi Band 1S and Mi Band 2—historically paired with Windows 10 Mobile using the unofficial Bind Mi Band app. There is no current official Xiaomi app for Windows 10 Mobile, and the legacy method is not dependable for newer Smart Bands. If you have a Mi Band 4 or later, plan to use a supported Android or iPhone instead.

This guide is for Windows 10 Mobile on a Lumia or another phone, not Windows 10 on a PC. Microsoft ended Windows 10 Mobile support on December 10, 2019; version 1709 was its final release (Microsoft’s end-of-support notice).

Check your Mi Band model first

“Mi Band” covers multiple generations, and the old Windows workaround does not apply equally to all of them. Bind Mi Band was a third-party client, not Xiaomi software; historical reports document its use with early bands, while a contemporary test reported that the Mi Smart Band 4 would not connect successfully.

Band Windows 10 Mobile outlook
Original Mi Band, Mi Band 1A/1S, Mi Band 2 Historically supported by Bind Mi Band. Worth trying if you have a compatible phone and can install the app.
Mi Band 3 Uncertain. Compatibility depends on the app release, band firmware and phone build; do not assume it will work.
Mi Smart Band 4 Low prospects: contemporary testing reported failure with the legacy utility (review of the Mi Smart Band 4).
Mi Band 5 and newer, including current Smart Bands Not a realistic Windows 10 Mobile option. Xiaomi’s companion-app requirements are for Android or iOS, not Windows 10 Mobile.

For example, Xiaomi says Mi Band 5 pairs with Zepp Life and lists Android 5.0 or later and iOS 10.0 or later (Mi Band 5 FAQ). Smart Band 8 requires Mi Fitness on Android 6.0 or iOS 12.0 or later (Xiaomi Smart Band 8 guidance), while Smart Band 9 lists Android 8.0 or iOS 12.0 or later (Xiaomi Smart Band 9 FAQ). These requirements do not include Windows 10 Mobile.

Which app do you need?

The legacy app was Bind Mi Band, an independent Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile client. Historically it handled basic band connection and some data or settings on compatible older models. It was never an official Xiaomi app, and there is no current Xiaomi-supported Windows 10 Mobile route.

The names of Xiaomi’s phone apps can be confusing: Mi Fit was renamed Zepp Life in 2022, while newer Xiaomi wearables use Mi Fitness. Those current apps are for Android and iOS. Do not expect either one to install on a Lumia.

For alerts, a separate app called Notify Mi Band was used alongside Bind Mi Band on supported Windows 10 Mobile installations. Notification support is optional and more fragile than basic syncing.

What you need before pairing

  • A Windows 10 Mobile phone with Bluetooth Low Energy support.
  • An older Mi Band with a plausible chance of legacy compatibility, charged and switched on.
  • The band unbound from any previous phone or account. If you still have the old phone, unbind it in its companion app first.
  • Bind Mi Band installed on the Lumia, if it remains available through Microsoft Store on that device.
  • For notifications, Notify Mi Band as well as the required notification and background permissions.

Historical users sometimes recommended first pairing an older band with Android to obtain a firmware update. Treat that as a reported workaround, not a universal prerequisite or guarantee. Firmware updates and cloud functions that worked years ago may no longer be available.

Pair an older Mi Band: step by step

  1. Charge and wake the band. Give it enough charge to stay on throughout setup. If it is new, attach it to its charger first to activate it.
  2. Clear old connections. On the Windows phone, open Settings and go to Devices or Bluetooth, depending on the build. Remove any saved Mi Band entry. If another phone still owns the band, unbind it there. A reset may be needed if the previous phone is unavailable, but reset options vary by model.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth. Keep the phone close to the band. This is not quite like pairing headphones: the Windows Bluetooth listing alone does not establish that the companion app can bind the wearable.
  4. Discover the band. Scan from the phone’s Bluetooth settings. Historical Bind Mi Band instructions began by adding the band as a Bluetooth device. If it does not show up, try the troubleshooting steps below before moving on.
  5. Open Bind Mi Band. Choose its add-device or connection option and select the matching generation if the app asks. Names and screens can differ between old app versions.
  6. Confirm on the band. Watch for flashing LEDs or a pairing prompt. When asked, tap the band’s touch button. Missing this brief physical confirmation can leave setup stuck even if the phone sees the device. Historical Mi Band 2 instructions describe confirming while its LEDs blink (Windows United’s historical procedure).
  7. Check what actually syncs. Depending on model and app version, a successful connection may expose battery level, steps, distance, calories, alarms, heart-rate readings on compatible hardware, or firmware information. Seeing the band connected does not prove that cloud backup, firmware updating or every record type still works. Historical coverage also noted that some sleep-history features could be limited to paid app features.

Set up notifications (optional)

Notifications historically required Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update and the separate Notify Mi Band app; they are not guaranteed even if basic syncing works. The historical setup was:

  1. Use a Bind Mi Band version that supports notification integration (historical instructions specified version 1.18 or later).
  2. Open Bind Mi Band settings and select Authorize for Notify Mi Band.
  3. Install or open Notify Mi Band and grant the requested notification and background permissions.
  4. Select which phone apps may send alerts and check that battery or background restrictions are not stopping the apps.

Instructions for the authorization flow are documented in the app’s historical Notify Mi Band update notes. Expect compromises: alerts may be generic, delayed or incomplete, and a band’s notification icon does not necessarily identify the app, caller or message. If basic syncing works but alerts do not, treat it as a notification-integration problem rather than proof that the band is unpaired.

Troubleshoot by symptom

The band does not appear in Bluetooth

  • Charge it and keep it close to the phone.
  • Toggle Bluetooth off and back on, then scan again.
  • Restart the phone and try once more.
  • Temporarily remove a thick phone case and move away from other active Bluetooth devices.
  • Check that another phone is not already connected to the band.

These are sensible recovery steps, and some were reported by historical Windows Phone users; they are not a current Xiaomi troubleshooting guarantee.

The phone sees it, but Bind Mi Band will not connect

It may still be bound to another phone, the model or firmware may not be supported, or the Bluetooth state may be stuck. Remove the saved Bluetooth entry, restart the Lumia, toggle Bluetooth, bring the band close, and restart the bind process from the app. Watch the band and tap its touch button if its LEDs flash or it shows a confirmation prompt. If you can access the previously paired phone, unbind the band there first.

Pairing stops at confirmation

Start the bind process again and watch the band rather than only the phone screen. Tap its touch surface while the LEDs or pairing prompt are active; the confirmation window may be brief.

It connects but does not sync data

A Bluetooth connection is not the same as full app or account synchronization. The app may only partly support that model, the band may remain paired elsewhere, or the app’s background operation or cloud integration may have stopped working. Restart both devices and check again, but do not assume that firmware updates, historical records or cloud backup are recoverable.

Notify Mi Band receives no alerts

Confirm that Notify Mi Band is installed, Bind Mi Band authorization is enabled, notification permissions are granted, and the phone is running a build that supports the integration (historically, Anniversary Update or later). Check the app selection and background restrictions too. Even with those settings right, delivery and alert details may be limited.

Bind Mi Band is unavailable in Microsoft Store

Store availability cannot be assumed. An archived APPX or XAP installer is not an official Microsoft or Xiaomi distribution channel. Sideloading an abandoned package can fail because of incompatibility, expired certificates or missing dependencies, and a package may be altered or request sensitive permissions. Do not install a file from an unverified source; back up the phone, check provenance and requested permissions, and stop if the package appears modified, unsigned or asks for unrelated access. An archive listing is not proof of safety or compatibility.

If you have a newer Xiaomi Smart Band

Use the companion app specified for your exact model on Android or iOS. Xiaomi’s guidance, for instance, directs Smart Band 8 and 9 owners to Mi Fitness with the operating-system minimums noted above. A supported Android phone or iPhone can be used to activate, bind, configure, update and sync a band. That does not mean it will then keep working fully with Windows 10 Mobile: there is no supported Windows phone integration to rely on.

Some bands can show time, steps or other locally available information without a companion phone, but setup, configuration, firmware maintenance and synchronization generally depend on a supported app. If dependable phone integration matters, choose a wearable for the Android or iOS phone you use rather than buying a new Xiaomi band for a Lumia.

Bottom line: If you already own an original Mi Band, 1S or 2, Bind Mi Band is a reasonable legacy experiment if you can obtain it safely. For Mi Band 3, compatibility is uncertain; for Mi Band 4 and later, especially current Smart Bands, Windows 10 Mobile is not a practical supported pairing platform.
