Yes—you can connect Fitbit to MyFitnessPal. In MyFitnessPal’s current interface, look for Google Health (formerly Fitbit). After you authorize the connection, select Google Health as your step source; linking the accounts alone may not turn on step tracking. Menu labels can vary slightly by platform or account interface.
Before you connect
- Set up your Fitbit device and confirm it is syncing to your Fitbit/Google Health account. If current activity is missing from that app, fix that connection first.
- Have a MyFitnessPal account ready, and use the same MyFitnessPal login in the app and on the website.
- Update both apps, use a stable internet connection and approve the requested permissions during setup.
- Check that the time zones in Fitbit/Google Health and MyFitnessPal match. MyFitnessPal says a time-zone mismatch can affect calorie-adjustment calculations.
MyFitnessPal currently labels this integration Google Health (formerly Fitbit). If older directions tell you to find a Fitbit option, search for Google Health instead.
Connect in the MyFitnessPal app
On iPhone
- Open MyFitnessPal and tap More in the bottom-right corner. If More is not shown, tap the profile icon in the upper-right.
- Tap Apps & Devices, then choose Google Health.
- Tap Connect. If prompted, sign in again with the same MyFitnessPal email and password you use in the app.
- Complete the authorization prompts and allow the requested data access.
- Return to the menu, tap Steps and select Google Health as the step source.
On Android
- Open MyFitnessPal and tap More in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap Apps & Devices, then choose Google Health.
- Tap Connect, sign in to MyFitnessPal with the same credentials you use in the app, and complete the authorization prompts.
- Return to the menu, tap Steps and select Google Health.
MyFitnessPal’s current connection instructions are available in its Google Health/Fitbit setup guide.
Connect on the MyFitnessPal website
Use the website if linking in the app fails; MyFitnessPal recommends this route as a fallback.

What syncs between Fitbit/Google Health and MyFitnessPal?
The integration carries different kinds of information in different directions; it is not a copy of every Fitbit screen or workout into MyFitnessPal.

Why steps and calorie adjustments do not match
Steps are imported activity data; a calorie adjustment is a separate calculation. MyFitnessPal compares the tracker’s projected total daily calorie burn with the baseline built into your MyFitnessPal calorie goal. Steps alone do not earn a fixed number of calories, and a step count does not guarantee an adjustment.
- If the tracker’s projected burn is no higher than the baseline, the adjustment may be zero.
- It can rise after activity and fall later as new data, rest or sleep changes the projection.
- The adjustment may be positive or negative depending on activity and your settings.
- The projected figure and actual burn can differ during the day; MyFitnessPal says they should converge more closely at midnight.
MyFitnessPal describes the calculation in its calorie-adjustment explanation and Google Health/Fitbit troubleshooting guide. Compare the adjustment’s “burned as of” time with the latest data shown in Google Health, and make sure the services use the same time zone.

Optional negative adjustments
A negative adjustment can lower your daily calorie goal when the tracker reports less activity than MyFitnessPal expected. It is a choice, not a universally better setting: intermittent device wear can make a low-activity reading misleading, while consistent wear and regular syncing can give the calculation more context.
To enable it, sign in on the MyFitnessPal website, open Settings → Diary Settings, check Enable Negative Adjustments and click Save Changes. MyFitnessPal says this control is available on the website. Its negative-adjustment guidance suggests considering whether you wear the tracker consistently, sync several times daily and want the goal to be reduced when reported activity is lower.

Verify that the connection is working
- Check the connection: On the MyFitnessPal website, open Apps and look under Your Apps for Google Health.
- Check the step source: In the app, open Steps and confirm Google Health is selected. On the website, use Apps → Steps.
- Check the upstream data: Confirm your latest Fitbit activity is visible in Google Health. If it is not, MyFitnessPal cannot receive it.
- Refresh and allow time: In Google Health, pull down from the top of the home screen to refresh. MyFitnessPal says data should update within approximately 15 minutes after reaching Google Health; this is an expected window, not a guarantee.
Troubleshoot missing data
Work through these checks in order, from least disruptive to most disruptive:
- Make sure Fitbit is syncing upstream. Check that current steps or other expected data appear in Google Health. If they do not, troubleshoot the Fitbit-to-Google-Health handoff first.
- Confirm the MyFitnessPal connection and permissions. Look under Apps → Your Apps on the MyFitnessPal website. If Google Health is missing, connect it again and complete authorization.
- Confirm Google Health is selected as the step source. A connected account does not automatically mean the step-source setting is correct.
- Refresh Google Health and wait. Pull down on its home screen, then allow approximately 15 minutes for data that has arrived there to update in MyFitnessPal.
- Disconnect and relink on both sides if data still will not arrive. MyFitnessPal’s reset sequence is specific:
- On the MyFitnessPal website, open Apps, choose Google Health and click Disconnect.
- In the Google Health app, open the phone icon/menu, tap Partner Apps, select MyFitnessPal and tap Disconnect.
- Wait 15 minutes.
- Return to the MyFitnessPal website—not the mobile app—and connect Google Health again.
- Confirm it appears under Your Apps and select it under Steps.
- Contact support if another account is already linked. If MyFitnessPal reports that another account is linked to the Fitbit/Google Health account, MyFitnessPal directs users to contact support and include their Google Health ID. MyFitnessPal says the ID is in Google Health under Health → Profile → Account Information. Avoid creating a second account as a first fix.
The complete recovery instructions are in MyFitnessPal’s troubleshooting guide. Disconnecting on only one side may leave the authorization relationship partly active.
Quick Recap
Other common surprises
- No old data appears: MyFitnessPal says only future information transfers after connection. Historical meals are not sent to Google Health either, so connect before relying on the link for ongoing tracking.
- Workout totals seem duplicated: Avoid manually adding the same workout if corresponding activity-related calorie data is already feeding the connected total-energy calculation. MyFitnessPal accounts for manually logged cardio in its adjustment calculation, but the exact display depends on the data path and what you log.
- The Fitbit option seems to have disappeared: Search for Google Health; MyFitnessPal’s current support materials use the label “Google Health (formerly Fitbit).”
