The correct Fitbit export method depends on how you sign in. If Fitbit uses your Google Account, export through Google Health or Google Takeout. If you still use a separate Fitbit login, the older Fitbit Settings → Data Export route may appear, but it is now a legacy path: Google ended Fitbit-account access on May 19, 2026, and began processing deletions for non-migrated accounts on July 15, 2026.
Choose a complete archive for backup or migration, a selected-data export for analysis, or a single GPS workout export when you only need one run or ride.
1. Check which Fitbit account you have
- Google Account: If the Fitbit app asks for a Google email address, use the Google Health/Google data-download route described below.
- Legacy Fitbit login: A separate Fitbit username and password may still expose the old export page, but availability is no longer assured. Google says Fitbit-account access ended on May 19, 2026. For accounts that were not migrated, Google began processing data deletions on July 15, 2026; deleted-account data cannot be exported. Do not create a new Fitbit login as a workaround.
Google’s current guidance is available in How do I export my Fitbit data? and the Fitbit-to-Google Account migration help page.

- Sign in to the Google Account linked to Fitbit.
- Open Google’s data-download controls or the Google Health export controls.
- Select Google Health (or the relevant Fitbit/Google Health product).
- Choose the categories to include, then select Next step.
- Choose a delivery method, such as an email download link or Google Drive. Other destinations may appear depending on your account.
- Choose a one-time archive, or a scheduled export if that option is offered.
- Select the archive file type and maximum archive size, then select Create export.
- Wait for the completion email, download every archive part, and extract the files on a computer.
- Open
archive_browser.html. It is the archive’s built-in guide to the folders and files.
Takeout can split a large export into multiple archives. A scheduled export, where available, creates an archive every two months for one year. Google notes that Advanced Protection users may have a two-day delay for a one-time archive and may not be offered scheduled exports. Changes made after you request the export may not appear in the resulting archive. See Google’s archive options.
3. Export selected Fitbit data
Use a selected export when you need a limited period, particular categories, or a smaller file for a spreadsheet or research project. The Fitbit-specific export interface may let you choose a time period, data categories, and format. Those controls are not universal: Google warns that some Takeout products and data types do not support arbitrary date ranges.
For a doctor’s appointment or short analysis, select only the required categories and period when the interface offers them. For a legal or privacy record, use the complete archive instead so you do not accidentally omit a category.

4. Export one GPS workout as a TCX file
For a single run, ride, hike, or other GPS exercise, use the Google Health app rather than creating a full account archive:
- Open the Google Health app.
- Open the Fitness tab.
- Select the activity.
- Tap More, then Export.
- Save or share the resulting TCX file.
TCX is suited to activity and route data; it is not a substitute for your complete Fitbit health archive. Google says Strava does not import Fitbit or Pixel Watch activities from Google Health/Health Connect or Apple Health, so a TCX file may be needed for an individual activity. Avoid importing the same workout through more than one route, which can create duplicates. See Google’s third-party device and app guidance.
5. Legacy Fitbit-login export (only if the account still works)
- Open the Fitbit settings page and sign in with the separate Fitbit account.
- Under Settings, open Data Export.
- Under Export Your Account Archive, select Request Data.
- Open the confirmation email sent to the account address and confirm the request.
- Wait for the second email containing the download link.
- Follow the link to the Data Export page and download the archive to a computer.
This is a conditional, legacy procedure—not the default route in 2026. If the account was not migrated before Google’s May 19 cutoff and its data has entered the deletion process that began July 15, the archive may no longer be available. A Fitbit family-account export can contain separate folders for each child account.

6. What can the archive contain?
Google lists categories that can include:
- Account and profile-management information
- Steps, distance, active minutes, calories, floors, heart rate, and stationary time
- Exercise history and logs
- Sleep data
- Body, weight, and food information
- GPS records
- Friends, community information, and direct messages
- Purchases and commerce records
- Corporate-wellness information
- Health metrics such as SpO2, estimated oxygen variation, and skin temperature
The exact categories depend on your account, device, enabled features, connected services, and data still present. A deleted account’s data is not recoverable through export. The archive may contain many folders rather than one complete spreadsheet.
7. Understand the file formats
| Format | Best use |
|---|---|
| CSV | Spreadsheets, filtering, and basic analysis |
| JSON | Scripts and structured-data processing |
| HTML | Reading records in a browser |
| TCX | One GPS workout for compatible fitness services |
Keep the original downloaded archive unchanged. Make a working copy before editing or importing files. Use a desktop computer, extract all ZIP parts locally, and start with archive_browser.html rather than opening a huge archive from an email preview or phone file viewer.
8. Troubleshoot a missing or failed export
No email arrived
- Check the address on the Google or Fitbit account and inspect spam or junk folders.
- Confirm that you requested the export from the account that actually contains the Fitbit history.
- Check the export-status page where the interface provides one.
- Submit a new request. For a large archive, select fewer products or a smaller maximum archive size.
- Try downloading on a computer. If it still fails, use Google’s account-data and Takeout troubleshooting.
The archive will not generate or download
Retry the export with fewer products or one product at a time. Choose a smaller archive size, download each part separately, or deliver it to a supported cloud destination. Ensure the destination has enough free storage.

Old records are missing
Check for a second Google Account, a non-migrated Fitbit account, deleted data, or a metric your device never collected. Look in other category folders and remember that an archive snapshot may not include changes made after the request. Google does not provide exports of deleted-account data.
An unexpected export email arrived
Do not follow an unexpected link. Google advises changing the Fitbit password; Google Account users should also review account security, recent activity, and active sessions.
9. Privacy and data-quality precautions
A Fitbit archive can include sleep, heart rate, weight, food entries, GPS routes, messages, community relationships, purchases, and account details. Download it only to a trusted device, avoid public computers, and store it in an encrypted or access-controlled location. Treat TCX files as location data, do not upload the complete archive to an unfamiliar service, and delete temporary extracted copies when finished. Exporting creates a copy; it does not delete Google’s server-side data.
Best Value

For medical or research use, verify units, time zones, missing days, duplicates, and whether a value is a daily summary, interval series, manually entered value, or derived score. The export is a copy of Fitbit/Google Health records—not a clinical interpretation or diagnosis.
Quick reference
| Goal | Use |
|---|---|
| All historical Fitbit records | Google Health/Google data archive |
| Limited period or categories | Selected Fitbit export, if the controls are offered |
| One GPS workout | Google Health activity export as TCX |
| Legacy Fitbit login | Conditional old Data Export route; it may no longer be available |
The Bottom Line
Use Google Health or Google Takeout for a Google-linked Fitbit account, the selected export when its date and category controls meet your needs, and Google Health’s TCX export for one GPS workout. Treat the old Fitbit Data Export page as a legacy option only, because 2026 migration and deletion deadlines may have removed access.
