You can reset a locked Samsung Galaxy Watch without entering its PIN or pattern, but you cannot recover or remove the forgotten lock without erasing the watch. Use Samsung Find/SmartThings Find if the watch is linked to your Samsung account and reachable; otherwise, use the model-appropriate hardware-button recovery reset. Either route deletes local data, and setup afterward may require the Google account previously used on the watch.
Before you reset: know what will be erased
Samsung’s U.S. guidance says a forgotten watch PIN or pattern cannot be changed without resetting the watch. This is a factory wipe, not a password bypass. Data stored only on the watch is permanently erased; Samsung Find cannot recover it. A backup made through Galaxy Wearable may be available to restore during setup, but treat anything not backed up as lost. You will also need to pair and configure the watch again.
- Identify the exact model. Button combinations and menu labels vary by model and software version. The instructions below describe Samsung’s U.S. guidance for supported Galaxy watches, not every Gear or Galaxy Fit device.
- Gather account details. Remote erase requires the Samsung account associated with the watch. After resetting, Google-account verification may also be required.
- Charge the watch. Keep enough battery available for the reset and restart.
- Consider the connection. Samsung recommends unpairing the watch from its phone before a direct reset, if possible, to help avoid connection problems.
- Plan for LTE service. If you activated an LTE watch using a QR code, you may need a replacement code from your carrier after resetting.

Choose a reset method

Method 1: erase the watch remotely
Try this first if the watch is connected to your Samsung account and reachable. Samsung calls the service Samsung Find or SmartThings Find; the name and interface may vary by region or current web interface.

- In a browser, open Samsung Find/SmartThings Find and sign in to the Samsung account linked to the watch.
- Select the watch from the device list.
- Choose Erase data and confirm. If asked, enter the Samsung account password.
- Allow the watch to receive the request, reset, and restart. Do not assume the wipe is complete just because you submitted the request.
- When it is ready, pair the watch again through the Galaxy Wearable app and complete setup.
Remote erase is not guaranteed for a powered-off, depleted, offline, unregistered, or unsupported device. If the watch does not appear, check that you are signed in to the right Samsung account, charge and power on the watch if possible, then use recovery mode. Samsung says the Galaxy Fit cannot be remotely reset through the cited SmartThings Find procedure. See Samsung’s remote-reset and reconnection guidance.
If the remote request appears to succeed but the watch remains locked, wait for a restart. If it still has not reset, use the direct recovery procedure below.

Method 2: reset from Recovery mode
This method initiates a factory wipe from the watch itself without entering the forgotten PIN. The exact key sequence is model-sensitive. If the steps do not produce a Reboot Mode menu, stop and check Samsung’s instructions for your exact model rather than repeating a sequence intended for another generation.
1. Unpair from the phone if possible
On the connected phone, open Settings → Connections → Bluetooth, tap the settings icon next to the watch, and choose Unpair. If you cannot access or unpair it, continue with the watch reset.

2. Open Reboot Mode
- Power the watch off.
- Power it back on. As it starts, press and hold the Power/Home key until “Rebooting…” appears.
- For a Galaxy Watch3, press and hold the Power and Back keys together until that message appears.
- Release the key or keys, then immediately press and release the Power key repeatedly until the Reboot Mode menu opens.
3. Select Recovery
- Press and release the Power key until Recovery is highlighted.
- Press and hold the Power key to select it.
- Release the key when the screen goes dark, then allow the watch to complete the reset and restart.
When the Welcome screen appears, pair the watch with the Galaxy Wearable app. Samsung’s direct-reset instructions and model/software troubleshooting guidance cover variations in the sequence. Older Tizen watches may have different menus; do not assume the Watch3 exception or the sequence above applies to every Galaxy Watch, Gear, or Galaxy Fit.
Method 3: automatic reset after 20 failed attempts
If Auto factory reset was enabled in the watch’s lock settings before the lockout, Samsung says the watch resets after 20 unsuccessful PIN or pattern attempts. This setting is optional and model-dependent; it is not a guaranteed fallback. Only continue entering incorrect credentials if you know the feature was enabled and accept the permanent data loss. The watch may still require verification of its previously connected Google account during setup.

Set up the watch after the wipe
- Charge the watch, then start from the Welcome screen.
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone and follow its pairing and setup prompts.
- Sign in with the relevant Samsung account. If prompted, verify the Google account previously associated with the watch.
- Restore an available backup. Reinstall apps and watch faces, and reconfigure health, payment, and notification features as needed.
- Install available updates for the watch and Galaxy Wearable app.
- For an LTE watch, contact your carrier if cellular service does not reactivate; a QR-code activation may need to be reissued.
Google verification is not required in every case, but it may be part of setup after a reset. A reset does not remove account-security checks or establish ownership. Samsung’s forgotten-lock guidance and post-reset instructions explain these limitations.

- The watch is missing from Samsung Find: Confirm the Samsung account, charge and power on the watch, and try recovery mode. Remote erase cannot be promised when a watch is offline or not linked to the account. Galaxy Fit is excluded from Samsung’s cited remote-reset procedure.
- Recovery Mode never appears: Make sure the watch is restarting, use the key combination for the exact model, and begin repeated Power-key presses immediately after releasing the initial hold. A normal reboot is not the Reboot Mode menu. Keep the watch charged and consult the model-specific Samsung page.
- The watch is frozen or boot-looping: If it can restart normally, let it do so before attempting recovery. A reset may help with a software problem, but if the issue persists after reset and updates, seek service.
- Buttons or screen do not respond, or the watch will not power on: Recovery may not be possible without working controls. Request a diagnosis through Samsung U.S. repair support or use its service information. Cost depends on diagnosis, warranty, repair type, and location; there is no universal reset price.
- You cannot remember the Samsung account password: Recover the account through Samsung’s official account process or contact Samsung support. Recovery mode can wipe the watch, but it does not remove account verification; remote erase also requires the associated Samsung account.
Buying or inheriting a used watch
If a previous owner’s Samsung or Google account is still associated with the watch, you may be unable to finish setup after resetting it. Ask the previous owner to unpair the watch and remove it from their accounts before transfer. Exact account menus vary by model and software version. If the seller cannot complete the handoff, a reset alone may not make the watch usable; contact Samsung rather than paying a third party that claims it can bypass the lock.

Do not use unofficial “FRP bypass,” cracked tools, or firmware services. Account verification is a security control, not a fault that a factory wipe is supposed to defeat.
Model and service notes
- Galaxy Watch4 and newer Wear OS models: Follow the model-specific recovery instructions and be prepared for Google-account verification during setup.
- Galaxy Watch3: Samsung specifies holding Power and Back together to reach the “Rebooting…” stage.
- Older Tizen Galaxy Watches and Gear devices: Lock screens, controls, and recovery menus may differ; check the exact model’s Samsung support page.
- Galaxy Fit: Samsung excludes it from the cited SmartThings Find remote-reset method; do not rely on remote erasure being available.
Samsung’s forgotten-watch-password troubleshooting page is a useful model-aware starting point. The U.S. repair pages are for U.S. customers; availability and support paths elsewhere may differ.
