Yes, a compatible Samsung Galaxy Watch can ring a paired Galaxy phone and, when the required connections and settings are available, help show its location. On the watch, press the Home button, open Samsung Find, complete the permission prompts, select your phone, and tap the phone-shaped Ring icon.
This works most reliably when the phone is powered on and nearby over Bluetooth. A watch with Wi-Fi or activated LTE may also support remote access, but it cannot recover a phone that is dead, unregistered, permanently offline, or never configured for finding.
Ring your Samsung phone from your Galaxy Watch
- Press the watch’s Home button.
- Open Samsung Find. On older watch software, the feature may appear as Find My Phone or use a different label.
- Tap Continue and grant the requested permissions if prompted.
- Select your missing phone from the device list.
- Tap the phone-shaped Ring icon.
The phone should emit an audible alert so you can search nearby. Samsung also provides a control on the watch to stop or dismiss the alert once you find it. The alert’s exact behavior can vary with the phone’s software, battery, volume, connection, and device state, so do not treat ringing as guaranteed in every silent, damaged, offline, or powered-off situation.

Prepare Samsung Find before your phone goes missing
The watch shortcut depends on the phone already being associated with the correct Samsung account and configured for finding. Set up these options while you still have the phone:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Security and privacy → Lost device protection.
- Confirm that Allow this phone to be found is enabled.
- Enable Send last location.
- Enable Offline finding.
Your phone should also be turned on, signed in to a Samsung account, and connected to a stable network. Menu names can differ by Galaxy model, Android version, One UI version, and region. If the path does not match, use Settings search for Lost device protection, Find, or Offline finding.

It is worth testing the setup now. Open Samsung Find on the watch, confirm that the phone appears, and verify that the watch can initiate the ring command. A device that does not appear before it is lost is unlikely to become available during an emergency.
Samsung Find, SmartThings Find, and the web
Samsung Find is the watch-facing interface for selecting a registered Galaxy device and starting actions such as ringing it. SmartThings Find is Samsung’s broader device-finding service, available through supported Galaxy devices and the web. Samsung’s newer support material uses both names, and the exact interface can depend on the device and software version.

If the watch cannot reach the phone, use a browser and sign in with the same Samsung account associated with the missing device. Samsung documents browser access through its device-finding support page. You can also use Samsung’s SmartThings Find information and controls where available.
Can a Galaxy Watch find a phone outside Bluetooth range?
Potentially, yes—but Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and LTE are not interchangeable.

| Wi-Fi | May allow remote communication when the watch and phone are not next to each other, provided the relevant devices and services are online. |
| LTE | An activated LTE watch can connect independently over cellular when away from the phone. LTE hardware alone does not provide service. |
Samsung says the watch may connect to the phone through Bluetooth or remotely through Wi-Fi or LTE. Remote finding still depends on the phone being powered on, associated with the correct Samsung account, discoverable through Samsung’s service, and able to communicate with that service.
A Bluetooth/Wi-Fi watch is generally best for finding a phone left at home, in a car, or at work. An LTE watch is more useful if you may have left the phone somewhere else and the watch remains online, but it may require a compatible carrier plan and recurring service. It does not make a dead, factory-reset, unregistered, or unreachable phone recoverable.
If the Ring button does not work
- Move closer. The watch may simply be outside Bluetooth range.
- Check the watch connection. Look for a Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or LTE connection indicator. A disconnected Bluetooth-only watch cannot independently use cellular data.
- Confirm the device and account. The watch may be paired with another phone, signed in to another Samsung account, or missing permissions.
- Try the browser. Open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find on another phone, tablet, or computer and sign in with the Samsung account used on the missing phone.
- Check the map. Use the displayed location or last-known location to decide whether the phone is nearby or was left somewhere else.
- Try remote controls. Depending on device and service availability, Samsung provides controls such as Ring, Lock, location tracking, a contact message, battery-life extension, and device deletion.
A phone that does not appear at all may have a pairing, account, permission, software, regional-support, battery, or network problem. Samsung notes that features vary by device and software version.

What Offline finding actually does
Offline finding is not live GPS tracking. When enabled in advance, Samsung’s system can use nearby participating Samsung devices to detect a registered missing Galaxy device over Bluetooth and report its location anonymously.

It also depends on another participating Samsung device passing nearby. In a sparsely populated area, a location may be delayed or unavailable. The result can be a recent or last-known location rather than the phone’s exact current position.
Samsung also documents an Encrypt Offline Location option. Viewing an offline lost-device location may require a six-digit PIN, depending on the configured privacy settings. Details are available in Samsung’s SmartThings Find documentation.
What if the phone is powered off or dead?
Samsung says that when a device is powered off, only its last known location may be available. A phone with a dead battery cannot normally be made to ring.
Use the map to identify where it was last connected, then check chargers, vehicles, bags, and other places where the battery may have run down. Offline finding may help only when it was enabled beforehand and the phone can still be detected by a nearby participating device. It is not a promise that a completely dead, destroyed, factory-reset, or permanently disconnected phone can be located.

If the phone may have been stolen
Treat a suspected theft differently from a phone lost under furniture. A map address is an estimated or last-reported location, not proof that the phone is currently there or that a particular person has it.
- Use Lock and display a message with a safe contact method.
- Do not confront anyone or attempt a private recovery.
- Contact your carrier and, where appropriate, law enforcement.
- Change important account passwords if the device may be compromised.
- Use remote erase only after considering the consequences.
Deletion can protect personal data, but it may also remove or limit your ability to continue locating the phone. It should generally be a last resort rather than the first response to a simple misplacement.

The steps above reflect Samsung’s U.S. support instructions available in August 2026. Menu names, supported models, and required software can differ by watch generation, phone model, Android or One UI version, region, and carrier.
The main instructions assume a Galaxy phone paired with a Galaxy Watch. If you use a non-Samsung Android phone, check your watch model’s current Galaxy Wearable compatibility, Samsung account registration requirements, and regional feature availability. Do not assume that every Samsung Find feature works identically across all Android phones.

Bluetooth or LTE: which Galaxy Watch makes sense?
- Choose Bluetooth/Wi-Fi if you mainly want a convenient way to ring a phone that is usually nearby and do not need independent cellular connectivity.
- Choose LTE if you already want stand-alone calling, messaging, or data away from the phone and accept activation and service costs.
- Do not buy a premium watch solely for phone finding. Samsung Find and SmartThings Find are primarily software services, and browser-based finding does not require a watch.
For context, Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP file listed the Galaxy Watch8 at $349.99 for 40mm Bluetooth, $399.99 for 40mm LTE, $379.99 for 44mm Bluetooth, and $429.99 for 44mm LTE. It listed the Galaxy Watch8 Classic at $499.99 Bluetooth and $549.99 LTE, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE at $649.99. These are June 2026 MSRP signals, not guaranteed current checkout prices; promotions and availability change.

Bottom line
A Galaxy Watch is an excellent nearby-phone finder: open Samsung Find and tap Ring. Remote recovery can work through Wi-Fi or activated LTE, while Offline finding may provide a later Bluetooth-based location when it was enabled in advance. None of these features guarantees recovery, especially if the phone is powered off, out of service, unregistered, or stolen.
