The Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic use Wear OS Powered by Samsung, so watch faces come primarily from Google Play, not the Galaxy Store. To change the current face, touch and hold the watch’s home screen, swipe through the installed faces, and tap the one you want.
You can also download faces from the Play Store on the watch or through the Galaxy Wearable app on a compatible Android phone.
Before you start
This guide applies to the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic. They use Wear OS, unlike older models such as the Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2, which use Tizen and follow different watch-face instructions.
- The watch must be paired with a compatible Android phone through Galaxy Wearable.
- The Watch4 cannot be initially set up with an iPhone or used as a standalone watch during setup.
- Samsung lists Android 6.0 or later, at least 1.5GB of RAM, and Google Mobile Services among its compatibility requirements. Actual compatibility can vary by region and phone.
- Update the watch, phone, Galaxy Wearable, Google Play Store, and Google Play services before troubleshooting installation problems.
Samsung’s Wear OS models use Google Play for watch faces. The Galaxy Store is not the normal source for Watch4 faces, according to Samsung’s Google services guidance.

Change the watch face from the Galaxy Watch4
- Wake the watch.
- Touch and hold the current watch face.
- Swipe left or right through the installed faces.
- Tap the face you want to apply.
On the Watch4 Classic, the physical rotating bezel can help move through the carousel. Models without a physical bezel use swipes or the touch bezel. This method only shows faces already installed on the watch.

Find the built-in watch faces
The Watch4 includes faces that are already installed. Touch and hold the current face, then swipe through the available designs and tap one to use it. If a Customize button appears, the face supports editing.

Not every built-in or downloaded face can be customized. A missing Customize option usually means that the face has fixed colors, layouts, or information slots.
Download a watch face on the watch
From the face carousel
- Touch and hold the current watch face.
- Swipe to the end of the installed-face carousel.
- Tap Add watch face or, depending on the software version, More watch faces.
- Choose a face from the available Play Store selection.
- Tap Install.
From the Play Store
- Open the Play Store on the watch.
- Open Watch faces or Browse watch faces.
- Select a face to read its description and inspect its screenshots.
- Tap Install.
- Complete account confirmation or payment if it is a paid face.
Labels can differ by software version, region, and storefront layout. Free and paid faces appear together, so the current price shown on the listing is the authoritative one.
Find and install faces with Galaxy Wearable
The phone is generally easier for searching, comparing screenshots, reading descriptions, and completing purchases. Samsung’s app may show one of several layouts.

Route 1: Watch faces
- Open Galaxy Wearable.
- Tap Watch faces.
- Choose a face to preview it.
- Tap Install, or tap Get more watch faces to open additional Google Play listings.
Route 2: Store
- Open Galaxy Wearable.
- Tap Store.
- Search for a face or select the watch-face category.
- Open the listing and tap Install.
Samsung’s current support pages show both routes, so do not worry if your app does not use exactly the same labels as another Watch4 guide.

After installation, return to the watch’s home screen, touch and hold the current face, swipe through the carousel, and tap the new face.
If it is not visible immediately:
- Confirm that installation finished rather than merely starting.
- Scroll through the entire face carousel.
- Check the Play Store’s installed apps or the watch-face list in Galaxy Wearable.
- Keep the watch connected to the phone or Wi-Fi.
- Restart Galaxy Wearable and the watch.
- Check that the listing supports Wear OS and the Watch4.
Some faces install as apps and may also appear as a separate app entry rather than immediately appearing where expected.
Customize a watch face
On the watch
- Touch and hold the current face.
- Select the face you want to edit.
- Tap Customize, if available.
- Swipe between the available editing panels.
- Change the options offered by that face.
- Press the Home/Power key or tap the face to save and apply the result.
Depending on the face, available options may include hand or digital style, background, accent color, indexes, markers, and information slots.
In Galaxy Wearable
- Open Galaxy Wearable.
- Tap Watch faces.
- Select the face.
- Tap Customize.
- Change the available settings and tap Save.
Samsung faces often offer predictable color, hand, background, and widget controls. Third-party faces may use a different editor, expose more or fewer settings, or require a separate companion app.
Use complications for useful information
Wear OS calls the configurable information areas on a face complications. Samsung may refer to similar areas as widgets. Depending on the face and installed apps, they can show steps, battery, weather, calendar events, heart rate, workouts, notifications, timers, alarms, or app shortcuts.

A face must provide complication slots before you can change them. The available data sources depend on the face, installed apps, permissions, and the data provider. More complications can make a face more useful, but may also make it busier and harder to read.
If a complication is blank or unavailable, check its permission:
- Open the watch’s app list.
- Go to Settings → Apps → Permissions.
- Select the relevant watch face.
- Tap Receive complication data.
- Choose Allow or Deny.
Hide or remove a watch face
Hide a face
Hiding removes a face from the selection carousel while leaving it available in the companion app or installed-face list. Use the face-management controls in Wear OS or Galaxy Wearable when you want to reduce clutter without fully uninstalling the face.
Remove or uninstall a downloaded face
- Touch and hold the current face.
- Swipe to the face you want to remove.
- Tap the minus or Remove icon.
- Confirm removal or uninstallation.
You can also uninstall the related downloaded app from the watch or through Galaxy Wearable. On the watch, touch and hold an uninstallable downloaded app and choose Uninstall.
Removing a problematic third-party face is especially important if the watch freezes, crashes, or repeatedly shuts down. Samsung recommends changing or uninstalling the downloaded face and restarting the watch in these situations. See Samsung’s guidance for random shutdowns and freezing or crashing apps.

The face will not install
Possible causes include a weak Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection, insufficient storage, a Play Store account or payment problem, an incompatible face, an outdated app, or a missing phone companion app.

- Inspect the Play Store listing and any notification for the specific error.
- Confirm the watch is connected.
- Update Galaxy Wearable, Play Store, Google Play services, and watch software.
- Check available storage.
- Restart the watch and phone.
- Try a different current face to determine whether the problem affects one listing or all installations.
Do not repeatedly tap Install without checking the listing or error status.

The face installed but does not appear
Return to the face carousel and scroll through all installed faces. Then reopen Galaxy Wearable, check the installed-app list, and restart both devices. If you own multiple watches, confirm that Galaxy Wearable is managing the correct watch.
A previously owned face is unavailable
Older faces may no longer be transferable or available because of updated Wear OS requirements or Play Store policy changes. Google recommends checking compatibility rather than assuming that every face bought for another watch will transfer.
- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi or the phone.
- Update the watch, Play Store, and Galaxy Wearable.
- Search from the Play Store on the watch as well as from the phone.
- Confirm that the listing explicitly supports Wear OS and the Watch4.
- Restart both devices.
- If the face remains unavailable, choose a currently compatible alternative.
Do not treat unofficial APK downloads or sideloading as a routine fix for a face removed from the Play Store. See Google’s guidance on watch-face availability and compatibility.
The watch freezes or keeps restarting
- Switch to a preinstalled Samsung face if the watch remains usable.
- Remove the suspect downloaded face.
- Restart the watch.
- If it cannot remain usable long enough to change faces, uninstall the related app through Galaxy Wearable.
- Contact Samsung support if the problem continues after removal.
Which source should you use?

Simple static faces are often easier to read and may be less demanding than bright, animated designs with frequently updating complications. However, battery impact varies with the face, always-on-display settings, brightness, and update behavior, so there is no universal battery penalty.

Galaxy Watch4 watch-face checklist
- Pair the Watch4 with a compatible Android phone.
- Use Google Play rather than looking for Watch4 faces in the Galaxy Store.
- Install from the watch or through Galaxy Wearable.
- Select the new face from the carousel after installation.
- Use Customize only when that option is offered.
- Check complication permissions if information is missing.
- Hide faces to reduce clutter or uninstall them when they are unwanted or unstable.
- Prefer current compatible listings over unofficial downloads.
