On current Galaxy Watches, transfer photos from the Android phone paired with your watch: open Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Manage content → Add images, select the pictures, and tap Done. Open the watch’s Gallery app to view them. If you want a photo on the watch face instead, choose a face that supports personal photos; that is a separate step.
Menu names and photo features vary by watch generation, region, and software. These instructions cover current Wear OS models as well as the different labels you may see on older Tizen-based Galaxy Watches.
What “put photos on your watch” can mean
- Copy photos to the watch: They appear in the watch’s Gallery, where you can browse them.
- Sync albums: Selected phone albums are copied or updated on the watch automatically when supported and enabled.
- Use a photo as a watch face: A compatible face displays a photo as its background. This does not necessarily add the picture to the Gallery, so copying it to the watch first is the safest approach.
Before you start
- Use the Android phone paired with your watch and install or update Galaxy Wearable. Confirm the watch appears in the app.
- Turn on Bluetooth and keep the phone and watch nearby. A stable connection and adequate battery on both devices help the transfer finish.
- Make sure the pictures are stored locally on the phone, or are accessible to its photo picker. If Android asks, allow Galaxy Wearable to access the photos you want to select.
- Samsung says the described transfer cannot be done from a tablet. Galaxy Watch4 and newer Wear OS Galaxy Watches require Android for setup and are not compatible with iPhone. See Samsung’s Galaxy Watch compatibility guidance and Google’s Wear OS setup instructions.
Galaxy Watch4 and newer—including Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch8, and Galaxy Watch Ultra generations—use Wear OS. Older Galaxy Watch, Watch Active, Active2, and Watch3 models use Tizen and can have different app menus and capabilities. Availability also varies with model, phone, region, and software version.

Manually copy photos to a current Galaxy Watch
- On the paired phone, open Galaxy Wearable.
- Tap Watch settings, then Manage content.
- Tap Add images, select one or more pictures, and tap Done.
- Wait for the transfer to complete. On the watch, open the apps screen and launch Gallery, then tap an image to view it.
This is the path in Samsung’s current US transfer instructions. Depending on the watch and software, you may instead see Settings → Add content to your watch → Copy images, or Watch settings → Manage content → Images on watch. These are alternate labels for related controls, not necessarily a sign that the feature is missing. Samsung also describes photo browsing and navigation in its Galaxy Watch Gallery guide; navigation and zoom controls differ by model.

Automatically sync selected albums
Automatic sync can save repeated selections, but it can also copy more images than intended. Start with a small album and check the image limit before enabling it.
- In Galaxy Wearable, go to Watch settings → Manage content.
- Turn on Auto sync albums.
- Open Albums to sync and select only the albums you want on the watch.
- If available, set Auto sync image limit. Some software also offers Select story to sync or Auto sync latest story.
- Give the phone and watch time to connect and synchronize.
Auto-sync controls are not identical across models. Some Samsung regional instructions and manuals say automatic image synchronization takes place when the watch battery is above about 15%; treat that as model- and software-dependent rather than a universal threshold. If sync does not start, charge the watch and try again. See Samsung’s regional import and export instructions.
Selected albums use watch storage, and syncing many images can take longer. Consider privacy, too: photos in an album you select may be copied to the watch. For a few specific pictures, manual transfer gives you more control.

Set a photo as the watch face
Only compatible watch faces offer a personal-photo background. Look for My Photo+, Photos, or a face with a Gallery or Background customization option. Samsung’s watch-face guidance explains that the available customization depends on the face.
From Galaxy Wearable on the phone
- Open Galaxy Wearable and tap Watch faces.
- Choose My Photo+, Photos, or another photo-compatible face, then tap Customize.
- Choose Gallery or Background → Gallery if that control appears, and select the image.
- Crop, reposition, or zoom the photo. Adjust the clock style, color, and complications if offered, then tap Save or Done.
Some workflows require the image to be stored on the watch before it can be selected as a background. If the picker does not show the picture, first transfer it using Manage content → Add images. The exact picker behavior depends on the face and software; Samsung describes this stored-image requirement in its photo watch-face instructions.
From the watch
- Touch and hold the current watch face, then swipe to My Photo+ or another photo-capable face.
- Tap Customize and choose the background, Add photo, or equivalent control.
- Select a picture, adjust its crop or position, set any available clock and color options, and apply or save the face.
Controls differ by face and generation. Samsung’s My Photo+ instructions describe versions that can rotate through up to 20 photos. That is not a universal limit for every current photo face. A photo can also look different when cropped to fit a small round display; reposition it in the face editor if the subject is cut off.

Older Tizen Galaxy Watches
On older Galaxy Watch, Watch Active, Active2, or Watch3 models, try Galaxy Wearable → Settings → Add content to your watch → Copy images. The watch-face option may be under Watch faces → My Photo+; on the watch, touch and hold the face, choose My Photo+, then select Add photo. Older devices may not offer the same Gallery, album sync, or face options as current Wear OS models. If the labels differ, check the instructions for the exact model rather than assuming the current menu is available. Samsung provides an older-model import/export guide.
Send a photo from the watch back to the phone
Where supported, open Gallery on the watch and touch and hold an image. Select additional pictures if needed, tap the three-dot menu or More options, then choose Send to phone. The control is not available on every model or software version.

“Manage content” or “Add images” is missing
- Check that the correct watch is selected and shown as connected in Galaxy Wearable.
- Update Galaxy Wearable and the watch software, then reopen the app.
- Look for alternate labels such as Add content to your watch, Copy images, or Images on watch.
- Restart both devices and confirm the companion plug-in has finished installing. If you consider unpairing and pairing again, back up relevant watch data first.
The photos do not appear on the watch
Confirm the transfer completed, the watch has free storage, and the pictures are accessible locally on the phone. For auto-sync, check that the intended album is selected and that the watch has enough battery. If a file will not transfer, try saving a standard copy in the phone’s Gallery or taking a screenshot, then transfer that copy. This is a workaround, not a guarantee about supported formats.

The photo picker is empty
The image may exist only in cloud storage, Galaxy Wearable may not have access to it, or the selected album may not be included in sync. Open the image in the phone’s Gallery and download or save a local copy; check Android’s photo permissions and try Add images again. If the file still will not appear, export it as a conventional JPEG or PNG in a trusted phone editor. Supported formats can vary, so check the manual for your exact model rather than assuming one format list applies to every watch.
Album sync looks stuck
- Keep the phone and watch nearby with Bluetooth on.
- Charge the watch or raise its battery level.
- Turn Auto sync albums off and back on; reduce the selected album or image limit.
- Try transferring one small image manually and check watch storage.
- Restart Galaxy Wearable and both devices.
The watch face has no photo option
That face may not support personal images. Choose a face that explicitly offers My Photo+, Photos, Gallery, or a photo background. Third-party faces can have different controls, and not all current faces include a Gallery picker.

Use the face’s crop and reposition controls to keep the subject in view. If the watch is low on storage, remove unwanted images from the watch or reduce the synced album and image limit; avoid selecting a large album unless you want those images copied to the watch. Removing a watch copy is distinct from deleting the original from the phone—check the confirmation prompt and selected device before deleting.
You have an iPhone or tablet, not the paired Android phone
Samsung’s current Wear OS Galaxy Watches cannot be set up with iPhone, and Samsung says a tablet cannot transfer images using the described method. Use the compatible Android phone paired with the watch. Non-Samsung Android phones can work for setup, but permissions and Gallery behavior may differ from Samsung phones.
