To factory-reset a working Pixel Watch 2, swipe down from the watch face, tap Settings > Disconnect & reset, then tap OK. If the watch cannot be operated, use the Google Pixel Watch app or the Fastboot recovery method below. A factory reset erases apps, settings, and data stored on the watch; a restart does not.
Before you reset
Choose the least destructive option that fits the problem:
- Frozen or temporarily unresponsive: Try a restart first. It normally preserves your data.
- Forgotten PIN, persistent pairing trouble, or preparing to hand the watch to someone else: A factory reset may be appropriate.
- Moving to a new phone: If the watch is running supported software, check Google’s watch-transfer instructions first. Transfer is intended to avoid a reset and loss of settings; Google specifies Wear OS 4 for this process.
A factory reset removes apps, settings, and data stored on the watch, disconnects it from the phone, and returns it to setup. This does not establish that data in your online Google or Fitbit accounts is deleted. After the wipe, setup may still require the most recent watch PIN or the Google Account previously associated with the watch. Have those credentials available; a reset is not a way to bypass ownership protection.
Pixel Watch 2 pairs with compatible Android phones, not iPhones. If the watch is unresponsive or its reset controls are unavailable, check that it is charging: use the Pixel Watch 2 charging cable and align the watch’s contacts with its pins. Allow extra time if it has been without charge for a while. The watch has no physical reset button—do not insert a paper clip or other object into the microphone opening or charging contacts. See Google’s charging guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- The Pixel Watch 2 comes with three new advanced sensors for heart rate tracking, skin temperature, and stress management[1,2]; 100% recycled light aluminum housing makes it comfortable to wear[3]
- The all-new heart rate sensor and Google AI combine for Fitbit’s most spot-on heart rate tracking yet[4], so you can get more precise health and fitness info[5]
- Go even longer with the enhanced 24-hour battery and always-on display[6,7]; charge for 75 minutes to get a full day of battery life[8]
- Identify potential signs of stress with Fitbit’s body-response feature, so you can manage it in the moment[5]; and track variations in your skin temperature, blood oxygen levels, and sleep to help you spot possible changes[5,9,10]
- Get help with Emergency SOS and Fall Detection if you’re feeling unsafe or if you’ve had a hard fall[11,12]; and Safety Check alerts your close contacts if you don’t respond to a set check-in timer[13]
Reset from the watch
- Keep the watch powered on and sufficiently charged.
- From the watch face, swipe down and tap Settings.
- Tap Disconnect & reset. Depending on the software version or menu wording, you may find it under System.
- Tap OK to confirm.
- Wait for the erase and reboot to finish, then set up the watch again.
This is the most direct method when the screen and Settings menu work. The menu label may vary slightly; look for Disconnect & reset.
Reset from the Android phone
Use this route if the watch still communicates with the phone but you would rather start the reset in the app:
- Keep the phone and watch near each other.
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app.
- Tap System, then Reset and unpair watch.
- Confirm if prompted and wait for the watch to restart.
- Follow the app’s setup instructions to pair it again.
This erases the watch too; it is not merely a Bluetooth disconnect. Google’s full reset and pairing guidance covers both normal reset routes.

Restart a frozen Pixel Watch 2
Try these restart options before using recovery. Neither is the factory-reset wipe:
- Normal restart: Hold the crown for about three seconds, then tap Restart.
- Forced restart: If the screen does not respond, hold the crown and side button together for about 35 seconds, or until the Google “G” logo appears. It can take longer.
A forced restart is sometimes called a “hard reset,” but here it means forcing the watch to restart—not erasing it. Google’s unresponsive-screen guidance distinguishes restart steps from factory reset.
Factory-reset with Fastboot and Recovery Mode
Use this advanced fallback only if the watch or phone app cannot complete a normal reset. The procedure wipes the watch. Follow the sequence carefully: the two-corner tap is made when the “G” logo appears, not as a general touchscreen gesture.

- If the watch is off, press the crown for a few seconds to turn it on.
- Hold the crown and side button together for about 20 seconds.
- When the “G” logo appears, tap the upper-left and lower-right edges of the screen simultaneously to enter Fastboot.
- Press the side button to move through the menu until Recovery Mode is highlighted; press the crown to select it.
- When No Command appears, hold the crown and swipe up at the same time to open the recovery menu.
- Swipe down to Wipe Data or Factory Reset, then swipe right to confirm.
- When the wipe finishes, highlight Reboot system now and swipe right or press the crown to reboot.
If a screen or button does not respond as expected, do not assume the watch has been erased. Restart from the beginning only if you can safely navigate the menu; otherwise contact Google Pixel Watch support.

If the reset or pairing still fails
If the watch has been reset but the phone cannot pair it, Google recommends clearing the phone-side pairing state:
- Uninstall the Google Pixel Watch app from the phone.
- On the phone, open Settings > Connected devices and forget any listed Pixel Watch devices. The exact Android wording may vary.
- Restart the phone.
- Reinstall or reopen the Pixel Watch app, keep the phone and watch close, and try setup again when the watch shows its setup screen.
Uninstalling the app is troubleshooting for pairing; it does not itself factory-reset the watch. For Fast Pair, keep the devices within about 0.5 m (1.6 ft). If the watch remains stuck after the recovery wipe, or cannot charge or boot, contact Google support. A reset may help with software or pairing problems, but cannot repair physical damage, a failed battery, charging contacts, or a broken display.

Set up the watch after resetting
- Open or install the Google Pixel Watch app on a compatible Android phone.
- Turn on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location if setup requests them, and keep the phone close to the watch.
- Pair the watch and sign in with the required Google Account. If asked, provide the most recent PIN or the account previously associated with the watch.
- Install available watch and app updates. Restore a backup if setup offers one.
- Reinstall apps and configure watch faces, tiles, notifications, health settings, and Assistant features again as needed.
If you bought the watch secondhand and setup asks for credentials belonging to someone else, contact the seller to resolve the ownership or account issue. Do not try to work around the protection by repeating the reset.
Reset before selling, trading in, or giving away
Back up what you can and make sure you can complete setup credentials if needed. For an LTE Pixel Watch 2, erase the eSIM as part of the handoff:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Charge and power on the watch.
- Open Settings > System > Disconnect & reset.
- Tap Erase eSIM, then Confirm.
- Wait for the reset to finish. If the watch still appears in the Pixel Watch app, remove it there as well.
Google’s handoff instructions cover preparing a watch for transfer. Erasing the eSIM does not necessarily cancel a cellular subscription; check any separate carrier requirements. Do not hand over a watch that remains paired to your phone, and never give the buyer your Google Account credentials. If the watch is inaccessible, use Fastboot to wipe it, then ensure any ownership issue is resolved before transfer.
