Your Samsung Galaxy Watch may appear to “answer” calls for three different reasons: a gesture accepted the call, call audio moved to the watch after you answered on the phone, or an LTE watch received a forwarded call. The fix depends on which behavior you are seeing.
Start with the section that matches your problem rather than turning off Bluetooth entirely.
First, identify what is happening
- The call is accepted before you deliberately tap or swipe: check watch gestures and the phone’s automatic-answer setting.
- You answer on the phone, but hear the caller through the watch: disable the watch’s Bluetooth Calls profile or its phone-call audio setting.
- The watch rings after the phone stops ringing: an LTE watch may be using call forwarding.
- The watch only wakes or displays the call: it may not have answered anything; check the active call destination on the phone.
Galaxy Watches can handle calls through a connected phone, Bluetooth, or—on compatible LTE models—cellular service. Menu names differ by watch generation, phone model, One UI version, and carrier. Samsung’s overview is available in its official Galaxy Watch calling guide.
If your watch answers because of a wrist gesture
Supported recent models, including Galaxy Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, and Watch Ultra configurations, can use Double pinch to answer calls. Disable it on the watch:

- Open Settings.
- Tap Buttons and gestures.
- Tap Gestures.
- Turn off Double pinch.
You can usually reach the same controls in Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Buttons and gestures. If wrist movement is also dismissing or declining calls, consider disabling Shake to dismiss. Samsung documents these controls for supported watches in its gesture and call-control guide.
This only disables gesture shortcuts. A normal deliberate tap or swipe can still answer an incoming call.
Check the phone’s automatic-answer setting
On a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, open:
- Phone app
- More options (three dots)
- Settings
- Answering and ending calls
- Turn off Answer automatically
The exact location and wording vary by One UI version. On another Android phone, search Settings for auto answer, answering and ending calls, or Bluetooth call settings. This setting can affect other Bluetooth headsets as well as the watch, so test a call afterward. Samsung describes related phone controls in its Interaction and dexterity support documentation.

This is not necessarily automatic answering. The phone may have accepted the call normally while routing the microphone and speaker to the Galaxy Watch.

Turn off the watch’s Bluetooth Calls profile
- Open phone Settings.
- Tap Connections, then Bluetooth.
- Find the Galaxy Watch and tap its gear or settings icon.
- Turn off Calls.
This is more targeted than switching off Bluetooth completely. It normally stops the watch from acting as a Bluetooth call device, but you may no longer be able to answer and speak through the watch.
Turn off call audio on the watch
On compatible Wear OS models, try:
- Open watch Settings.
- Tap Connectivity, then Bluetooth.
- Open the phone connection.
- Turn off Play phone voice call on watch, or the equivalent call-audio option.
Google identifies this as the setting that lets a compatible watch act as the phone’s speakerphone in its Wear OS calling instructions.
How to keep call alerts without watch call control
Disabling the Bluetooth Calls profile may leave general watch notifications working, but incoming-call behavior is not identical on every phone, watch, and software version. Do not assume alerts will remain unchanged.

- Whether the watch still vibrates or displays an incoming-call alert.
- Whether answering on the phone uses the phone’s handset, speaker, or connected earbuds.
- Whether the watch still offers unwanted call controls.
If call alerts disappear or become unacceptable, restore Calls and instead disable Double pinch, turn off automatic answering, and manually select the phone as the audio destination when needed.
If an active call is already using the watch
On the phone’s in-call screen, tap the audio output, Bluetooth, or speaker button. Select Phone, Handset, or the phone’s speaker instead of the Galaxy Watch.
This is the best compromise if you sometimes want to answer from the watch but do not want it to be the default audio destination.
If an LTE watch rings after the phone stops
An LTE Galaxy Watch can receive calls through cellular service. If it rings only after an unanswered phone call, call forwarding may be involved.

On the watch, try:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Connectivity.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile.
- Tap Call forwarding.
- Choose Turn off.
Carrier support differs, so some watches may show different labels or forwarding options. Disabling Bluetooth Calls does not necessarily disable independent cellular calling on an LTE watch. Google’s Wear OS cellular-calling guide covers forwarding and carrier limitations.

If you want the fewest possible ways for the watch to handle calls:
- Turn off Double pinch and other call-related gestures.
- Turn off the phone’s Answer automatically option, if available.
- Turn off Calls for the watch in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- On an LTE watch, turn off Call forwarding if you do not want forwarded calls.
- Place a test call and confirm the phone remains the audio destination.
Do not turn off Bluetooth as the first step. A full Bluetooth disconnect can stop notifications, health synchronization, music controls, and other watch features.

- Check other Bluetooth devices: Galaxy Buds, car audio, headsets, tablets, and computers may be the actual call destination.
- Restart both devices: restart the phone and watch before changing pairing.
- Update software: install available phone, Galaxy Wearable, and watch updates.
- Test different callers: if the behavior occurs with only one caller, the issue may involve that caller’s device or calling service.
- Test without wearing the watch: if the issue stops, accidental gestures or screen touches become more likely.
- Reduce accidental touches: use a water-lock or screen-lock mode where appropriate, but treat it as a mitigation rather than a guaranteed call fix.
Re-pairing or resetting the watch should be a last resort. LTE models may require carrier activation or eSIM setup again, so record relevant cellular details first.

Model and connection differences
Galaxy Watch4 and newer models generally use Wear OS, while older Galaxy Watches may use Tizen and have different menus or controls. Wear OS instructions should not be treated as universal for older models. Samsung’s watch-navigation guide explains that controls vary by model.
Bluetooth watches depend on the connected phone for calling. LTE watches may call independently when compatible mobile service is active. Compatibility also depends on the phone and carrier; Samsung outlines setup requirements in its Wear OS Galaxy Watch guide.
Final test
After changing settings, call the phone from another number and verify that:
Quick Recap
- The watch does not answer from an accidental wrist movement.
- The phone remains the intended microphone and speaker.
- Call alerts behave the way you want.
- LTE forwarding is off if you do not want out-of-range or delayed calls.
- Watch calling still works if you deliberately chose to keep that feature.
