You can get workouts from a compatible Samsung Galaxy Watch into Strava in two ways: record with Strava’s app on the watch, or record with Samsung Health and connect Samsung Health to Strava. The first is the direct choice for Strava-focused recording; the second suits people who want Samsung Health to remain their main workout log.
Check the watch’s operating system first. Strava’s current Wear OS app requires Wear OS 3.0 or newer. Older Tizen watches lost Strava support for recording and new activity syncing on November 1, 2025. Strava’s Wear OS guide and Tizen support notice explain the platform limits.
Check compatibility before you set it up
- Watch: The Strava watch app supports Wear OS 3.0 and newer. Galaxy Watch4 and later models use Wear OS, but check the operating system and software on your specific watch rather than assuming every model or feature behaves identically.
- Phone: Use an Android phone and pair the watch through the Galaxy Wearable app. Samsung says Wear OS Galaxy Watches are not compatible with iPhones; Strava likewise says Samsung watches cannot be used with iPhones. See Samsung’s compatibility guidance.
- Apps and connection: Have a Strava account, the Strava Android app, Galaxy Wearable, and an internet connection available for setup and uploads. Grant location and activity or sensor permissions when prompted.
- Bluetooth or LTE: A Bluetooth-only watch may need the paired phone nearby for connectivity-dependent functions. Recording a workout is not the same as uploading it immediately. Strava specifically says Wear OS 3+ watches without LTE need a phone connection to send a Beacon message when an activity starts.
- Tizen: Do not follow Wear OS installation steps for an older Tizen Galaxy Watch. Strava ended Tizen smartwatch support on November 1, 2025; historical Strava account data remains available, but the watch cannot record or sync new activities to Strava.
Samsung’s pairing instructions cover connecting a compatible watch to an Android phone through Galaxy Wearable. Strava’s Wear OS requirements cover its watch app.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

| Your preference | Use this method | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| You want to record directly in Strava | Strava on the watch | It avoids relying on Samsung Health’s GPS-only automatic transfer. |
| You want Samsung Health to be your main exercise and health log | Samsung Health connected to Strava | GPS-based Samsung Health workouts can transfer automatically; non-GPS workouts do not automatically arrive as full Strava activities. |
| You record strength or indoor sessions without GPS | Consider recording in Strava directly | Strava supports a range of activity types on Wear OS, but the available data depends on the activity, watch, sensors, and permissions. |
| You have a Tizen watch or an iPhone | Neither current Galaxy Watch route | Use the Strava phone app or another supported device instead. |
Use one workout recorder per session. Starting Strava and Samsung Health (or another exercise app) together can cause interference: Wear OS supports only one active exercise-tracking session at a time, and starting one app may end the other’s tracking. Recording the same workout twice can also create duplicate activities.

Method 1: Record with Strava on a Wear OS Galaxy Watch
- Pair the watch with your Android phone in Galaxy Wearable.
- Open the Play Store on the watch, or use the phone’s Play Store if it offers installation on the watch. Search for Strava and install the watch app. Confirm it is installed on the watch, not just the phone.
- Open Strava on the phone and sign in. Strava may carry the sign-in to the watch; if not, start Strava on the watch and follow the authorization prompt on the phone.
- Allow the location, activity, and sensor permissions the apps request. For an outdoor GPS workout, wait outside for the watch to acquire GPS before starting.
- Choose an activity on the watch, such as Run, Ride, Walk, Hike, or Swim, then start recording.
- When you finish, stop and save the activity. Open Strava on the phone to check that the saved workout has uploaded. Upload timing depends on the watch’s connection and app state.
Strava documents time, distance, and heart-rate support on Wear OS and lists a range of activity types, including running, cycling, hiking, walking, outdoor swimming, indoor workouts, rowing, tennis, strength training, and yoga. That does not mean every activity records the same fields: route, heart rate, elevation, cadence, power, and other data can vary with watch model, sensors, permissions, and activity type. Consult Strava’s Wear OS instructions for current details.
Method 2: Connect Samsung Health to Strava
- On the Android phone, open Samsung Health.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, then tap Settings.
- Scroll to Services and select or enable Strava.
- Sign in to Strava if prompted and accept the requested account permissions.
- Record a GPS-based workout with Samsung Health on the watch or phone. Let Samsung Health finish uploading it, then check Strava for the activity.
This is the current path in Strava’s Samsung Health instructions. Labels can vary by Samsung Health version, language, and region.

Automatic transfer is limited to GPS-based workouts. A stationary strength session or another workout without GPS may stay in Samsung Health. Samsung Health may let you share a statistics image to Strava, but an image is not a structured Strava activity with the same workout data. The connection also works in the other direction for some information: Strava says it can send fields such as route, activity type, distance, time, and calories to Samsung Health. Do not assume that all activities or data sync fully in both directions.

- Choose either Strava or Samsung Health to record each workout.
- If you use Samsung Health to record and transfer a GPS workout, do not also start Strava recording for that same session.
- Check for other connected services that may forward the same activity to Strava, and disable unnecessary bridges if duplicates recur.
- If one recording app stops when another starts, close the second app and record the next workout with just one tracker.
Strava warns that simultaneous workout apps can interfere on Wear OS. A consistent “one recorder per workout” habit is the simplest prevention.

Troubleshooting
Strava does not appear on the watch
- Confirm that the watch runs Wear OS 3.0 or newer. Tizen watches are no longer supported by Strava.
- Check that the watch is paired with the intended Android phone and Google account.
- Open the Play Store on the watch, connect it to the internet, and verify that Strava is installed on the watch itself.
- Update Strava, Galaxy Wearable, and Google Play services, then restart both phone and watch and try again.
Do not try to install an old Tizen Strava app as a workaround; support ended on November 1, 2025. See Strava’s Tizen notice.
Sign-in or authorization will not complete
First confirm Strava works on the phone and that the phone has internet access. Sign out and back in to the phone app, open Strava on the watch, and retry authorization; the watch may ask you to complete sign-in on the phone. Check the Galaxy Wearable pairing, update the apps, and restart both devices. If that does not help, uninstall and reinstall the watch app, then authorize it again. Strava describes phone-assisted authorization in its Wear OS setup guide.

A Samsung Health workout is missing from Strava
- Make sure Strava is connected under Samsung Health > Settings > Services.
- Confirm that the workout includes GPS data; non-GPS workouts do not automatically sync as full activities.
- Allow Samsung Health to finish uploading and make sure the phone is online.
- Check that you connected the Strava account you are viewing.
- Confirm you did not record the same workout with another active app and mistake a conflict or duplicate for a failed transfer.
If Samsung Health offers only a shareable image for the workout, that does not create a complete structured Strava activity. See Strava’s Samsung Health guidance.
The workout is saved but has not uploaded
Separate recording from uploading: a watch can capture an activity while disconnected, but sending it to Strava requires a working connection and may wait until the watch or phone is online. Reconnect the watch and phone, open the apps, and check again. Do not assume every Bluetooth-only model can upload immediately without the phone. Beacon is a separate feature: on Wear OS 3+ without LTE, Strava requires a phone connection to send the start message.

GPS or heart-rate data is missing
For an outdoor workout, start with a clear view of the sky and wait for GPS acquisition before pressing Start. Check location permission, wear the watch snugly for a stable heart-rate reading, and avoid running two workout apps at once. Data varies by watch, activity, sensor, and permission; compare results only after confirming which app recorded the session.
You see two copies of a workout
The usual causes are recording in both Strava and Samsung Health, or a second connected service forwarding the same activity. Keep one recorder for the session and disable unnecessary forwarding connections. If a duplicate is already in Strava, review the activity there and remove the extra copy if desired.
Do you need a Strava subscription?
No subscription is generally needed for basic workout recording and syncing. Paid features include additional analysis and route tools; Strava’s subscription page describes its current plans and features. One watch-specific exception is Beacon, which Strava makes available on its Wear OS app to subscribers. Configure safety contacts in the mobile app first. A Wear OS 3+ watch without LTE also needs a phone connection to send the Beacon message when an activity starts. Check Strava’s Wear OS guide for conditions.

If your Galaxy Watch runs Tizen, you can still use your Strava account and existing activities, but the watch can no longer record new Strava workouts or sync new activities after November 1, 2025. Practical alternatives are to record with the Strava phone app, use another supported GPS wearable, or export a compatible GPX, TCX, or FIT file from another service and upload it using Strava’s activity upload options. Consider upgrading only if you need supported watch recording, LTE, or newer hardware; buying a new watch solely to transfer occasional workouts may not be necessary.
