You can move a Galaxy Watch to a new Android phone through the watch’s Settings → General → Transfer watch to new phone option, then finish setup in Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable app. Back up the watch and sync Samsung Health first: depending on the watch model and software, the transfer may reset the watch and erase data. Keep the old phone until you have checked the restored data and tested key features.
Before you start
Galaxy Watch transfers are managed through Galaxy Wearable, not by pairing the watch as an ordinary Bluetooth accessory. The standard route is from one Android phone to another. Galaxy Watch4 and newer Wear OS models, including Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch Ultra and Watch FE, are not compatible with iPhones. Android compatibility depends on the watch, phone, region, carrier and software; Samsung also notes that some functions work only with Samsung phones. Check Samsung’s phone compatibility and feature information for your model.
- Keep the watch charged and near the new phone. Turn on Bluetooth on the phone.
- Install or update Galaxy Wearable on the new phone. Sign in with the same Samsung account used on the old phone.
- Where possible, update Galaxy Wearable, the watch and Samsung Health before transferring.
- If the old phone still works, sync Samsung Health and make a watch backup before you begin.
- If the watch has LTE, have your carrier account or activation details ready. Moving the watch does not guarantee that its cellular service will move automatically.
Do not erase, trade in or factory-reset the old phone yet. Samsung warns that connecting a watch to a new phone may reset it, depending on the model and software version. The guided process can help restore backed-up items, but it is not a guaranteed, exact clone of the old setup. See Samsung’s transfer instructions.
Back up the watch on the old phone
While the watch is still connected to the old phone, open Galaxy Wearable and follow this path:

- Tap Watch settings.
- Tap Account and backup.
- Choose Backup settings or Back up data. The wording varies by software version.
- Select the categories you want, tap Back up, and wait for the backup to finish.
Samsung lists supported backup items such as preinstalled-app data and settings, the installed-app list, watch-face settings and system settings for display, input, sound and vibration. The categories offered for backup or restore vary by watch and software. Locally stored music on the watch is not included. Samsung’s backup and restore guide explains the supported data and limitations.
If the old phone is unavailable, you may still be able to restore a Samsung-account backup that already exists. Check that the backup is available before resetting the watch; any data created since its last successful backup or sync may be missing. Samsung says Wear OS Galaxy Watches must be backed up from the paired phone using Galaxy Wearable.
Sync Samsung Health separately
Do this before disconnecting the old phone if you can. Samsung Health history is associated with your Samsung Health profile and account; don’t assume that a watch backup alone confirms your history is safely synced.

- Open Samsung Health on the old phone.
- Tap More options (the three-dot menu), then Settings.
- Turn on Sync with Samsung Cloud and choose whether syncing can use mobile data or Wi-Fi only.
- Tap Sync now and allow it to finish.
On the new phone, use the same Samsung account and check Samsung Health for past workouts and health records after setup. Samsung’s Samsung Health sync instructions describe syncing across devices.
Transfer the watch to the new phone
- On the watch, open Settings → General → Transfer watch to new phone.
- Confirm the transfer on the watch when prompted.
- On the new phone, open Galaxy Wearable and tap Start.
- Select your Galaxy Watch. Compare the pairing number shown on the phone with the number on the watch; if they match, tap Confirm.
- Accept the required agreements and tap Continue, then wait for setup to complete.
- If Select item to restore appears, choose the available backup and the categories you want to restore.
When setup finishes, confirm Galaxy Wearable shows the watch as connected. Follow any on-screen carrier prompts if the watch is an LTE model. The precise screens and menu wording can differ by model, carrier and software version.
If the watch says “Connect to a new phone”
Some models or software versions use Settings → General → Connect to a new phone instead of “Transfer watch to new phone.” Follow the watch’s on-screen instructions. The process may offer a backup and may reset the watch before it can be registered to the new phone. Don’t choose a reset or continue past a data-erasure warning until you have checked that the backup is complete or decided you can proceed without it. Samsung describes this alternate wording in its Galaxy Watch connection guide.

What returns—and what may need attention
The restore screen may offer items such as apps, phone-related data, Quick panel, Samsung Health, settings, watch face, tiles, widgets and messages. Not every watch presents every category, and restoration does not guarantee that every app or setting will behave exactly as it did before.
- Apps: The installed-app list or supported app data may restore, but third-party apps can require reinstalling or signing in again.
- Watch faces and layout: Supported face settings, tiles, widgets and system preferences may be offered. Check them rather than assuming the layout is identical.
- Samsung Health: Confirm historical data appears in Samsung Health on the new phone; sync it separately as described above.
- Music: Music stored locally on the watch is not included in the backup. Transfer songs from the phone to the watch again if needed; available transfer features can vary by phone and watch.
- Older Tizen watches: Some data may not transfer when moving from a Tizen watch to a Wear OS watch.
- Payments and accounts: You may need to set up Samsung Wallet or other payment cards again, and sign in to services.
- LTE: Treat cellular activation as a separate step. Follow the carrier’s process and test service before cancelling the old watch line.
Moving from Samsung to another Android phone
A non-Samsung Android phone can work with a Galaxy Watch if it meets that model’s requirements, but connection does not guarantee feature parity. Samsung identifies some features—including Samsung Health Monitor functions such as ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications and sleep-apnea features, and Camera Controller—as Samsung-phone-only. Other differences can affect Samsung Find, reminders, and some calendar, alarm, timer, gesture, mode-sync or music-transfer functions. Availability also varies by region, model and service. Check Samsung’s compatibility details for the exact watch and phone rather than treating every missing feature as a failed transfer. Google Find Hub is available across Samsung and other Android phones, according to Samsung’s comparison.
Verify the transfer before wiping the old phone
- Galaxy Wearable reports the watch as connected.
- Samsung Health shows historical workouts and health data.
- Your important watch faces, tiles, widgets and settings are present.
- Important apps are installed and signed in.
- Notifications, calls, messages and contacts work as expected.
- Payment cards have been configured again if required.
- LTE service works, if applicable; music stored locally has been transferred again if wanted.
- Watch and phone software updates have been checked.
Keep the old phone—and its backup—available until these checks are complete. If any data is missing, avoid repeatedly resetting the watch: first verify the Samsung account, backup and sync status.

Troubleshooting transfer problems
The new phone cannot find the watch
- Check that Bluetooth is on and keep the devices close together.
- Start setup from Galaxy Wearable → Start, not only from Android’s Bluetooth settings.
- Restart both devices and temporarily turn off Airplane mode, Power saving and Watch-only mode.
- Check for Galaxy Wearable and watch software updates, then try again.
- If the watch is still tied to the old phone, use Settings → General → Transfer watch to new phone on the watch.
Samsung’s connection and sync troubleshooting guide recommends checking connection states and software. The watch needs to be connected through Galaxy Wearable for watch-data transfer and Samsung Health synchronization.
The pairing numbers do not match
Cancel that attempt rather than confirming. Make sure Galaxy Wearable is pairing with the watch beside you, then start setup again and compare the numbers displayed on both devices.
Samsung Health history is missing
- Check that Samsung Health on the new phone is signed in to the same Samsung account.
- In Samsung Health, open More options → Settings, enable Sync with Samsung Cloud and tap Sync now.
- Confirm the watch is connected in Galaxy Wearable, not merely listed as a Bluetooth device.
- Turn off Airplane mode, Power saving and Watch-only mode; update the relevant apps and watch software, then restart both devices.
- Do not reinstall Samsung Health or reset the watch until you have confirmed account sync and any available backup.
The watch still shows the old phone
Use the watch’s transfer option rather than repeatedly trying Bluetooth pairing. If it is unavailable, look for Connect to a new phone. Reset only after checking the backup and following the watch’s prompts.

LTE does not work after pairing
Phone-watch setup and cellular activation are separate. Complete the carrier’s activation steps, check that the correct watch line or plan is active, and test service before cancelling the old line. A Wi-Fi/Bluetooth model does not need cellular activation.
The watch connects but a feature is missing
Check whether the new phone is non-Samsung and whether Samsung restricts that feature to Galaxy phones. A successful transfer cannot add phone-dependent features that the new device or region does not support.
