Set up Samsung Cycle Tracking in the Samsung Health app on a compatible Android phone. You can log periods, view estimated cycle dates and record symptoms without a watch; overnight skin-temperature-assisted predictions require a Galaxy Watch5 series or newer (or a compatible Galaxy Ring), and availability varies by model, software and region.

What Samsung Cycle Tracking does

Samsung Health lets you record period start and end dates, then uses your cycle history to estimate your next period, fertile window and ovulation date. You can also record symptoms, moods, physical condition and notes, review cycle history, and edit cycle or period length. These are estimates based on the information you enter; the feature does not directly detect menstruation or confirm ovulation.

There are two distinct prediction modes: calendar-based estimates from recorded cycle history, and estimates that also use overnight skin-temperature data when enabled on a supported device. Neither mode diagnoses a condition or confirms pregnancy.

Which devices support which features?

Capability Compatible Android phone, no watch Older Galaxy Watch Galaxy Watch5 series or newer

Record symptoms, moods and notes Yes Model- and software-dependent Yes, subject to availability
Overnight skin-temperature-assisted predictions No No Supported, subject to regional and software availability

Basic tracking does not require a Galaxy Watch. Samsung’s documented setup is through Samsung Health on Android; do not assume the feature is available on iPhone or that every Galaxy Watch has the same controls. Samsung also supports compatible Galaxy Ring devices for skin-temperature measurements. Check Samsung’s regional Cycle Tracking guidance for device and feature availability.

Set up Cycle Tracking and enter a period

  1. On your Android phone, open Samsung Health.
  2. On the Home tab, tap Cycle tracking. If the tile is missing, look in the app’s tracker-management or customization controls; menu placement can differ by app version.
  3. Select the period dates on the calendar, tap Next, enter or confirm your cycle duration, then tap Done.

Samsung’s US instructions limit a single period entry to 21 days. That is an app-entry limit, not medical guidance about what period length is normal. Once dates are saved, the cycle screen can show your current cycle day, recorded period, estimated next period, estimated fertile window, estimated ovulation date and cycle history. The exact screens may vary by software version.

Record symptoms, moods and notes

  1. Open Cycle tracking in Samsung Health.
  2. Tap Daily log.
  3. Select applicable symptoms, moods or physical-condition categories, add a note if useful, and tap Save.

Daily logs can help you notice personal patterns over time, but they are records of your observations, not a diagnosis.

Turn on skin-temperature predictions

Use this setting with a Galaxy Watch5 series or newer, or a compatible Galaxy Ring, where the feature is available. For a Watch, pair it with the phone using Samsung’s wearable setup and keep Samsung Health and watch software updated.

  1. Open Samsung Health on the phone and tap Home.
  2. Open Cycle tracking, then tap More options (the three vertical dots) and Settings.
  3. Turn on Predict period with skin temp. Depending on market or app version, the label may instead say Predict cycle with skin temperature.
  4. Wear the watch while sleeping. Return to Cycle Tracking and open the skin-temperature prediction view to review available data.

Samsung says the feature needs at least four consecutive hours of sleep between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. for a representative reading; daytime measurement is not supported. The feature uses overnight skin temperature to inform predictions. Skin temperature is not the same as a manually measured basal body temperature, and the watch does not directly measure ovulation. Samsung describes the feature as using Natural Cycles’ adapted fertility algorithm with Galaxy Watch temperature data; that integration was announced for Watch5 in 2023. A separate Natural Cycles subscription is not required for Samsung Health’s integrated Cycle Tracking setup.

Improve the usefulness of overnight readings

  • Wear the device consistently during sleep and aim to meet Samsung’s four-hour overnight measurement requirement.
  • Keep the watch fit and position reasonably consistent from night to night.
  • Account for disrupted sleep, room temperature, clothing and routine changes, which can affect readings.
  • If you also own a Galaxy Ring, choose one temperature-measuring device and use it consistently; wrist and finger temperatures are not interchangeable.

Why predictions can be off

Cycle length naturally varies, and Samsung says new cycle data is incorporated into future predictions. Missing or incorrect entries, irregular cycles, illness or fever, medication, hormonal contraception or ovulation-suppressing treatment, travel, disrupted routines, inconsistent wear and temperature conditions can all affect results. A prediction being wrong once does not by itself establish a watch fault. Hormonal treatment that suppresses ovulation may make ovulation estimates unsuitable or unhelpful.

If forecasts remain out of step with your experience, treat the app as a record of observations rather than an authoritative forecast. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance notes that future estimates use new cycle data, so improvement may take additional correctly logged cycles.

Troubleshoot a missing tile, prediction or temperature reading

If Cycle Tracking is missing

  • Confirm you are using Samsung Health on a compatible Android phone; Samsung’s documented setup does not establish iPhone support.
  • Check Samsung Health’s tracker-management or customization controls in case the tile is hidden.
  • Update Samsung Health and, if using a watch, its software; confirm that the watch is paired with the phone.
  • Check regional and model-specific availability in Samsung’s support guidance.

If skin-temperature data is missing

  • Confirm the device is a Watch5 series or newer, or a supported Galaxy Ring, and that the feature is available in your country.
  • Check that the skin-temperature prediction setting is on and the device is correctly paired.
  • Check whether you slept at least four consecutive hours between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m., and whether the device fit was consistent.
  • Avoid alternating between a Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring as temperature sources; consider sleep and environmental conditions that may have affected measurement.

A blank temperature view can result from timing, settings, device or regional limits; it does not by itself show that the watch’s general temperature sensor is broken.

If a prediction seems wrong

  1. Confirm the period start date and check for accidental duplicate or overlapping entries.
  2. Review cycle and period length in Cycle tracking > More options > Settings.
  3. If you expect temperature-assisted estimates, verify that the skin-temperature setting is enabled and that the device has recorded overnight data.
  4. Consider illness, medication, travel or hormonal treatment as possible influences, then update Samsung Health and watch software.

Restarting or reinstalling cannot be promised to correct an estimate immediately; future predictions may need additional accurate cycle entries.

Is Samsung Cycle Tracking contraception or medical advice?

No. Samsung explicitly labels Cycle Tracking “NOT INTENDED FOR CONTRACEPTION.” Do not use its fertile window or ovulation estimate to identify “safe days.” It is for wellness and cycle awareness, not contraception or diagnosis of infertility, pregnancy, hormonal disorders or other medical conditions. If you need contraception or fertility care, speak with a qualified clinician about an appropriate option. Persistent severe pain, unusually heavy bleeding, sudden cycle changes or other concerning symptoms also warrant medical advice. Samsung’s Samsung Health information describes these limitations.
