Yes, YouTube Music works on selected Garmin smartwatches through a Connect IQ app—but Garmin’s integration is download-only. You need a compatible watch, a YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription, Wi-Fi for downloads, and Bluetooth headphones for phone-free listening. The watch cannot stream YouTube Music directly over Wi-Fi or LTE.
Support began in Garmin’s Connect IQ Store on June 12, 2024. Because compatibility is model- and software-dependent, check the live Garmin Connect IQ compatibility information and search for YouTube Music with your exact watch selected.
What you need
- A Garmin watch that specifically supports the YouTube Music Connect IQ app.
- The Garmin Connect IQ and Garmin Connect mobile apps.
- A YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription. A free, ad-supported account is not sufficient for Garmin’s integration.
- Wi-Fi access for downloading music and podcasts.
- Bluetooth headphones or earbuds paired with the watch.
- Garmin Connect notifications enabled on your phone.
Keep the watch near the phone during setup. For a large download, place it on its charger: Garmin manuals warn that downloading audio can consume significant battery power and may require external power when the battery is low.

Music storage, Connect IQ support, and YouTube Music support are three different things. A Garmin watch may store personal audio files or support Spotify, Deezer, or Amazon Music without supporting YouTube Music.

- Search for YouTube Music.
- Install it only if the listing is available for that watch.
Do not rely on a generic list of Garmin music watches. Garmin’s lineup and app support can change, and the safest check is the current Connect IQ listing for your model. Garmin’s general music-storage overview is useful background, but music storage alone does not guarantee YouTube Music compatibility.
Install YouTube Music and sign in
- Open the Garmin Connect IQ app on your phone.
- Find YouTube Music and install it on the compatible watch.
- Open YouTube Music on the watch.
- When prompted, open the Garmin Connect app on the phone.
- Tap the Sign in notification.
- Enter the code displayed on the watch.
- Enter your YouTube Music username and password.
- Select the Google account you want to synchronize with the watch.
- Accept the Garmin Connect IQ terms and conditions.
Garmin’s launch announcement specifies that either YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium is required. Subscription prices, trials, and plan availability vary by country and can change, so check Google’s current signup page rather than relying on an old price.

Download music or podcasts to the watch
YouTube Music content must be stored on the watch before you leave your phone or an internet connection behind. The general path in the watch app is:

- Open YouTube Music on the watch.
- Select Music, Podcasts, or Library.
- Browse to the playlist or podcast you want.
- Select it and start the download.
- Allow the watch to synchronize the changes.
Connect the watch to Wi-Fi, use a stable connection, keep it near the router, and charge it during a large transfer. The downloaded copy is separate from the playlist in your online library. If you add tracks later, synchronize or initiate another download so the watch receives the changes.
Not every playlist is guaranteed to appear in full. Unsupported content, unsupported audio formats, an unstable connection, or the wrong account can prevent individual tracks from showing.

- Engineered with a supertough 45 mm fiber-reinforced polymer case and metal-reinforced bezel
- Built-in LED flashlight with variable intensities and strobe modes gives you greater visibility in the outdoors and provides convenient illumination when you need it
- Know your body better with health monitoring features, including wrist-based heart rate, advanced sleep monitoring, Pulse Ox and more (this is not a medical device, and data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked; Pulse Ox not available in all countries)
- Navigate confidently with a 3-axis compass, barometric altimeter and multi-band GPS with SatIQ technology, which delivers superior positioning while also optimizing battery life
Listen without your phone
- Pair your Bluetooth headphones or earbuds with the Garmin watch—not only with the phone.
- Open YouTube Music on the watch.
- Choose a downloaded playlist or podcast from the home screen, or open Downloads.
- Start playback.
The watch can browse downloaded content, play, pause, adjust volume, skip forward or backward, shuffle, repeat, and remove downloaded playlists or podcast episodes. Menu names and controls can vary by watch model and firmware.
The phone does not need to remain nearby for downloaded playback. It is needed for initial authentication, while Wi-Fi is needed to download content. Garmin’s YouTube Music implementation does not support direct streaming over Wi-Fi or LTE, unlike YouTube Music on some compatible Wear OS watches.
Best Value

Bluetooth headphones are the universal listening option for watch-stored audio. Some Garmin models also have a built-in speaker, but speaker playback is model-specific; check your watch’s manual rather than assuming it is available.

| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| YouTube Music does not appear in Connect IQ | Confirm the exact watch is selected and paired, update Garmin Connect, Connect IQ, and watch software, then check the live store listing. Connect IQ or music support alone is not enough. |
| The sign-in notification does not arrive | Enable Garmin Connect notifications, confirm Bluetooth, open Garmin Connect, and retry. Temporarily disable phone notification restrictions, battery optimization, or focus modes that may suppress the notification. |
| The code cannot be completed | Retry the sign-in flow. If the Garmin Connect notification still does not appear, use Google’s device-connect page in the phone browser and enter the code shown on the watch. |
| The wrong playlists appear | Log out of YouTube Music on the Garmin app and sign in again with the intended personal account. Brand Accounts are unsupported. |
| A playlist is incomplete | Check the connection and account, confirm the missing content exists in the selected library, and retry. Some content or audio formats are not supported. |
| A download stalls | Use Wi-Fi, move closer to the router, place the watch on its charger, verify internet stability, and restart the watch before trying again. |
| There is no sound | Pair the earbuds directly with the watch, confirm the item is fully downloaded, open it from Downloads, and check the watch volume. Do not expect the watch to stream. |
| Battery drains during downloading | Download while charging or with ample battery. Large audio transfers can use substantial power. |
YouTube Music compared with other Garmin music options
The best provider is usually the one you already subscribe to and whose playlists or podcasts you want offline. Garmin also identifies Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music as provider options on supported music-capable watches, but availability and features depend on the watch and service account.
- Choose YouTube Music if your existing playlists and recommendations are in YouTube Music and you are comfortable downloading them before workouts or travel.
- Choose Spotify, Deezer, or Amazon Music if you already pay for one of those services and its Garmin app supports your exact watch.
- Choose personal audio files if you own compatible DRM-free files and do not want an ongoing music subscription. Supported Garmin watches can receive personal audio through Garmin Express, using Garmin’s official Garmin Express software.
No option should be assumed to provide streaming, identical account behavior, or identical controls across every Garmin model. Check the provider’s current Connect IQ listing and your watch manual before changing services or buying a watch.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →What to verify before relying on it for a workout
- The YouTube Music app is listed for your exact Garmin model.
- Your Premium subscription and personal Google account authenticate successfully.
- Your headphones are paired to the watch.
- Your playlist or podcast shows under Downloads.
- The watch plays it with the phone disconnected and Wi-Fi unavailable.
That final test matters: Garmin YouTube Music is designed for offline playback, not on-demand streaming from the wrist.
