The Huawei Band 9 leak published on March 16, 2024, showed a tracker that looked much like the Band 8 and reported familiar core specifications. Huawei later launched the Band 9: its 1.47-inch AMOLED display, 5 ATM rating and Band 8-like design broadly matched the report, while its clearest changes were in sleep tracking, automatic brightness and strap options.
What the Huawei Band 9 leak showed
A March 2024 report from Gizmochina, citing WinFuture and leaker Roland Quandt, described official-looking renders and a set of expected specifications. The renders were not confirmed Huawei press images at the time: they showed a rectangular tracker with rounded corners, a single side button and a familiar Band 8-style appearance. Huawei had teased the product, but the full specification set and launch timing had not yet been announced. Gizmochina’s March 16 report and Notebookcheck’s launch-era coverage both described a design close to the Band 8.
The leak put forward a 1.47-inch AMOLED display, a 180 mAh battery, 5 ATM water resistance, multiple color options and an expected European price of €59. Those were pre-launch claims, not all officially confirmed specifications. Huawei subsequently launched the Band 9, including in Japan on April 25, 2024; the product is no longer unreleased speculation. Huawei’s Japan launch announcement documented the release and promoted features.
Which leaked claims were confirmed?
Huawei’s Canadian specifications page confirms the display size and resolution, the 5 ATM rating, the dimensions, sensors, supported phone operating systems and battery-life scenarios. The official details support the broad picture of a lightweight tracker with a familiar shape, but they do not validate every number or connectivity description in the leak.

Huawei’s official regional pages show that strap and color choices vary. The Canadian specification page lists fluoroelastomer and nylon options, but a leaked render or one market’s lineup should not be treated as a guarantee of availability elsewhere. Battery life depends on the tracking and display settings
Huawei gives three estimates rather than one guaranteed runtime. They are laboratory estimates under stated usage patterns, so actual battery life can vary with settings and use.
- Up to 14 days maximum: Huawei’s scenario enables heart-rate monitoring, disables TruSleep at night, includes 30 minutes of workouts per week and notifications, and assumes 200 screen activations per day.
- Up to 9 days typical: The stated scenario includes sleep monitoring, automatic SpO₂ monitoring and stress detection, 60 minutes of workouts per week, notifications, and 500 screen activations per day.
- Up to 3 days with always-on display: Huawei gives this estimate with AOD enabled under the more demanding typical-use scenario.
All three figures and their test conditions are listed by Huawei; the 14-day maximum should not be read as the expected result for every user.

What 5 ATM water resistance means
Huawei’s 5 ATM rating is not a promise that the Band 9 can be used at 50 metres underwater. The rating refers to static pressure equivalent to 50 metres for a limited test period; Huawei describes the band as suitable for shallow-water activities such as pool swimming. Its guidance excludes diving, hot showers, saunas, hot springs and fast-flowing water, and notes that water resistance may deteriorate with wear. Check Huawei’s water-resistance qualifications before using it in or around water.
How the Band 9 differs from the Band 8
The exterior and core display remain familiar
The leak’s central point—that the Band 9 would not be a major redesign—held up. The tracker retains the general rectangular shape and side-button arrangement, while the confirmed 1.47-inch, 194 × 368 AMOLED display and 5 ATM rating keep it in much the same hardware category as the Band 8. The update is evolutionary rather than a larger-screen or new-form-factor change.

Sleep and health tracking received the more notable changes
Huawei moved TruSleep from version 3.0 to 4.0 and promoted sleep information covering heart rate, blood oxygen, breathing and sleep-breathing disturbances. The company also describes improved TruSeen 5.5 heart-rate monitoring. These are software and sensing updates, not evidence of a redesigned tracker. Huawei’s launch announcement outlines the feature claims. Health readings are wellness features, not medical diagnosis or treatment.

An ambient-light sensor enables automatic display brightness adjustment, and Huawei’s Japan launch materials describe fluoroelastomer straps in place of the Band 8’s silicone/TPU approach on several versions, alongside nylon options. The band also supports 100 workout modes, with specialized swim features and automatic recognition for walking and running, according to the launch material. Feature and strap availability can differ by market.

Is the Band 9 a worthwhile upgrade?
- Consider it if you are buying a tracker and value sleep monitoring, automatic brightness, a lightweight body and Android/iPhone compatibility. The Band 9 combines those features with a familiar fitness-band format.
- An existing Band 8 owner has less reason to switch if the current tracker meets their needs and sleep-monitoring refinements, automatic brightness or strap material are not priorities. The display size and overall design are not a major step forward.
- Look elsewhere if you need built-in GPS, cellular connectivity, music storage, contactless payments or advanced smartwatch apps. The Band 9 is a fitness tracker, not a full-featured smartwatch.
- Compare local prices before deciding. The €59 figure was a leak-era European expectation, not a verified current price for every country; the Band 8 may be better value if discounted.
Availability and regional caveats
Huawei’s Japanese launch announcement records the April 25, 2024 release in Japan and lists replacement fluoroelastomer and nylon straps at a suggested ¥1,650 each there. That is a Japan-specific price from the launch period, not a current or international strap price. No U.S. price or live U.S. stock position is established by the cited product information. Colorways, straps, software functions and retail availability vary by market; check Huawei’s local listing and phone compatibility before purchase.
