Huawei FreeClip 2 is a second-generation open-ear, ear-clip-style pair of true wireless earbuds. It launched in China on September 24, 2025, with a listed starting price of ¥1,299. Its headline features include a redesigned clip, a 10.8mm dual-diaphragm acoustic unit in each earbud, and AI translation announced for China’s HarmonyOS feature set. That translation is not established as a universal feature across countries and phones.

The earbuds should not be understood as a standalone translator. Translation appears tied to Huawei’s phone and software ecosystem, and may depend on a compatible phone, operating-system version, app, account, network connection, language package, and region. Huawei’s international product page emphasizes its NPU processor, adaptive audio, and call processing rather than promising the same translation feature in every market. Confirm that your language pair and phone are supported locally before buying; “real-time” also does not mean instantaneous or human-level interpretation.

What “dual 10.8mm drivers” actually describes

Huawei’s specification is more precise than the headline shorthand: each earbud has one approximately 10.8mm open dual-diaphragm acoustic unit. “Dual” refers to the diaphragm architecture, not two separate 10.8mm drivers in each earbud. See the UK specifications and China specifications.

Huawei says the redesign improves air displacement, volume, and bass compared with the original FreeClip. Its claim of 100% stronger volume and air displacement is a Huawei laboratory comparison, not an independent listening measurement. Reviews differ on how large the audible improvement is: What Hi-Fi describes a meaningful acoustic redesign, while TechRadar sees the strongest gains in design and usability rather than a dramatic audio leap.

Driver diameter and architecture alone do not predict how the earbuds will sound. Fit, leakage, volume, codec, phone, surroundings, and listening preference all matter. Because the ear canal remains open, they also cannot provide the isolation of sealed in-ear headphones.

Design, fit and everyday use

FreeClip 2 keeps the original’s ear-clip concept but uses a C-shaped bridge made with liquid silicone and shape-memory alloy. Huawei says the bridge is 25% softer and the Comfort Bean section 11% smaller, based on development data from more than 10,000 ear samples. Those are Huawei design claims, not a guarantee that every wearer will find the fit comfortable.

• Approximate earbud dimensions are 25.4 × 26.7 × 18.8mm; the case is 50.0 × 49.6 × 25.0mm.

The open fit leaves the ear canal unobstructed, which can suit people who dislike ear tips and want to hear coworkers, announcements, or nearby traffic. The trade-offs are weaker isolation, possible sound leakage—especially at higher volume—and a fit that still depends on ear shape and pressure tolerance. An ear-clip design is not automatically secure or comfortable for every person or activity.

Sound, calls and noise control

FreeClip 2 is designed for open-ear listening, not conventional music noise cancellation. The specifications list call-noise cancellation and adaptive audio features, but not ordinary active noise cancellation for music. That distinction matters on aircraft, trains, in gyms, and on loud streets: environmental awareness comes at the cost of less isolation and less effective bass in noisy surroundings.

Huawei advertises three microphones with multi-channel DNN processing for calls. SoundGuys’ review also discusses call performance. Results can still vary with wind, traffic, phone, and caller expectations; a review or product claim cannot guarantee that speech will remain clear in every environment.

Huawei lists adaptive volume and adaptive voice enhancement. On the UK product page, adaptive volume is identified as an experimental feature and is disabled by default. Feature names and availability can vary by region and software.

Specifications, battery and water resistance

Battery figures are test results, not universal runtime guarantees. Higher volume, calls, adaptive features, codec choice, surroundings, and the connected phone can reduce playback time. Huawei’s full regional details are on its specification page.

IP57 applies to the earbuds, while the case is IP54. Do not interpret either rating as permission to swim, expose the case to the same conditions as the buds, or use the product with high-pressure or fast-flowing water. Huawei notes that water resistance can decline with normal wear.

Compatibility: basic Bluetooth is not every feature

Huawei says FreeClip 2 can connect to iOS, Android, and Windows devices. Basic Bluetooth audio is broader than access to every codec, customization, or AI feature. The HUAWEI Audio Connect app supports iOS, iPadOS, and Android, but app availability and functions can differ by country.

• iPhone, Android, and Windows: Check local support for basic pairing, audio, and the two-device connection you intend to use.
• Huawei phones: Some conveniences, such as automatic pop-up pairing or expanded multi-device behavior, may depend on EMUI or HarmonyOS.
• Codecs: L2HC requires compatible Huawei hardware and is not a general high-resolution codec option across platforms.
• Translation and assistant features: These may have narrower phone, software, language, and regional requirements than ordinary Bluetooth listening.

Before purchase, confirm the official app and feature requirements shown for your country rather than assuming that pairing successfully means every advertised service will work.

FreeClip 2 versus the original FreeClip

Huawei’s published comparison indicates changes in weight, battery claims, water resistance, and driver architecture. These are manufacturer figures rather than independent measurements.

The original FreeClip launched in 2023. The second generation refines the design and adds newer hardware and software claims, but independent reviewers do not agree that its sound improvement is transformative.

Who should consider it—and who should not

Consider FreeClip 2 if

• You dislike silicone tips or pressure in the ear canal.
• You want to remain aware of coworkers, announcements, or nearby activity while listening.
• You prioritize a light open-ear fit and calls over strong isolation.

• You need conventional ANC, strong passive isolation, or reliable bass in noisy places.

• You need a secure fit for high-impact exercise but have not tried this clip geometry.
• You are considering an import without confirming local app access, warranty, software, and return options.
