Huawei’s international launch has already happened. The Mate 80 Pro, Watch GT Runner 2 and compact MatePad Mini were unveiled at the company’s Madrid event on February 26, 2026. The MatePad Mini is the product described as an iPad mini alternative, while the Watch GT Runner 2 is the specialist running watch in the lineup.
“Global” means Huawei has launched the products through selected international markets—not that every model, price, colour or configuration is available in every country. The most important differences concern Huawei’s software ecosystem, regional connectivity and local support.

Huawei’s official Madrid launch announcement also covered other products, including the Watch Ultimate 2, FreeBuds Pro 5 and Band 11 series. The three devices above are the relevant lineup for buyers comparing Huawei’s flagship phone, running watch and compact tablet.
Huawei Mate 80 Pro: global specifications
The international Mate 80 Pro is a large premium phone built around its display, camera system, battery capacity and fast charging. Huawei’s global specification page lists the following configuration:

Those figures apply to the global Mate 80 Pro page. They should not be combined with Chinese-market specifications. Huawei’s China specification page lists HarmonyOS 6.0, Kirin 9030 or Kirin 9030 Pro options and different memory and storage configurations.
Why the regional distinction matters
A buyer importing the Chinese phone should not assume it is identical to the international model. Software, network bands, processor configuration, services, warranty coverage and app availability can all differ. Conversely, the global model should not be described as a 5G phone unless a country-specific page confirms that capability.
The Mate 80 Pro makes most sense for buyers who want a high-end camera phone, a fast and high-resolution display, a large battery and rapid charging—and who are comfortable using EMUI and Huawei Mobile Services. It is a riskier choice for anyone who requires Google Mobile Services, guaranteed access to every Android application, 5G or straightforward U.S. carrier and warranty support.

Huawei Watch GT Runner 2: the watch for serious runners?
The Watch GT Runner 2 is the most directly relevant product for WatchRanker readers. Huawei positions it as a return to professional running watches after a five-year break, with two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge named as its global ambassador. That is Huawei’s positioning, not independent proof that it outperforms Garmin, Apple or COROS.
The regional specification pages list:

See Huawei’s regional specifications for the exact published hardware details. The 5 ATM rating is not a promise of unrestricted diving use; it describes resistance under specified conditions. Likewise, IP ratings are laboratory classifications, not a guarantee that a watch is waterproof in every situation.

What the Watch GT Runner 2 is designed to do
The watch’s appeal is its combination of running-focused training tools, a relatively light case, health sensors, navigation hardware and Huawei’s long-battery-life positioning. Independent reviews have described it as a strong specialist running product, while also pointing to limitations involving Huawei’s app ecosystem and side-loading. Those conclusions should be read as review findings rather than universal performance claims. See the TechRadar review and T3 review.
Huawei’s Android and iOS compatibility gives the GT Runner 2 a wider phone range than an Apple Watch, but compatibility is not the same as equal integration. iPhone owners should not expect Apple Watch-level access to Apple Health, iMessage, Apple Pay or watchOS applications. Payment, music, messaging and health features can also vary by country.

Watch GT Runner 2 versus Garmin, Apple Watch and COROS
- Choose the Huawei if you want a light, running-oriented watch that works with Android or iPhone and you accept Huawei Health and its regional limitations.
- Choose Garmin Forerunner if you value Garmin’s established running ecosystem, training platform and broad endurance-sport support.
- Choose Apple Watch if you use an iPhone and want the deepest phone, health and app integration. It is not suitable for Android users and is generally less attractive for buyers prioritising multi-day endurance.
- Choose COROS Pace if running and endurance training matter more than smartwatch breadth.
- Choose Samsung Galaxy Watch if you use a compatible Android phone and want broader Wear OS app access, while accepting narrower compatibility than Huawei’s stated Android/iOS support.
No specification sheet can establish which watch has the best GPS, heart-rate accuracy or training guidance. Those claims require controlled testing of the exact regional model and software.
Huawei MatePad Mini: the iPad mini alternative
The MatePad Mini is the compact tablet, not the Mate 80 Pro or Watch GT Runner 2. Its 8.8-inch display and small tablet form factor are why coverage has compared it with Apple’s iPad mini.
That comparison is about portability and use case, not software equivalence. The MatePad Mini may suit readers who want a device for ebooks, browsing, video, notes and light productivity in a one-handed-friendly format. However, it uses Huawei’s tablet software ecosystem rather than iPadOS. App availability, Google services, stylus support, accessories and cellular configurations must be checked for the specific country.

For iPadOS applications, Apple Pencil workflows, iMessage and Apple ecosystem continuity, the iPad mini remains the safer choice. A small Android tablet may be better for buyers who require Google Play, while an e-ink reader is preferable for distraction-free reading and battery life. Large-screen phones and foldables are more convenient for communication but are usually less comfortable for sustained reading or tablet-style work.

A Malaysian launch document, for example, shows that regional sales and promotions were handled through a market-specific store. Do not assume that a Wi-Fi model, cellular model, storage tier or bundled accessory available in one country will be sold elsewhere.
Global availability and pricing
Huawei announced the products in Madrid, Spain, on February 26, 2026. By August 18, 2026, the correct description is a completed international launch with market-specific availability—not an upcoming global launch.
Huawei’s international product pages demonstrate global marketing and availability across selected regions, but “global” does not mean universal retail access. Buyers should verify:
- Whether the device is officially sold in their country
- The exact model number and network bands
- Local software and app support
- Colour, memory, storage and cellular options
- Warranty and repair arrangements
- Whether the listed promotion is still active
There is no single worldwide official MSRP in the cited launch material. One independent UK review reported a launch price of £349.99 for the Watch GT Runner 2 during its April 2026 review period. That is a UK market reference, not a global price. See TechRadar’s pricing reference.

Chinese retail prices should not be converted directly into U.S. or European prices. Taxes, distribution, storage configurations, bundles and launch promotions can materially change the final amount. For current buying information, start with Huawei’s Mate 80 Pro page, wearables page and tablet page, then switch to the local Huawei store.

Consider it if: you prioritise camera hardware, display quality, battery capacity and fast charging, and your local Huawei ecosystem meets your needs.
Look elsewhere if: you need 5G, Google services, complete Android app compatibility or dependable local carrier and warranty support.
Watch GT Runner 2
Consider it if: you are a serious runner who values training features, a light watch and cross-platform phone compatibility.
Look elsewhere if: you need Apple integration, a Wear OS or watchOS app catalogue, advanced third-party payments or a multisport workflow that has not been confirmed for your region.

MatePad Mini
Consider it if: you want an unusually portable tablet for reading, media, browsing and notes, and you are comfortable checking Huawei’s app ecosystem first.
Look elsewhere if: you depend on Google Play, iPadOS-exclusive apps, Apple services or a particular cellular configuration that is not sold locally.
Verdict
Huawei’s international launch is real, but the headline needs to be written in the past tense. The Mate 80 Pro, Watch GT Runner 2 and MatePad Mini launched internationally at Huawei’s Madrid event on February 26, 2026, with availability and specifications varying by region.
For watch buyers, the Watch GT Runner 2 is the clearest specialist proposition: it combines running-focused hardware with Android and iPhone compatibility, but it cannot match Apple’s ecosystem integration or Garmin’s established training platform for every user. The MatePad Mini is a credible compact-tablet alternative by size and purpose, not a drop-in iPad mini replacement. The Mate 80 Pro is compelling on paper, but its global EMUI and 4G specification makes local software, network and warranty checks essential before purchase.
