The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro leak was published on September 19, 2024, just before Huawei’s Barcelona launch event—and Huawei officially unveiled the watch that same day. The report correctly pointed to 42mm and 46mm versions, premium materials, a 466 × 466 AMOLED display, long battery life and a €379–€599 price range. However, some details need qualification: the two watches have different display sizes, Huawei’s official specification page lists 5 ATM water resistance rather than IP68, and prices and features vary by market.
Here is what the leak claimed, what Huawei confirmed, and what buyers should check before purchasing.
What the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro leak claimed
The pre-launch report from Gizmochina, citing tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore, included product renders and specifications for Huawei’s then-unannounced premium smartwatch.

These were reported claims, not confirmed specifications at the time. Huawei’s launch event took place on September 19, so the predicted September 24 date should not be treated as a universal launch date. Availability began at different times depending on the country and configuration.
What Huawei subsequently confirmed
Huawei unveiled the Watch GT 5 series in Barcelona on September 19, 2024. Its launch announcements confirmed the Pro model’s premium positioning, two case sizes, health and fitness focus, and use of titanium alloy and nanocrystal ceramic. Huawei’s official specifications also provide the more precise dimensions, display details, sensors and water-resistance rating.

The leak was broadly right about the shared resolution, but it was incomplete in describing both models as having the same display. The 46mm watch has the larger screen, while the 42mm version has higher listed pixel density because the same resolution is packed into a smaller panel.

Battery life: the main reason to consider it
The leak’s figures—up to 14 days with normal use and up to eight days with intensive use—are attractive, but they describe usage categories rather than a fixed result. Always-on display, frequent GPS workouts, notifications, Bluetooth calls, music playback, health monitoring, screen brightness and software version can all reduce runtime. Case size and configuration may also affect endurance.

The GT 5 Pro is therefore better understood as a long-battery smartwatch than as a watch that universally lasts two weeks. Buyers who use GPS daily or keep the display always on should expect less than the headline figure.
Fitness and outdoor features
Huawei positioned the GT 5 Pro around health monitoring, sports analysis and outdoor activities. The reported sports package included more than 100 modes, GPS support across GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS, and an AI Trainer. Huawei’s launch material also highlighted running-form analysis and cycling-related functions.
The sensor list is unusually broad for a watch in this class, including ECG and depth sensors alongside heart-rate, temperature, barometric and motion sensors. But a sensor’s presence does not mean every related feature is active everywhere. ECG, health measurements and other regulated functions can depend on country approval, software version and account or phone settings.

Navigation and sports limitations
The available evidence supports positioning and sports-tracking capabilities, but it does not establish that the watch provides the same full turn-by-turn navigation experience as a dedicated outdoor computer. Readers should check Huawei’s regional feature page and the current Huawei Health app before buying specifically for navigation, golf, diving or advanced training analysis.

The depth sensor may support diving-related functions, but the GT 5 Pro should not automatically be treated as a professional dive computer. Huawei’s official rating is also 5 ATM—not unrestricted 50-meter diving.
Water resistance: IP68 is not the official headline
The leak cited IP68, but Huawei’s official specification page lists 5 ATM water resistance. A 5 ATM rating refers to pressure equivalent to 50 meters under controlled test conditions; it does not mean the watch can be taken 50 meters underwater or used in every water environment.
It is reasonable to describe the watch as designed for certain swimming and water-use scenarios. It is not accurate to call it waterproof or assume that the rating makes it suitable for unrestricted diving. Follow Huawei’s care guidance and avoid treating a water-resistance rating as a guarantee against all water damage.

Choose the 42mm model if:
- You have a smaller wrist or prefer a less prominent watch.
- You want the lighter body, at approximately 44g without the strap.
- You value the higher listed pixel density of the smaller display.
- You prefer the ceramic case treatment on both the front and rear.
Choose the 46mm model if:
- You want the larger 1.43-inch display for reading notifications and workout data.
- You prefer the titanium-alloy front case.
- You are comfortable with a larger, heavier watch weighing approximately 53g without the strap.
- You want a more substantial traditional-watch appearance.
The two sizes share the same listed resolution and core sensor package, so the choice is primarily about fit, display size, appearance and materials rather than a simple performance hierarchy.

Pricing and availability
The original leak reported a European price range of €379–€599, apparently covering different case, material and strap configurations. It did not establish one exact price for every 42mm or 46mm model.
Launch-period UK coverage reported the Watch GT 5 Pro starting at £329.99. That is a UK launch-price signal, not a conversion basis for other markets. Taxes, bundles, strap options, promotions, warranty coverage and regional availability all change the final price.

Buyers considering an imported model should check whether Huawei provides local warranty service, whether the software region matches their account, and whether payments and health features work in their country. An apparently cheap imported configuration may not be equivalent to a locally sold model.

Huawei lists Android 9.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later as supported phone requirements. That establishes platform compatibility, not feature parity.

The watch depends on the Huawei Health app for setup, synchronization and much of its health-data experience. Android and iPhone users should verify the current regional app support before purchase, particularly if they need:
- Replies to messages
- Third-party app installation
- Voice-assistant functions
- Health-data synchronization
- Music controls
- Contactless payments
- Reliable background connectivity
NFC hardware also does not guarantee contactless payments. Payment services are country-dependent, and iPhone restrictions can affect notifications, replies and background behavior. The GT 5 Pro can be a sensible iPhone-compatible fitness watch, but it is not automatically an Apple Watch substitute.
Is it a smartwatch, fitness watch or hybrid?
The Watch GT 5 Pro is best viewed as a fitness-focused hybrid smartwatch. It combines an AMOLED screen, notifications, wireless charging and phone connectivity with long battery life, sports tracking and premium watch construction.

It is a stronger fit for someone who prioritizes multi-day endurance, health sensors, running or cycling features, outdoor data and traditional-watch materials. It is a weaker fit for someone whose first priority is a deep third-party app ecosystem, smart-home control, guaranteed payments or tightly integrated phone features.
Compared with a standard Huawei Watch GT 5, the Pro model’s appeal is its more premium construction and expanded high-end positioning. The Huawei Watch Ultimate sits above it as a more expensive adventure-oriented option. Garmin’s fēnix family is more training- and navigation-focused, while Samsung’s Galaxy Watch and Apple’s Apple Watch generally offer stronger platform-specific app and phone integration. Those alternatives should be compared using local prices and current regional features rather than headline specifications alone.
Bottom line
The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro leak was unusually close on the broad hardware story: Huawei did launch 42mm and 46mm models with premium materials, a 466 × 466 AMOLED display, extensive health sensors and a long-battery-life proposition. But the useful current conclusion is more nuanced than the original leak headline. The displays are different sizes, official water-resistance documentation says 5 ATM rather than IP68, and price and software functionality depend heavily on market and phone platform.
Consider it if battery life, materials and sports tracking matter more than apps and deep phone integration. Before buying, confirm the exact local configuration, warranty, payment support, ECG availability and iPhone or Android feature set.
