The leaked photos were broadly right: Huawei’s Watch GT Runner 2 arrived with a more distinctive, colorful look than a conventional running watch. But the February 2026 leak is now history—the finished watch has launched, and its bigger buying questions are running performance, regional availability, and whether Huawei Health fits your phone and training routine.
What the leaked photos showed
On February 25, 2026, before Huawei’s China launch, a report based on images published by WinFuture showed a round AMOLED watch with a pronounced geometric frame, colored accents and a slimmer-looking profile. The images suggested a titanium-alloy component and several strap looks, including black, blue and a multicolor orange, purple and white option. Those were pre-launch indications, not confirmed specifications at the time. The original leak coverage framed the change as a more stylish direction; that description is subjective, but the colorful, more designed appearance is visible in the finished product.
What Huawei actually launched
The final watch broadly followed the leak’s design direction. Huawei lists three main colors—Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue and Midnight Black—and highlights an emphasized bezel with colored details. It includes two straps: a breathable AirDry woven strap and a fluoroelastomer strap. The round screen and sporty silhouette remain, so this is an evolution of a running watch rather than a transformation into a dress watch. Huawei Japan describes the GT Runner 2 as the successor to the original GT Runner, launched in 2021. The newer model is about 10% lighter by Huawei’s comparison, weighs roughly 34–34.5 grams without a strap, and is approximately 10.7 mm thick. TechRadar lists a titanium-alloy case, a 43.5 mm case size and an AMOLED display with peak brightness up to 3,000 nits. Peak brightness is a specification, not a guarantee of that level in every condition. Huawei Japan’s announcement and TechRadar’s review provide the cited specifications.

More personality, without abandoning practicality
The styling change is specific: a stronger geometric bezel, orange and blue case accents, brighter colorways and a woven strap give the watch more visual character than an all-black sports watch. Midnight Black remains the subdued option; Dawn Orange and Dusk Blue are more conspicuous, and may be less versatile with formal clothing. Huawei markets the woven strap for breathability as well as appearance. Whether the redesign is “more stylish” depends on taste, but it is plainly more expressive.
That visual refresh does not appear to displace the running-first purpose. Huawei advertises more than 100 sports modes, training plans that adapt to goals and condition, running metrics including VO₂ max and recovery-related information, and a smart marathon mode with pacing and race-strategy assistance. The company also promotes an Eliud Kipchoge partnership and a Racing Legend Edition campaign. These establish Huawei’s positioning; a long feature list alone does not prove professional-level performance.
GPS and battery: promising, but read the claims in context
The watch supports dual-band GPS and, in TechRadar’s specification list, QZSS, GLONASS and Galileo. Huawei has made comparative accuracy claims, including against Garmin models; those should be treated as Huawei’s claims rather than settled results. TechRadar reported strong GPS performance in its own testing, including a 10.5-kilometer run compared with a Garmin Fenix 8 Pro. That is useful independent evidence, but it is one reviewer’s route and test, not a universal guarantee or a direct test against the Forerunner 970.

GPS reception can differ with buildings, trees, tunnels, weather, wrist position and firmware. Even a strong GPS result does not resolve questions about maps, workout-data export or integration with a runner’s preferred services. Check the specific navigation and synchronization features you rely on before choosing it.
Huawei Japan quotes up to 14 days of typical use and up to 32 hours of continuous GPS use. These are manufacturer maximum figures, not expected results for every owner. Always-on display behavior, workout frequency, health monitoring, notifications, calls and GPS conditions affect endurance. The GPS figure is particularly relevant for marathon and longer-distance training, while real-world battery life is best judged from independent testing under comparable settings.
Health features are market-dependent
The Japanese announcement lists heart-rate, blood-oxygen, stress, sleep and continuous HRV tracking, as well as ECG functionality. Huawei says the health features are not intended for medical use. Its release notes Japanese medical-device approval for the ECG app; that approval should not be assumed to apply elsewhere. Feature availability and regulatory status vary by country, and wellness metrics should not substitute for medical diagnosis.

Price and availability depend on where you live
Huawei Japan announced availability from March 27, 2026, with a suggested retail price of ¥54,780 including tax. TechRadar lists the UK price at £349.99 and described availability in Europe and Asia. Its review reported that the watch was not available in the United States or Australia at the time of testing. These are regional signals, not a guarantee of current stock in every country: check Huawei’s local catalog and retailer listings before buying.
For buyers in markets without official local sales, an imported unit is not automatically equivalent to a locally supported product. Warranty, firmware, language support, health approvals and services may differ. A UK or Japanese price also should not be treated as a local price conversion that includes taxes, shipping or support.

The GT Runner 2 is most compelling for runners in supported markets who want a light, slim running watch, long stated GPS endurance and a more colorful design than the usual black-and-gray sports palette. TechRadar’s favorable GPS assessment gives the hardware case more weight than launch claims alone, while remaining one independent review rather than a guarantee.

Pause if your priority is a broad third-party app catalog, cellular service, or seamless integration with Apple or Google services. Bluetooth connectivity is identified in the available specifications; cellular capability is not. Huawei Health is central to the experience, so check its compatibility and the exact data-sharing route with your phone and training platform before committing. The available information does not establish a universal Strava or other-service workflow across regions, so verify that specific requirement locally.
In short, the leak correctly foreshadowed a more colorful, angular GT Runner. The redesign makes the watch less anonymous, but the strongest reasons to buy—or pass—remain practical: local availability, phone and training-ecosystem fit, and whether the running tools and battery meet your needs.
