Huawei launched the HUAWEI WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN Sapphire Gold Edition in China on November 26, 2024, at ¥23,999. That was ¥11,000 more than the Mate X6’s ¥12,999 China starting price—about 84.6% higher. The watch’s premium is chiefly for its materials and luxury positioning, not a proportionally more advanced smartwatch platform.
What Huawei launched
The product’s full China-market name is HUAWEI WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN 非凡大师 蓝宝石黄金款, commonly rendered in English as the Watch Ultimate Design Sapphire Gold Edition. Huawei announced it on November 26, 2024; Chinese technology coverage reported first sale at 5:30 p.m. local time that day. It appeared around Huawei’s Mate 70 and Mate X6 launch activity, but it was a luxury-materials version of the Watch Ultimate family, not a new smartwatch generation. Huawei’s China product page lists the edition from ¥23,999. The page notes that displayed prices are reference prices and that the Huawei Mall listing determines the final price. See Huawei’s China product page.
What the sapphire-and-gold description means
The watch is not an all-gold case and bracelet. Huawei describes a sapphire bezel and sapphire-glass display lens, with gold used on specified details. Its Chinese product notes identify 24K-gold bezel markings, 18K-gold bezel bars and crown, and 24K-gold PVD sections on the titanium bracelet. PVD is a surface finish; it does not mean the entire bracelet is solid gold.

Case descriptions vary by regional product material. Huawei’s UK specifications describe a liquid-metal case, a bezel combining 18K gold and nanocrystal ceramic, a crown and buttons of 18K gold and titanium alloy, and a nanocrystal-ceramic case back. The China marketing description refers to a non-crystalline zirconium body. These descriptions should not be collapsed into a claim that the whole watch is made from gold or sapphire. What it does as a smartwatch
The luxury edition retains the Watch Ultimate family’s outdoor and health-oriented feature set. Launch coverage lists a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display with 466 × 466 resolution, sapphire protection and 10 ATM water resistance. Huawei’s specifications describe diving support under stated operating and certification limits, including use at depths up to 100 metres; a water-resistance rating is not permission to use the watch in every diving environment. Follow Huawei’s instructions and the applicable certification limits.

- China-market connectivity: Two-way BeiDou satellite messaging is listed for supported China-market configurations. Vehicle-key support reported for selected AITO and S9 vehicles should not be assumed to work with other cars or in other regions.
Huawei claims up to 14 days in a light-use scenario, up to 8 days in a more demanding typical-use scenario and up to 4 days with always-on display enabled. These are estimates under specified conditions, not guaranteed runtimes: Huawei says actual battery life varies with configuration, software, use and environment. How it compares with the Mate X6 price

These are China starting prices, not matched storage configurations or discounted offers. On that basis, the watch costs about 1.85 times as much as the Mate X6, or approximately 84.6% more. Huawei lists the Mate X6 from ¥12,999.

The comparison makes the watch’s price striking, but it is not a technical contest between equivalent products. A foldable phone and a luxury smartwatch serve different purposes; the watch’s higher price reflects precious-material details, finishing and prestige positioning rather than evidence that its processor, sensors or software are more advanced than the phone’s.

There are three distinct kinds of value here. Functionally, buyers get a large outdoor-focused smartwatch with navigation, health tracking, diving features and battery estimates that are substantial for the category. Materially, the sapphire, titanium and specified gold components offer a distinctive finish and scratch resistance. As a luxury object, the design and branding may appeal to someone who values an unusually expensive wearable.

Those benefits do not establish that the watch is better value for smartwatch functions alone. The evidence points to the same broad Watch Ultimate platform dressed in more exclusive materials, not a corresponding leap in software or sensors. Sapphire is scratch resistant, not indestructible: a hard impact can still damage the crystal or assembly. Water resistance can also diminish with wear, impacts, repair history or aging seals.

Who should consider it
It may suit a buyer who specifically wants a Huawei outdoor smartwatch with luxury materials, already uses compatible Huawei services and is comfortable paying for finish and status as well as function. It is a poor fit for someone comparing watches primarily by features per yuan, or expecting a full solid-gold case and bracelet.
Availability and support require particular care. The launch and ¥23,999 price established here are for China. They do not prove the same edition, price, warranty or feature support in another country. Huawei’s regional wearable pages show that product variants and offerings can differ by market; check the local Huawei listing before buying or importing. Huawei’s UK wearable page is one regional example. A China-market import may also have different software behavior, payment or network compatibility, language options, health features and warranty eligibility. Confirm those details with Huawei for the buyer’s country before committing.
