The device behind the “wearable AI camera that records your day and makes vlogs” pitch is the Looki L1, a 32-gram clip-on camera priced at $249 USD on Looki’s site. It can turn captured photos, clips and audio into AI-generated recaps, comics and summaries—but its all-day use is based on sampling moments at intervals, not filming an uninterrupted day. Looki says continuous video lasts roughly 1–3 hours, so the L1 is better understood as an automated lifelogger than a hands-free replacement for a creator camera.
What is the Looki L1?
The Looki L1 is a small wearable camera designed to clip onto clothing or a mount and capture moments without requiring you to hold a phone. Its central promise is not simply to make more footage; it is to help sort captured material into a personal record of the day. The Looki app is used to manage the device and its AI features.
Looki lists a weight of 32 g, 32 GB of storage, an IP67 water- and dust-resistance rating, and a 375 mAh battery. Its camera is specified for 4K photos and 1080p video at 30 frames per second, with a 109-degree field of view, electronic image stabilization and HDR. That distinction matters: “4K camera” refers to the listed photo resolution. The stated video mode is 1080p at 30 fps. A wide view and stabilization can help with casual point-of-view clips, but they do not provide the framing control, lens options or audio setup of a conventional creator camera.

Does it record your whole day?
Not as one continuous video. Looki says the device does not record continuously by default. Its Story Mode uses interval-based capture, taking short clips at set intervals; continuous recording is a separate option. In practical terms, day-long lifelogging means collecting samples and selected moments rather than preserving every second.
Looki publishes these estimated runtimes for interval capture:

The product is also promoted with “up to 12 hours” of AI-mode battery life. These are different published figures, so treat them as estimates, not a guaranteed result. Capture frequency, Wi-Fi use, temperature, audio and other activity can affect runtime. For continuous use, Looki gives a broader estimate of roughly 1–3 hours for audio or video; continuous video is divided into 10-minute clips. That makes the L1 unsuitable if you expect one charge to cover an entire outing as uninterrupted footage. Looki’s product page and its support FAQ describe the modes and estimates.
How does it turn clips into a vlog?
The intended workflow is straightforward:
- Wear the L1 and select an interval-based mode, or make a deliberate recording.
- Sync the captured media with the Looki app.
- Use the app’s AI features to organize the material and request a recap, lifelog, comic or text-based insight.
- Review the result and the underlying media before keeping or sharing it.
Looki advertises highlight selection and generated videos with text and music, including a “1 Day in 1 Minute” format. That describes an automated recap, not necessarily a finished, creator-ready vlog. The available product information does not establish consistent editing quality, how much control users have over clip selection, export resolution, or whether a generated video needs further editing. Think of it as a possible starting point for a casual social post or a memory aid, not a substitute for planning, filming and editing a polished video.
AI selection is also subjective. It can miss a quiet moment that matters to you, preserve something irrelevant, or build a recap around what is visually obvious rather than emotionally important. If an event cannot be missed, use a deliberate recording method and confirm that the device is capturing it.

What does the AI do?
Looki says the L1’s system can identify notable moments, create summaries and short videos, generate stylized comics, and answer questions about the user’s captured life. The company also promotes reminders, observations and personalized insights. Looki says its system uses models including Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude, but its public product materials do not explain which model handles each task, whether a particular feature is processed on-device or in the cloud, or whether users can choose a model. So “AI camera” does not mean the camera itself makes every decision locally or that it can understand every moment correctly. It is a combination of capture hardware, app features and AI processing, with technical details that Looki does not fully disclose in its public materials.
Privacy is part of the buying decision
A wearable camera can capture more than the wearer intends: nearby faces, conversations when audio is on, home interiors, screens, documents and children. A generated recap may bring several of those moments together in a shareable file, so review matters before uploading or posting.
Looki says a Trust Light blinks during Story Mode recording and cannot be disabled. The company also claims end-to-end encryption, says personal data is not used to train AI models, and describes a firewall for filtering inappropriate content before AI processing. At the same time, Looki says its service is powered by AWS and Google Cloud. These are company statements; encryption claims should not be read as proof that media never reaches cloud infrastructure. - Tell people before recording when local law, workplace or venue rules call for it.
- Do not record in bathrooms, changing rooms, medical settings, confidential meetings or other places where recording would be inappropriate.
- Stop capture before entering sensitive settings, and check app permissions and account settings.
- Review clips for bystanders, private conversations, location clues, screens and documents before sharing.
Recording and consent laws vary by location and by whether audio or video is involved. The device’s visible light is useful, but it does not replace consent or good judgment.

Price, app support and memberships
Looki lists the L1 at $249 USD. Its product page currently describes standard service as requiring no mandatory subscription, while its support center documents Essential, Prime and Infinity membership levels. Essential is described as free; higher tiers are associated with additional features such as auto-generated daily vlogs, lifelog summaries, more AI interactions and advanced processing. Who is it for?
The L1 is most plausible for someone who values hands-free capture and automatic memory-making more than control over the final video. It may suit families, travelers, pet owners or casual social creators who want snippets and a rough daily recap, and who are comfortable reviewing and editing AI output.
It is a poor fit for anyone who needs uninterrupted recording across a full day, reliable coverage of an important event, high-end low-light footage, professional audio, or exact control over framing and edits. A chest, collar or bag-mounted camera can point the wrong way, move excessively, or be blocked by clothing or hair; stabilization cannot fix poor positioning. The IP67 rating is useful for dust, rain and splashes, but should not be treated as unrestricted permission for swimming, diving or prolonged water exposure.
What to use instead
- Phone: Better for deliberate framing, immediate review and manual editing; less passive, so you may miss moments you would have captured hands-free.
- Action camera: Better suited to continuous recording, activity mounts and a conventional video workflow. It will not automatically create a personalized recap without additional software.

Verdict: an automated memory camera, not a tiny film crew
The Looki L1’s value depends on whether you want a system to sample daily life and try to turn those snippets into a recap. Its small size and interval-mode runtime support that kind of casual lifelogging. The trade-offs are equally central: short continuous-video endurance, selective capture that can miss important events, uncertain membership pricing for some features, and the privacy implications of wearing a camera around other people.
Buy it for low-friction personal documentation if you are comfortable with those limits and willing to review what it creates. Skip it if “records your day” means continuous video or if you expect polished, publish-ready vlogs without hands-on editing.
