Meta and EssilorLuxottica launched Meta Glasses on June 23, 2026. The displayless AI glasses have open-ear speakers, cameras, microphones and Meta AI, and start at $299 in the United States. Despite the partnership with Ray-Ban’s parent company, this collection is not branded Ray-Ban Meta: it carries Meta branding and has no in-lens screen.
What launched, and where do Ray-Ban Meta glasses fit?
Meta Glasses are a new collection made with EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear group behind Ray-Ban and Oakley. Meta announced 26 styles across frame colours and lens options, including prescription-compatible choices; that does not mean every prescription or lens treatment is available for every frame or in every market. Meta said the glasses were available at launch in several countries through Meta.com, Best Buy, Amazon, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut and selected retailers. Availability, styles and stock vary by location. Meta’s launch announcement gives the starting price as $299 in the US; prescription lenses may add to the cost.
The name matters. Ray-Ban Meta is a separate, Ray-Ban-branded family of smart glasses. Its second generation was announced in September 2023, and the current family also includes newer Gen 2 and optical styles. Meta Glasses share the broader partnership and AI-glasses concept, but they are not a newly launched Ray-Ban Meta model. Meta’s announcement of Ray-Ban Meta and Ray-Ban’s current product page show the distinct product line.
Another easily confused product is Meta Ray-Ban Display, which is a separate, more expensive model with an in-lens display. Meta’s comparison guide lists its starting price as $799. Meta’s guide to its AI glasses distinguishes that model from displayless Meta Glasses and Ray-Ban Meta.

What can Meta Glasses do?
Ask Meta AI by voice
You can use voice and the glasses’ dedicated Meta AI/action button to ask questions hands-free. Meta describes camera-assisted AI that can use what the wearer is looking at as context for questions about places, sports and everyday subjects. That is not a promise of continuous or infallible visual understanding: the glasses have no display, and the usefulness of responses depends on the feature, connection and situation.
Meta says Meta Glasses are the first glasses in its portfolio announced to launch with Meta AI powered by Muse Spark from day one in the United States and Canada. This is Meta’s product description, not an independent assessment of the AI’s performance. The company also describes ways to manage scheduling and daily tasks where supported. Features can vary with country, language, account, phone, app and software version.
Capture photos and video hands-free
The glasses include cameras for hands-free photo and video capture, with voice-triggered controls and sharing through Meta’s software ecosystem. Meta also announced Dynamic Photo, which captures a short sequence of frames and recommends a preferred image. The launch announcement does not provide a complete camera-resolution specification for Meta Glasses, so Ray-Ban Meta’s published camera numbers should not be assumed to apply.
Meta’s 2026 comparison guide describes Ray-Ban Meta as having 12-megapixel photos and 3K video; those figures refer to Ray-Ban Meta, not this Meta-branded collection. See Meta’s product comparison.

Listen through open-ear speakers
The built-in speakers direct sound toward the wearer without sealing the ear canal. They are intended for music, podcasts, audiobooks, calls and spoken AI responses, while leaving the ears open to surrounding sounds. Meta also advertises advanced microphones and wind-noise reduction; those are manufacturer claims, and actual clarity depends on fit and conditions.
The trade-off is less isolation and privacy than sealed earbuds. Other people may hear some audio, especially at higher volume, and wind, traffic or crowds can make listening and calls harder. Open-ear speakers are not hearing protection. In a quiet shared space, lower volume or conventional headphones may be more considerate.
Use translation and forthcoming navigation
Meta announced live translation support for 14 additional languages, including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi and Korean. Language and regional availability can vary. The company also described pedestrian navigation for displayless glasses as coming soon; it should not be treated as a feature available to every buyer at launch.

Meta Glasses have no display in the lens. They can speak responses and capture media, but they cannot show turn-by-turn directions, incoming messages, captions or other visual overlays in the wearer’s field of view. If visible information is the priority, Meta Ray-Ban Display is the relevant alternative; it has an in-lens display and starts at $799 according to Meta’s comparison guide. Do not assume all AI functions work offline. Meta presents its AI as part of its connected services, and many features depend on a compatible phone, app, account or internet access. Support and rollout can also differ by market, language, operating system and firmware.

Battery, prescription lenses and water resistance
Meta claims more than eight hours of battery life for Meta Glasses. The launch material does not establish that figure as a standardized real-world result. Runtime can change with audio volume, camera use, AI queries, calls, livestreaming, connectivity, background features, temperature and battery age. TechCrunch reported Meta’s additional claim of up to 40 hours from the charging case, but that figure should be checked against the exact model listing before relying on it. Meta says the glasses are prescription compatible, but the supported prescription range, lens treatments and frame choices should be confirmed with the retailer or optical provider for the exact model and country. Ray-Ban’s prescription-focused Meta optical styles have their own frame and fit options; they are not proof that every lens choice is available for Meta Glasses.

Do not transfer Ray-Ban Meta’s water-resistance rating to Meta Glasses without a model-specific specification. Ray-Ban’s FAQ says Ray-Ban Meta glasses are IPX4 water resistant, suitable for light rain but not submersion or prolonged liquid exposure. Ray-Ban’s FAQ concerns Ray-Ban Meta, not necessarily the Meta Glasses collection.

For Ray-Ban Meta, Ray-Ban’s support page lists a compatible Android phone or iPhone, the Meta AI app, a Meta account, wireless internet and a USB-C charging plug or suitable power source. Its FAQ specifies Android 10 or later and iOS 14.4 or later while directing users to a complete supported-phone list. Those are Ray-Ban Meta requirements and should not be treated as final compatibility requirements for every Meta Glasses configuration. Check the model-specific support information before buying.
For Ray-Ban Meta, the app-based pairing flow includes placing the glasses in their case, waiting for the blue LED and holding the capture button for about 12 seconds to enter Bluetooth pairing mode. Controls can differ by model, so use the instructions for the glasses you own. A practical first setup is:

- Charge the glasses and case, then enable Bluetooth on the phone.
- Follow the model-specific pairing instructions in the app; allow the phone permissions needed for the features you intend to use.
- Install any available glasses firmware update.
- Review camera, voice-control, notification, sharing and privacy settings before using the glasses.
- Test audio, calls, capture and AI features in a familiar setting before relying on them elsewhere.
If something does not work
- Pairing fails: Charge the glasses and case, check Bluetooth and app sign-in, then redock and retry using the model-specific pairing steps. Restart the phone and app if needed. If the glasses may still be linked to another account, check the transfer instructions. For Ray-Ban Meta, Ray-Ban says one Meta account can be associated at a time and a factory reset is required when transferring ownership.
- AI features are missing: Check country and language support, update the app and firmware, confirm microphone and voice permissions, and verify the signed-in account. A feature announced as forthcoming or rolling out may not yet be available to you.
- Audio sounds weak or unclear: Check volume and fit, clean the speaker openings, make sure the phone has not routed audio to another Bluetooth device, and test in a quieter place. Wind and traffic can reduce clarity.
- Battery drains quickly: Reduce camera, livestream and call use, lower volume, install updates, and consider whether frequent AI use or poor connectivity is contributing. Return the glasses to the charging case between sessions.
Factory reset should be a last resort because it can remove captures and account associations. Ray-Ban’s reset guidance applies to Ray-Ban Meta; consult the correct model’s instructions before resetting Meta Glasses.

Privacy: cameras, microphones and recording etiquette
These glasses put cameras and microphones on the wearer, so people nearby may not realize a recording is being made. Meta describes a visible capture indicator as part of its privacy approach, but an indicator does not settle consent, legal or social questions. Recording laws, especially for audio, vary by jurisdiction; check the rules where you are.
Avoid recording in places where people reasonably expect privacy or where confidentiality rules apply, including medical facilities, schools, workplaces, changing rooms and private homes, unless you have the necessary permission. Review the device’s privacy settings and Meta’s controls before use. Before selling or giving away Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Ray-Ban advises a factory reset to remove captures and account associations; verify the equivalent model-specific process for Meta Glasses.
Who should consider buying Meta Glasses?
A reasonable fit
- You want hands-free voice assistance, calls, music or first-person camera capture.
- You prefer open-ear audio and eyewear to wearing earbuds or a headset.
- You want a lower starting price than display-equipped smart glasses and do not need information shown in the lens.
- You are comfortable using a Meta account, companion app and connected services.
- You have confirmed that a suitable frame and prescription option are available where you live.
Look elsewhere if
- You want maps, captions, messages or notifications visible in the lens; consider Meta Ray-Ban Display instead.
- You need strong audio isolation, or frequently listen in noisy places.
- You want camera-free eyewear, do not want cloud-connected AI, or prefer not to depend on a phone and account.
- You require guaranteed all-day runtime under heavy camera, call or AI use.
- Your main goal is conventional sunglasses rather than smart features, or your required prescription and frame combination is unavailable.
For a more conventional setup, earbuds paired with a normal camera avoid a camera mounted on the face and may provide better audio isolation, though they do not offer the same hands-free, first-person capture.
