The Nubia Z70 Ultra New Year Edition was announced on January 13, 2025 and went on sale in China on January 16, 2025. It is a Chinese New Year commemorative version of the Z70 Ultra, with an orange leather-textured/faux-leather-style rear, silver frame, special packaging, an exclusive case and a bundled smartwatch. The launch date is historical as of August 2026; this was not a new global release.
Later Chinese retail reporting put the 16GB/1TB model at CN¥6,299, versus CN¥5,599 for the comparable standard configuration. The premium primarily covered the special finish and accessories, because the core phone hardware remained broadly the same.
What launched, and when?
Nubia, the ZTE smartphone brand, presented the Nubia Z70 Ultra New Year Edition as a Lunar New Year-themed special edition. Nubia’s announcement appeared on January 13, 2025, with Chinese sales beginning January 16, 2025. NubiaMart’s announcement and contemporaneous reports describe a China-only launch; no confirmed international release was reported.

That distinction matters in 2026. “Launching January 16” refers to January 16, 2025, not an upcoming sales event. The standard Z70 Ultra was reported separately as having wider international availability, but that does not establish global availability for this New Year Edition.

What makes the New Year Edition different?
Orange-and-silver design
The phone uses an orange leather-textured or faux-leather-style rear finish with a silver-colored frame. Coverage differs on whether the material should be called leather, faux leather or leather-textured glass, so the conservative description is an orange leather-style finish rather than confirmed genuine leather. Notebookcheck and its German-language report describe the orange rear and matching presentation details.
Special packaging and accessories
The bundle was reported to include a New Year-themed box, an exclusive protective case and a complimentary smartwatch, reportedly with a matching orange treatment or strap. The available reports do not consistently identify the watch model. It should not be called the Nubia Watch GT without a direct confirmation from Nubia.

Price and configuration
Pre-launch coverage did not provide a firm special-edition price. A report published for the January 16, 2025 Chinese sale listed CN¥6,299 for a 16GB RAM/1TB storage configuration, compared with CN¥5,599 for the corresponding standard Z70 Ultra. That is a reported China-market figure, not a current US, European or global retail price. Xiaomiui reported the sale price and configuration.

It largely reflects the commemorative design, packaging and bundled accessories. Currency conversion also would not account for import tax, reseller markups, warranty limitations or Chinese-market software and network differences.

One NubiaMart promotional page incorrectly lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Contemporaneous technical coverage and the regular Z70 Ultra’s published platform identify Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is the processor this edition should be associated with. Can you buy it outside China?
No official international launch for the New Year Edition was confirmed in the launch coverage. An imported unit may appear through third-party sellers, but that is not the same as an official global release or local warranty.

Checks before buying an imported unit
- Confirm the exact model number and whether it uses Chinese-market firmware.
- Check LTE and 5G bands against your carrier and country.
- Verify Google Play, banking and streaming-app compatibility.
- Ask about bootloader, region and language restrictions.
- Confirm warranty coverage in your country and whether the phone is carrier-unlocked.
- Check that the smartwatch, charger and case are included.
- Ask whether the watch requires a region-specific companion app.
- For used devices, verify battery health and authenticity.
- Make sure the seller is not charging a collector premium for an incomplete bundle.
Should you buy one now?
It makes sense for
- Collectors who value the orange design and commemorative packaging.
- Nubia fans who specifically want the limited-edition accessories.
- Buyers comfortable with Chinese firmware, import support and carrier-band checks.
It is a poor fit for
- Anyone requiring official local warranty service.
- Buyers who need guaranteed regional software and network compatibility.
- Performance-focused shoppers who do not value the special finish or bundle.
- People seeking a current flagship with the clearest long-term support path.
The standard Z70 Ultra is the more rational choice when the objective is the phone itself. The New Year Edition is defensible when its appearance, packaging and collector appeal are the reason to buy; its internal performance is not materially higher.

Bottom line
The Nubia Z70 Ultra New Year Edition was a China-only January 2025 design-and-bundle refresh, not a new 2026 global model. It paired the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite-based Z70 Ultra platform with an orange leather-style exterior, special packaging, a case and an unidentified bundled smartwatch. The reported CN¥6,299 16GB/1TB price makes sense mainly for collectors; imported buyers should treat firmware, bands, warranty and accessory verification as essential.
