Yes: Oakley Meta Vanguard launched with Strava integration. But “integration” does not mean Strava’s full live dashboard appears in the glasses. The documented feature connects Strava through the Meta AI app, matches captured photos and videos to an activity, adds workout statistics as overlays, and lets you share the finished media to Strava and other services.
For live performance information, Oakley points instead to its Garmin integration. That distinction matters if you are considering the Vanguard’s $499 U.S. starting price.
What “from day one” means
Meta and Strava announced the partnership on September 17, 2025, ahead of Oakley Meta Vanguard’s announced October 21, 2025 launch. Strava was part of the product’s announced launch feature set rather than a later add-on. Meta listed a U.S. starting price of $499.
That claim should still be read with a qualification: availability can vary by country, language, phone, app version, and feature rollout. “Launch integration” does not mean every buyer worldwide necessarily received identical access at the same time.

Meta’s launch announcement and Strava’s announcement describe a media-focused Strava experience, not a native Strava app built into the lenses.
What the Strava integration actually does
The feature has four separate parts:
- Connect your Strava account: You authorize Strava inside the Meta AI mobile app.
- Capture media: Vanguard records first-person photos and videos while you run, cycle, hike, or train.
- Add activity data: In the Meta AI Gallery, you select a captured item and apply available Strava statistics as visual overlays.
- Share the result: The edited media can be shared to the matching Strava activity and, where supported, to services such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
In other words, Vanguard does not independently become a Strava tracker. Strava supplies data from an activity, while the glasses supply the camera footage. The Meta AI app connects the two.
Does Vanguard show live Strava pace, heart rate, or distance?
Do not buy Vanguard expecting a live Strava dashboard in your field of view. Strava’s documented workflow is media-based: open captured media in Meta AI Gallery, tap Stats, choose metrics, save the edit, and share it.
Oakley’s live-performance claims relate to Garmin integration. With compatible Garmin hardware, Vanguard can provide access to real-time and historical performance information, including features such as asking Meta AI for pace and receiving information through the glasses’ indicator system. The compatible Garmin watch or bike computer is sold separately.
This gives the two platforms different jobs:

Which Strava metrics can appear?
Strava lists distance, pace, heart rate, and power among the available statistics. Its launch announcement also refers to average pace, elevation gain, and other activity data.

The exact choices depend on what the underlying Strava activity recorded. A heart-rate overlay requires heart-rate data from a compatible sensor or device. A power overlay requires power data. The glasses do not independently measure every statistic simply because they are connected to Strava.
How to connect Strava to Oakley Meta glasses
Strava’s current support instructions use this path in the Meta AI app:

- Pair and configure your Oakley Meta glasses.
- Open the Glasses tab.
- Tap Settings using the gear icon.
- Select App Connections.
- Choose Strava.
- Tap Connect Strava.
- Sign in to Strava and authorize the connection.
- Record your activity and capture photos or video with the glasses.
- Open the media in Meta AI Gallery.
- Tap Stats, select the metrics you want, and tap Save.
- Share the media to the matching Strava activity.
According to the Strava Help Center, the media must correspond to an activity recorded during the same time frame. If you want to attach the footage to another activity, export it to your phone’s Photos app and upload it manually to Strava.
What you need
The overall experience depends on more than the glasses:
- Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses
- A compatible smartphone
- The Meta AI mobile app
- A valid Meta account
- A Strava account authorized through Meta AI
- Wireless internet access for the app-based setup and sharing
Oakley currently lists Android 10 or later, with location services enabled, or iOS 14.4 or later. It also lists a USB-C charging plug for wall charging; the charging cable is not included. Requirements can change with later app and operating-system updates, so check the current Oakley product page before buying.

You do not need a Garmin device for the basic Strava overlay and sharing workflow. You do need compatible Garmin hardware for the Garmin-specific live-performance functions. The available information confirms a Strava account requirement, but does not establish that a Strava Premium subscription is bundled with Vanguard.
Supported glasses, countries, and regional limits
Strava’s current support documentation says the integration works with Oakley Meta and Ray-Ban Meta glasses, excluding Ray-Ban Stories. That means the feature is not necessarily exclusive to Vanguard.
Oakley’s current U.S. information lists product support or availability across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Australia. Oakley presents somewhat different lists for purchasing, shipping, and Meta AI support, so buyers should distinguish between a country where the hardware can be bought and a country where every app feature is officially supported.
Oakley also says it cannot ship the glasses to Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico because of local shipping regulations. Importing the hardware is not proof that Meta AI, Strava, or Garmin features will function officially in an unsupported market.
Troubleshooting Strava setup
Strava does not appear under App Connections
- Confirm that Vanguard is paired in the Meta AI app.
- Update the Meta AI app and glasses software.
- Check whether your country and language are officially supported.
- Close and reopen the app, then revisit Glasses → Settings → App Connections.
- If Strava was previously connected, check the existing authorization rather than looking for a second setup option.
The media will not attach to the activity
Check the timing first. Start recording the Strava activity before capturing the relevant footage, and avoid assuming that a paused or separately recorded workout will match automatically. Strava’s documented matching rule is based on overlapping time frames.

If the wrong activity is selected or the automatic match is unavailable, export the media to your phone’s Photos app and upload it to Strava manually.
A metric is missing
Check whether the activity actually contains that data. Distance and pace may come from the activity record, but heart rate and power require the relevant sensor data. The glasses cannot create a heart-rate or power measurement that was never recorded.
The connection works but sharing fails
Confirm that the phone has internet access, that Strava authorization is still active, and that both the app and glasses are updated. Reconnecting Strava authorization may help. There is no official basis for treating a VPN as a supported fix for regional restrictions.

Strava is only one part of the product. Oakley lists a centered ultra-wide 12MP camera capable of 3K video capture, open-ear speakers, IP67 water and dust resistance, and battery claims of up to nine hours of daily use, six hours of continuous audio or calling, plus up to 36 additional hours from the charging case. Oakley says a full charge takes about 75 minutes.
These are manufacturer “up to” figures. Actual battery life varies with recording, audio, calls, connectivity, settings, and other use. Long continuous recording or heavy all-day use may deliver less than the headline number.

Is Vanguard worth $499 for a Strava user?
Vanguard makes the strongest case for athletes who want hands-free first-person capture, open-ear audio, AI features, and convenient workout sharing in one sport-oriented frame. It is less compelling if Strava overlays are your only reason to buy.
Vanguard is a good fit if you:
- Already record activities with Strava or Garmin.
- Want first-person video without holding a phone.
- Value quick social sharing and post-workout visual summaries.
- Want sport-focused eyewear with open-ear audio.
- Already own compatible Garmin hardware or are comfortable adding it for live metrics.
- Accept the need for a smartphone, Meta AI app, Meta account, and internet-connected workflow.
Think twice if you:
- Expect Vanguard to replace a Garmin watch, cycling computer, or GPS training device.
- Mainly want live Strava pace, heart rate, or distance in the lens.
- Need a completely offline workout setup.
- Dislike cloud-connected cameras, voice assistants, or Meta account requirements.
- Need long continuous recording or dependable all-day battery under heavy use.
- Live outside an officially supported market.
- Only want to add occasional photos to Strava and do not need the camera, audio, or AI features.
Alternatives
Ray-Ban Meta
Ray-Ban Meta is the more everyday-oriented option. Strava’s support page includes Ray-Ban Meta models while excluding Ray-Ban Stories. Choose it if daily wear matters more than Vanguard’s sport-first design.
Oakley Meta HSTN
Oakley Meta HSTN offers a less performance-specific frame style. Because Strava describes compatibility with Oakley Meta glasses generally, it may suit buyers who want occasional activity capture alongside normal daily use. Check the current regional product and feature listings before purchase.
Garmin watch or bike computer with ordinary sports glasses
This is the better setup for buyers whose priority is reliable live metrics, navigation, training tools, and activity recording. It lacks Vanguard’s integrated camera, open-ear audio, and AI functions, but Garmin is the relevant hardware ecosystem for the live-performance features Oakley promotes.
Phone plus Strava
A phone and Strava remain the simplest lower-cost route for recording and sharing workouts. The trade-off is less convenient hands-free first-person capture and none of Vanguard’s camera, audio, or AI hardware.
Bottom line
Oakley Meta Vanguard did launch with Strava integration, but the feature is best understood as Strava-powered overlays for media captured with the glasses, followed by sharing to a matching activity. It is not a documented replacement for a live Strava training display.
Buy Vanguard for the combined experience of sport-oriented eyewear, hands-free POV video, open-ear audio, AI assistance, and app-mediated fitness sharing. If live pace, heart rate, power, navigation, or serious training data is the priority, plan around a compatible Garmin device—or choose a dedicated Garmin and ordinary sports glasses instead.
