Leaked renders published on July 8, 2024, showed the OnePlus Pad 2 and OnePlus Watch 2R with designs that looked familiar rather than new. The images, attributed to Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) and Android Headlines, also included the Nord Buds 3 Pro. OnePlus later unveiled all three products at its July 16, 2024 Milan Summer Launch Event, so this is a look back at a leak that largely foreshadowed the launch—not a report about unreleased devices. 9to5Google’s July 8 report covered the renders and expected launch.
What the July 8 leak showed
The gallery contained official-looking renders, not photographs of retail units or an official specification sheet. The OnePlus Pad 2 appeared as a large gray tablet with rounded corners and a rear camera centered in the familiar OnePlus Pad position. The Watch 2R had a round face, two visible side buttons and a revised-looking bezel, with green and dark gray/black finishes shown. The Nord Buds 3 Pro appeared in black and mint/green, with a speckled-looking case.
Renders can indicate expected colors and visible design details, but they cannot establish final materials, dimensions, software, regional configurations or performance. Separate pre-launch reports supplied the specification tips; those were not confirmed merely because the products appeared in the images. Gadgets 360’s leak report collected those claims.
Why the designs looked familiar
The Pad 2’s silhouette and camera placement continued the design language of the first OnePlus Pad. The Chinese OnePlus Pad Pro had already offered a strong reference for the hardware direction expected for the international tablet. Likewise, the Watch 2R looked close to the OnePlus Watch 2, rather than like a wholly new watch generation. The July 8 report said the global products appeared related to devices OnePlus had recently introduced in China; that was a useful clue, not proof that every market detail or specification would be identical. The original render coverage made that connection before the global launch.

OnePlus Pad 2: a familiar chassis with upgraded internals
The render suggested continuity: rounded tablet corners, a centered rear camera and a restrained gray finish, rather than a visible redesign. At launch, OnePlus called the U.S. color Nimbus Gray and described a slim metal-unibody design. The final U.S. model measures 268.66 × 195.06 × 6.49 mm and weighs 584 g, according to OnePlus’s U.S. specifications. The 7:5 screen and landscape-oriented productivity accessories supported a work-and-entertainment pitch, but the render alone did not establish either feature.
Pad 2 specifications: leak versus launch confirmation
The following separates what was tipped before launch from what OnePlus later confirmed. The pre-launch figures were reported claims, not official specifications at the time.

The leak’s main performance and hardware claims largely matched the eventual launch specifications. OnePlus said the tablet could fully charge in 81 minutes under its stated testing conditions; that is the company’s figure, not an independent measurement. The 900-nit value is an HBM peak, not a promise of sustained full-screen brightness. See the Pad 2 launch announcement and U.S. specification page for the confirmed details.
What the Pad 2 design does—and does not—tell buyers
- The visual continuity made the Pad 2 an evolution of the original Pad’s shape, not an obvious exterior reinvention.
- The confirmed screen is LCD, despite its high resolution, refresh rate and Dolby Vision support; it is not OLED.
- The 13MP rear and 8MP front cameras are part of the specification, but the launch materials emphasized the tablet’s display, performance and productivity use rather than photography.
- The keyboard and stylus are separate accessories to consider if the tablet is meant for writing, drawing or document work; the leak did not establish bundle contents or accessory pricing.
OnePlus Watch 2R: close to the Watch 2, but lighter
The leaked watch had a round case, two side-mounted buttons and a bezel that appeared revised from the Watch 2. Its familiar outline concealed the more consequential distinction: the Watch 2R uses aluminum alloy rather than the Watch 2’s heavier stainless-steel-oriented construction. OnePlus launched it in Forest Green and Gunmetal Gray and described it as almost 25% lighter than the Watch 2 because of that aluminum construction. That percentage is OnePlus’s comparison, not an independently measured result.

The Watch 2R was positioned as a lighter, lower-priced alternative, not as an entirely new generation or an identical copy. The case material, weight and color options differ, while the core dual-engine approach and Wear OS platform are related. Contemporary Watch 2R coverage discussed that positioning; the official launch announcement described the product at OnePlus’s Milan event.

OnePlus’s U.S. specifications give the aluminum-alloy watch dimensions as 47.6 × 46.6 × 12.1 mm, excluding the additional sensor protrusion noted by the company. The listed weight is about 37 g without the strap and 59 g with it. Its “up to 100 hours” Smart Mode figure is a manufacturer estimate under OnePlus’s test model, not a guaranteed everyday runtime; screen settings, GPS use, calls and other usage change battery life. Compatibility and feature limits to check
- The listed compatibility excludes iPhones and Android Go devices. Android version alone may not be sufficient if a phone lacks the required Google Mobile Services.
- Dual-frequency GPS and 100-plus sports modes are stated features, but a count of modes does not mean every activity has the same sensor depth.
- Health, sleep, stress and heart-rate features are wellness tools, not a substitute for medical diagnosis or clinical monitoring.
- Do not assume independent LTE or cellular calling from Bluetooth calling or from specifications for a different regional model. The U.S. listing cited here does not establish cellular support.
How the leak lined up with the launch
The sequence made the July 8 renders more plausible than an isolated rumor: OnePlus introduced an updated Watch 2 variant in China on June 27, 2024; announced its international Summer Launch Event on July 5; and the renders appeared on July 8. On July 16, the Milan event officially introduced the OnePlus Pad 2, Watch 2R, Nord 4 and Nord Buds 3 Pro. The date and product identities were right, and many of the reported specifications were confirmed, while the renders themselves remained evidence of appearance rather than proof of every final detail.

Update, July 16, 2024: OnePlus officially launched the Pad 2 and Watch 2R at its Milan Summer Launch Event, alongside the Nord 4 and Nord Buds 3 Pro. The earbuds were supporting products in the leaked gallery, not just a rumored accessory. Read OnePlus’s event announcement for the launch confirmation.
What this historical leak means now
The renders accurately previewed the central story: OnePlus was bringing recognizable hardware designs to its global lineup, with the Pad 2 favoring internal upgrades over a new silhouette and the Watch 2R emphasizing lighter aluminum construction over a radical redesign. These devices launched in 2024. OnePlus’s current U.S. press index lists later products including the Pad 3 and Watch 3, so the Pad 2 and Watch 2R should not be described as the newest OnePlus models in a present-day buying guide. Regional specifications and live availability matter for any purchase decision.
