The OnePlus Watch 3 really did jump from its $329.99 U.S. launch price to $499.99 in April 2025—but that price did not last. OnePlus lowered the 46mm model’s announced U.S. MSRP to $349.99 later that month and said it would refund the $150 difference to customers who paid $499.99. Tariffs were the likely catalyst, although OnePlus publicly blamed “current market conditions” rather than confirming tariffs by name.
The Watch 3 briefly became a $500 smartwatch
OnePlus announced the 46mm Watch 3 for the U.S. and Canada on February 18, 2025. Its original U.S. price was $329.99, according to the company’s launch announcement. On April 10, the U.S. price rose to $499.99—a $170 increase, or about 51.5% over launch pricing.
On April 28, OnePlus announced a reduction to $349.99 and called that the final MSRP. That put the watch $150 below its temporary high, but still $20 above its launch price. The timeline matters: $329.99 was the launch price, $499.99 was temporary, and $349.99 was the later announced MSRP. OnePlus’ price-change announcement also promised refunds for buyers charged $499.99.

Were tariffs to blame?
Tariffs are the most plausible explanation, but the distinction between confirmed fact and inference is important. OnePlus described the increase as a response to “current market conditions”; it did not explicitly say tariffs caused it. When announcing the lower price, the company cited supply-chain adjustments. The timing coincided with rapidly changing U.S. tariff policy, and contemporary technology coverage widely connected the increase to tariffs affecting Chinese imports. That does not establish that a tariff added exactly $170 to each watch. A tariff is generally assessed on declared import value, not the retail price. The product’s origin and customs classification, when inventory entered the country, freight and brokerage costs, currency exposure, retailer margins, and uncertainty about future rates can all affect the final price. The $170 figure is the retail-price increase—not a verified tariff bill or a confirmed change in manufacturing cost.
What the Watch 3 offers for the money
The 46mm Watch 3 combines Wear OS by Google with RTOS and uses a Snapdragon W5 processor alongside a BES2800BP MCU. OnePlus lists 32GB of storage, a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with 466 × 466 resolution and peak brightness up to 2,200 nits, a sapphire crystal cover, a titanium-alloy bezel, and a stainless-steel case. It also lists 5ATM and IP68 water-resistance ratings, MIL-STD-810H testing, and dual-frequency GPS using L1 and L5 signals. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not independent test results. Full details are on the official specifications page.
Battery endurance is the standout selling point. OnePlus claims up to five days in Smart Mode, up to 16 days in Power Saver Mode, and up to three days under its heavy-use Smart Mode scenario. It also says 10 minutes of charging can provide up to a day of use. Those figures depend on the company’s stated test conditions and should not be treated as guaranteed everyday results; GPS, display settings, notifications, and health tracking can change endurance.

Wear OS brings access to apps and services such as Google Play, Google Maps, Google Wallet, Spotify, and Strava. OnePlus says health data is for general wellness and fitness, not for diagnosing, treating, mitigating, or preventing disease. Feature availability can also vary by region and software support.
Is it worth buying at $349.99?
At the announced $349.99 MSRP—or less—the Watch 3 can make sense for an Android user who values long battery life, a bright, large display, GPS, and Wear OS apps more than compact size or broad phone compatibility. At its original $329.99 launch price, the combination was especially compelling. At $349.99, it remains a reasonable battery-focused option, though it is no longer quite as much of a bargain.
At $499.99, the value case weakened sharply. The watch was then priced like premium smartwatches while offering a narrower phone ecosystem and health features that are not medical-grade. A buyer facing that price should compare current alternatives and look for a discount, bundle, or trade-in that materially reduces the effective cost. Do not assume that $349.99 is today’s checkout price: it is the final MSRP OnePlus announced in April 2025, not a guarantee of current stock or pricing. Check the official product page and store before ordering; availability, promotions, tax, shipping, and configuration can change.

46mm or 43mm?
The 46mm model is the better fit if battery life, a larger screen, and on-screen controls are priorities. The 43mm version is smaller and lighter, making it worth considering for smaller wrists or anyone who finds the larger watch bulky. OnePlus lists the 43mm at about 37.8g without its strap, with a 1.32-inch AMOLED display and up to 60 hours of Smart Mode use or up to seven days in Power Saver Mode—substantially shorter Smart Mode endurance than the 46mm model’s claim. Check the 43mm specifications before choosing; the smaller model is an ergonomic alternative, not necessarily a cheaper or better one.

Compatibility and other limitations
- Android only: The Watch 3 requires Android 9 or newer with Google Mobile Services. It does not support iOS or Android Go devices. Confirm your phone meets the requirements listed in OnePlus’ compatibility specifications.
- Not a medical device: Health measurements are wellness and fitness references, not a substitute for medical advice or diagnosis. Some regulated functions can vary by country.
- Water resistance has limits: OnePlus says 5ATM/IP68 does not make the watch suitable for hot showers, saunas, hot springs, deep diving, or diving, and discourages seawater use. Water resistance can diminish over time. See the product cautions.
- Some controls need specific phones: Camera control requires compatible OnePlus or OPPO phones and specified software versions; short-video controls support TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
If you paid $499.99
OnePlus said it would contact affected customers directly and refund the difference, but its public promise alone does not confirm that every refund was completed. If you bought during the April 10–April 28 price window, check your order confirmation and payment statements for a $150 refund to the original payment method. If it is missing, contact OnePlus support with your order number, payment record, and shipping details.
Buying from an overseas seller
A substantially lower import listing may come with trade-offs that are hard to see in the headline price: regional software or health-feature restrictions, warranty limitations, different regulatory or charger requirements, uncertain seller authenticity, and costly return shipping. Cellular-band differences matter if a particular imported model has cellular connectivity. For a U.S. buyer, compare the total cost and support terms, not just the listed price; an official U.S. page is the safer starting point.
