If your original OnePlus Watch will not pair outside China, your location alone probably is not the cause. Reports point most strongly to a mismatch between a Chinese-market watch’s firmware and the global OnePlus Health app; other users have reported setup failures even after Bluetooth detects the watch. Identify the watch’s region and use the matching app before treating it as defective.
First check which OnePlus Watch you have
This issue mainly concerns the original OnePlus Watch launched in 2021. Do not apply these instructions automatically to the OnePlus Watch 2, Watch 2R or Watch 3: those later models use OHealth and have different phone requirements.
Global or Chinese firmware?
Check the model and firmware information in the watch’s settings, packaging or pairing screen. Users have identified W301CN as a Chinese-market model, while W301B and some firmware strings have appeared on global units. These are useful clues, not a definitive official region-identification table. Also check which companion app the watch’s QR code or pairing screen directs you to, and whether the seller described it as an import. Community reports associate Chinese firmware with HeyTap Health and global firmware with OnePlus Health (model-identification reports; firmware discussion).
Being outside China does not, by itself, establish that pairing is blocked. The relevant factors can include watch firmware, the app variant, account or location requirements, and the phone’s ROM and Google services. Reports of the regional mismatch and app differences are community accounts, not a current official compatibility table (imported-watch report; Chinese-app discussion).

Do not confuse the original watch with later models
The original global OnePlus Watch’s published requirements were Android 6.0 or later and Google Play Services 11.7 or later; OnePlus said iOS was not supported at launch. The later OnePlus Watch 3 43mm, by contrast, specifies Android 9 or later and Google Mobile Services 23.45.23 or newer, and uses OHealth. Those newer requirements do not apply retroactively to the 2021 watch (original OnePlus Watch requirements; Watch 3 43mm requirements).
Use the app that matches the watch
Global original OnePlus Watch
For the global original model, OnePlus directs users to OnePlus Health. The official manual says to set up the watch through the app, rather than relying on a Bluetooth connection made only in Android settings. The Google Play listing still describes OnePlus Health as supporting the OnePlus Watch and OnePlus Band, but availability of the app does not guarantee that every older watch will work with every current Android build (OnePlus Watch user manual; OnePlus Health on Google Play).
Chinese-firmware original OnePlus Watch
Users have reported that Chinese-firmware watches may need the Chinese HeyTap Health app rather than the international OnePlus Health app. Some reported registering with a local phone number or email, but those accounts are anecdotal and may no longer work from every country. Check the watch’s own pairing instructions and account-registration options before repeatedly retrying the global app (user report on imported watches).

Avoid random APK download sites unless you understand the security and account risks. An app name containing “OnePlus” does not prove it supports every regional model; likewise, OHealth is not simply another name for the original OnePlus Health app.
Pair through the app, even if Android already sees the watch
Bluetooth detection and full setup are separate stages. Some owners reported that Android showed the watch as paired while OnePlus Health still failed to finish setup. A Bluetooth record alone does not confirm that the app has registered and provisioned the device (pairing-failure report).
- In Android Bluetooth settings, forget or remove the watch if it is already listed.
- Open the matching health app, sign in and grant the permissions it requests.
- In OnePlus Health, open Manage, tap the scan icon, select the watch and confirm the pairing request. These are the steps given in the official manual.
- Finish account and device setup in the app before using Android Bluetooth settings for anything else.
Troubleshoot a likely global watch safely
If you believe the watch has global firmware and your phone meets its published requirements, try these steps in order. Resetting network settings or the watch can remove saved connections and settings, so use those steps only after simpler checks.

- Charge the watch and phone, then restart both.
- Toggle Bluetooth off and on. Allow any Bluetooth-scanning or location permissions the phone requests during setup.
- Forget the watch in Android Bluetooth settings and begin again inside the health app.
- Sign out of OnePlus Health and sign back in. If pairing still fails, clear the app cache; if needed, clear app data or reinstall the app.
- Reset the phone’s network or Bluetooth settings, then reboot the phone. The exact menu label varies by Android version and manufacturer.
- If setup still fails, factory-reset the watch from its system settings or pairing screen.
- Retry pairing from the health app. If possible, test with a second compatible Android phone to distinguish a phone-specific problem from a watch or region issue.
OnePlus Community users reported success after combinations of network reset, signing out, restarting and resetting the watch. These are user-reported outcomes, not guaranteed or OnePlus-certified fixes (reported troubleshooting results).

Option 1: Try the Chinese app
If the watch remains on Chinese firmware, trying HeyTap Health is the least invasive route. You may still encounter account-registration, language, update or feature limitations, and users have reported different results from different countries. Confirm that the app and account route are available to you before investing time in repeated setup attempts.
Option 2: Consider a return or replacement
If the listing did not disclose Chinese firmware, promised global compatibility, or the correct regional app cannot be used, contact the seller while the return period is open. For a buyer who wants dependable setup rather than a firmware experiment, a clearly labeled global model from an authorized seller is usually the lower-risk choice.

Option 3: Treat firmware conversion as an unofficial risk
Some community users say converting a Chinese watch to global firmware let them use OnePlus Health. This is not an official OnePlus procedure established by the sources cited here. Reports warn of bricking, data loss, lost China-specific features such as Alipay or NFC functions, and difficulty reverting. Firmware is model-specific; do not use files or instructions meant for another edition. These reports do not establish that conversion remains safe or effective today (conversion discussion and reported trade-offs).
Check the phone if the watch’s region looks right
A phone running a Chinese ROM, lacking native Google Mobile Services or using a customized ROM may create a separate compatibility problem. A global watch can also fail because of app permissions, background restrictions, stale Bluetooth records or account state. One later community report describes a Chinese-ROM phone and a global watch, but it does not prove a universal rule about such phones (phone-ROM compatibility report).

If the watch pairs with another compatible Android phone, focus on the original phone’s ROM, Android and Google Play Services versions, permissions, battery restrictions and app/account state. One 2021 user also reported being unable to re-pair after an earlier pairing despite resets and reinstalling the app; that single account does not establish a universal account lock (individual re-pairing report).
When is the watch likely defective?
One failed attempt is not enough to diagnose hardware failure. First verify the model and matching app, remove old Bluetooth records, and retry setup through the app. If the watch still fails on more than one compatible Android phone with the appropriate app, a faulty device or corrupted watch software becomes more plausible. For a recently purchased device, seek seller or OnePlus support before attempting unofficial firmware changes. OnePlus’s global support portal is service.oneplus.com/global.
