The original Google Pixel Watch received an October 2025 update, but it did not get Wear OS 6. The release began on October 27 with build BW1A.251005.003.W1 and a short changelog: security updates and bug fixes. The first-generation watch remained on Wear OS 5.1, based on Android 15, while the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 moved to Wear OS 6.
That distinction matters for owners: October 2025 marked the end of the original Pixel Watch’s three-year guaranteed update period, not necessarily the last firmware update it would ever receive.
What the October update includes
Google’s October 2025 Pixel Watch update notice lists the original Pixel Watch and build BW1A.251005.003.W1 for the global release. Its stated changes are “Security updates and bug fixes”; Google did not list new features or an operating-system upgrade.
The rollout began October 27 and was phased, so availability could vary by carrier and device. The October date is the release date, not proof that the watch received an October Android security patch. Contemporary reporting said the build still displayed a June 5, 2025 security patch level. Check the watch’s own software information rather than infer its patch level from the month in the announcement. The previous listed updates were in June and April 2025.

Why the watch did not get Wear OS 6
Google’s Wear OS 6 rollout notice named the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3, not the 2022 first-generation model. After the October maintenance update, the original Pixel Watch remained on Wear OS 5.1, based on Android 15.
Wear OS 6 brought a refreshed interface, including dynamic color theming, rounded fonts and icons, updated tile templates, and other updated components. Google also described features such as Google Maps auto-launch and Safety Check timer extensions. The original watch should not be expected to receive that system redesign or other features that depend on Wear OS 6. Google also announced changes to its built-in Weather experience for Wear OS 6; those should not be assumed to apply to a watch still running Wear OS 5.1 (Google’s Wear OS weather notice).

That does not mean the watch can never gain another feature. Apps, Google Play services, and server-side features can change separately from the operating system. But app updates are not a substitute for a major Wear OS upgrade, and developers may eventually require a newer version of Wear OS.

Call October 2025 the last guaranteed update in the original watch’s three-year support window—not its last update ever. The Pixel Watch launched in October 2022, putting the end of that stated window in October 2025. Google may still issue limited maintenance releases outside it: a modem update was reported in March 2026 (9to5Google’s report).

A modem or other limited firmware release does not mean regular operating-system upgrades have resumed. The practical expectation for owners should be no Wear OS 6 and no promised schedule of future major Wear OS versions, while recognizing that Google could still publish an occasional firmware, security, or compatibility fix.
How to check for the October update
- On the watch, open Settings.
- Tap System, then System updates.
- Check for an available update and follow the watch’s prompts to download and install it.
Google said eligible watches would be notified and that the rollout would take place over subsequent weeks. If the update does not appear, it may not yet be available for your device or carrier.

As an unofficial recheck, 9to5Google reported that owners could tap the “Your watch is up to date” area repeatedly on the update screen, or temporarily turn off Bluetooth so the watch checks over Wi-Fi. These are reported workarounds, not a guarantee; results can vary by region, carrier, and connection.

What owners and used-watch buyers should consider
- Keep using it if its existing functions meet your needs. The October update did not remove core watch functions, and the absence of Wear OS 6 does not by itself make the device unusable.
- Consider a newer watch if you specifically want Wear OS 6, its newer interface, or a better prospect of continued major software support. The Pixel Watch 2 and 3 received Wear OS 6, but check present availability and support expectations before buying either.
- Buy the original used only at a price that reflects its age and software outlook. It may suit someone who mainly needs notifications, basic activity tracking, and apps that still support Wear OS 5.1. It is a poor choice for someone seeking the newest system features or several more major upgrades.
For a used watch, assess battery condition, physical wear, LTE needs, compatibility with your Android phone, and whether the apps and health features you rely on still support it. Software updates to individual apps may continue, but indefinite compatibility is not guaranteed.
