Oura Labs is an opt-in hub for eligible Oura members to try experimental app features and join selected research studies. Oura announced it on April 3, 2024; it is no longer a newly launched section, and its available experiments have changed since then. As of August 12, 2026, Oura says Labs is available on iOS and Android to members with an Oura Ring Gen3 or newer, though region, language and individual eligibility rules can limit what appears.
What is Oura Labs?
Oura Labs is a section of the Oura app for provisional experiences: features still being developed, research opportunities and tools Oura may refine using member feedback. It is not one new health metric or a promise that every experiment will become a permanent part of the app.
Oura says an experiment can change, end or disappear; some features may eventually move into the regular app, but there is no guarantee. That makes Labs different from a finished, broadly released feature. Research studies are a separate category within Labs and may involve eligibility screening, consent, surveys or permission to use additional data.
Oura first announced Labs on April 3, 2024. At launch, the section was described as iOS-only, and Symptom Radar was among its early experiments. That historical restriction is outdated: Oura’s current support information lists iOS and Android access for eligible members.

Who can access it?
- Ring: Oura Ring Gen3 or newer. Gen2 and older rings are not eligible for Labs.
- Membership: An active Oura Membership is required for Gen3-and-newer access.
- Phone: iOS or Android.
- Language and location: The Labs interface is currently English-only, and experiment availability varies by region.
Meeting these conditions does not ensure access to every experiment. A particular study or feature may have its own location, age, health, data-history or enrollment limits. For U.S. members, Oura currently lists membership at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year before tax; prices and terms elsewhere can differ. A new membership includes one month with a ring purchase, according to Oura.
How to find and join an experiment
- Open the Oura app and go to the Today tab.
- Tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner, then select Oura Labs.
- Review the experiments shown under Available Features and select one.
- Read its details and follow any onboarding, eligibility or consent steps before opting in.
If Labs is missing, update the app and check that your ring is Gen3 or newer and your membership is active. Confirm that the app environment is English; Oura suggests trying an English phone language if needed, but changing it does not guarantee access. Your country or account may not qualify, or there may simply be no experiment available to you.

The inventory is changeable, and Oura’s support page is not a promise that each item is available to every member. The following examples illustrate the range of Labs offerings documented by Oura as of August 12, 2026:

- Counsel Health: Oura describes Counsel as an AI-enabled health service that combines medical AI with licensed physicians. In-app chat guidance is included with Oura Membership; on-demand access to Counsel Health doctors is an additional annual service. Check the app for current availability and terms. It is not a substitute for emergency care or a clinician who knows your circumstances.
- Oura Health Records: Listed for U.S. members, this experience lets eligible users import electronic health records from providers. Oura says records can add context to personalized insights; importing them does not establish that an insight is medically accurate or a diagnosis. Review the permissions and data-use terms before connecting records.
- Brain Health Check-In: A research study combining brief cognitive assessments with Oura data. Oura lists requirements including age 18 or older, not currently pregnant, at least three months of historical Oura data, research-study matching enabled and an invitation if eligible. It requires informed consent and may ask demographic, health, lifestyle and cognitive-function questions. Oura explicitly says it is not diagnostic and is not intended to prevent, detect, treat or monitor a medical condition.
- Trying-to-conceive research: Oura documents a U.S.-only study with an onboarding survey and four follow-up surveys over 12 months, one every three months. Participation is research, not fertility treatment, diagnosis or a promise of conception-related guidance.
Some Labs entries are time-limited. For example, Oura documented Blood Pressure Profile as a research study scheduled to end in August 2026. Because end-date details can vary across documentation, check the live app rather than assuming it remains open. Symptom Radar, highlighted at launch, monitored changes in signals including temperature trends, respiratory rate, resting heart rate and heart-rate variability; its launch-era presence is not evidence that it is still an active Labs experiment.

Opt in to research matching
For studies that use matching, the settings path is Today menu → Settings → Data Sharing → Research → Research study matching. Enabling matching can make you eligible for invitations; it does not guarantee selection or enrollment. Read each study’s consent form and data-use terms separately before participating.
How to stop testing or withdraw
- Open Oura Labs from the Today tab’s upper-left menu.
- Choose the experiment under Currently Testing.
- Scroll down and tap Stop testing or, for a study, Withdraw from study.
Oura may also end or remove an experiment. If one disappears, that can be normal rather than an app fault; Oura says participants should receive notice and an opportunity to give feedback.

Is Oura Labs worth trying?
Labs can appeal to members who want early access, are comfortable with unfinished software, or would like to contribute feedback or participate in a study. It can also be a way to explore features before deciding whether they are useful to you.

Health records, reproductive-health surveys, cognitive assessments and AI-assisted conversations deserve careful review of the specific consent and privacy terms. Participating in Labs does not automatically mean all your data is shared with researchers or other parties; the permissions depend on the particular experiment.

Do not treat experimental insights as medical advice or diagnosis. The Brain Health study expressly disclaims diagnostic use, and biometric signals alone do not replace clinical assessment. For symptoms or health decisions, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Labs is best understood as an extra for people already invested in Oura’s app and membership—not a reason to buy a ring for one specific experiment. Oura says Oura Advisor received member feedback in Labs before graduating to the main app, but that does not mean every experiment will follow the same path. If avoiding recurring fees is your priority, consider subscription-free smart rings such as RingConn; they do not provide access to Oura Labs or its research ecosystem. Check each manufacturer’s current compatibility and terms before buying.
