Yes—multiple Oura owners have reported both sudden battery drain and low-battery warnings that do not match the charge shown in the app. But the evidence does not establish a universal Oura battery defect or prove that one particular firmware update caused every case.
The symptoms fall into separate categories: a false battery estimate, genuinely rapid depletion, charging trouble, Bluetooth or synchronization problems, and ordinary battery aging. The right response depends on which pattern your ring shows.
What Oura owners are reporting
Community reports describe two different problems that can look similar.
False low-battery alerts
Some owners see an alert saying that only a few hours remain even though the app still shows more than 20% charge. Others receive a low-battery notification soon after charging, while the ring continues recording data. Battery percentages may also change sharply after the app reconnects or synchronizes.

Oura has historically acknowledged an issue involving inaccurate low-battery alerts when the ring still had sufficient charge. Its stated interim recommendation was to perform a factory reset and contact technical support. See Oura’s historical Known Issues notice.
Genuine sudden drain
Other reports describe a physical loss of runtime: a ring that previously lasted several days begins lasting only 24 to 48 hours, drops sharply overnight, stops collecting data earlier than expected, or reconnects only when placed on its charger.
Reports appear across generations, although Ring 4 appears frequently in accounts of abrupt declines from roughly five to seven days to one or two days. Generation 3 owners have also reported rapid drain and inaccurate warnings. Ring 5 reports include both normal battery performance and isolated complaints. A replacement ring showing similar behavior is worth documenting, but owner reports cannot establish a replacement-batch defect or tell us how common the problem is.

Oura’s current Known Issues page, reviewed July 16, 2026, does not visibly list a broad, open battery-drain issue. That is different from saying no one is affected: Oura has acknowledged a historical battery-reporting problem, while current complaints may have multiple causes.
Oura’s firmware history also shows that battery reporting and power consumption have previously required software work. Examples include Ring 4 firmware 2.4.1, released May 8, 2025, which included fixes related to partial battery-level reporting; version 2.5.3, released June 25, 2025, with battery-life improvements; version 2.6.2, released September 10, 2025, with power optimizations; and version 2.9.2, released December 10, 2025, with battery-life improvements.
As listed on Oura’s firmware page, the latest versions are Ring 4 version 2.12.0 from June 17, 2026, Ring 5 version 2.1.3 from June 10, 2026, and Generation 3 version 3.4.3 from April 20, 2026. Firmware releases may be distributed at different times, so owners will not necessarily be on the same version. These updates show that software can affect battery behavior, but they do not prove that a particular release caused the current reports.

How long should an Oura Ring last?
Oura lists typical battery life of:
- Oura Ring 5: six to nine days.
- Oura Ring 4: five to eight days.
- Generation 3: up to seven days.
Actual runtime varies with ring size, settings, feature configuration, activity, usage, battery age, and charge cycles. A gradual decline over months or years can be normal battery aging. A sudden fall from several days to roughly one day is more suspicious for a reporting fault, charging problem, connectivity loop, or hardware failure.
These figures are expectations, not guarantees. Oura also publishes model-specific testing assumptions for Ring 4 battery life.
Likely causes of the problem
Software or battery-estimation error
If the warning conflicts with the percentage shown in the app, the ring continues collecting data, or the number changes after synchronization, the physical battery may not be depleting as quickly as the estimate suggests. A reset can clear corrupted device state, but it cannot restore a physically degraded battery.
Firmware behavior
Battery-related fixes in Oura’s release history make firmware a plausible explanation, especially if the symptoms began after an update. It remains only a hypothesis unless Oura identifies a specific release as the cause.
Battery aging or hardware failure
A full charge that genuinely lasts less than one or two days, repeated failure to reach 100%, unusual heat, or persistent drain after software and charging checks points more strongly toward hardware. Oura does not publish a single battery lifespan that applies to every model.

A poorly seated ring, dirty contacts, damaged charger, unsuitable cable, or unstable power source can make the ring appear charged when it is not. Oura specifies an external 5V DC supply compliant with EN 62368-1 for its USB charging cord. A full charge typically takes about 20 to 80 minutes, depending on the starting level. Bluetooth or synchronization trouble
Repeated Bluetooth Low Energy disconnections, stale app data, or a ring associated with more than one phone or account can produce inconsistent readings and data gaps. This does not automatically mean the battery is defective. If the percentage changes after reconnecting, or data arrives in batches only after the ring is put on its charger, record that behavior for support.
Power-hungry usage
Oura says runtime is affected by settings, features, activity, usage, ring size, battery age, and charge cycles. Its maintenance recommendations include short charging sessions, keeping the battery generally between 25% and 80%, charging to at least 30% before bed, and using Airplane Mode temporarily when reducing Bluetooth communication is appropriate. Avoid prolonged exposure below −20°C (−4°F) or above 60°C (140°F), and do not leave the ring on its charger for more than a week.
What to do before requesting a replacement
1. Capture evidence first
Before resetting anything, record the ring generation, size, purchase date, firmware, Oura app version, phone operating system, charger, cable, and power source. Take screenshots of alerts and battery percentages, noting the time of each reading.
A useful short log includes the battery level immediately after charging, then at six, 12, and 24 hours. Also note whether the ring continues recording, disconnects from Bluetooth, or reconnects only when placed on the charger. A factory reset can remove useful diagnostic context, so preserve this information first.
2. Update the app and firmware
- Update the Oura app through your phone’s app store.
- Open the app, enable Bluetooth, and allow the ring to synchronize.
- Confirm the ring is above 30% before attempting a firmware update.
- Allow the update to complete without removing the ring from the required charging setup.
After updating, Oura recommends observing two charge cycles: charge to 100%, let the ring fall to approximately 25%, and back up data after each cycle.
3. Check the charging setup
- Confirm the ring is properly aligned on its model-specific charger.
- Inspect the ring and charger contacts for dirt or damage.
- Try another compatible cable or 5V power source where applicable.
- Check whether the ring actually reaches 100% and remains connected after charging.
- Compare a full-charge test with short top-ups.
If the problem follows one charger, cable, or power source, replace or troubleshoot that equipment before blaming the ring. Buying a new charger is not a reliable first step if the ring fails with multiple compatible setups.

4. Reconnect or soft-reset the ring
Place the ring on its charger, allow the app to synchronize, and follow Oura’s model-specific reconnection instructions. Restarting the phone or toggling Bluetooth is a low-risk diagnostic step, not a confirmed repair.

If the ring has been linked to another phone or account, use one device and account. When moving it, Oura advises performing a factory reset and removing the ring from the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
5. Factory-reset persistent false alerts
Back up your data before resetting. Oura’s published sequence is:
- Ensure a stable internet connection.
- Place the ring on its charger for a few minutes.
- Open the Oura app and wait for the latest synchronization.
- Back up data through Menu → Settings → Back up all data.
- Remove the ring from the charger and place it on a flat surface.
- Open Menu → My Devices, or tap the battery icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Factory reset.
- After the reset, leave the ring off the charger and on the flat surface for two minutes.
- Remove it from the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Pair it again.
According to Oura’s factory-reset instructions, the reset erases data stored on the ring but does not erase data already synchronized to your Oura account or Oura on the Web.
6. Test two complete cycles
Charge fully, record the starting time and percentage, wear the ring normally, and log readings at regular intervals. Check whether the low-battery warning matches the displayed charge and whether data continues recording. Repeat the test once.

If the ring returns to normal, the cause may have been corrupted device state, synchronization, or reporting. If it again lasts only one or two days, or stops collecting data prematurely, escalate the case.

When to contact Oura and request a replacement
Contact Oura support when rapid drain persists after updating, resetting, and testing another compatible charging setup. Include the order number, model and size, purchase date, firmware and app versions, screenshots, timestamps, battery log, charging details, and the troubleshooting steps already completed.
Oura’s current process begins with its virtual assistant, Finn. Depending on eligibility, Finn may troubleshoot the issue and automatically handle a replacement; it can transfer the case to a human representative when needed.
Request support immediately rather than repeatedly charging a ring that is hot, visibly swollen, scorched, cracked, or causing skin irritation. Remove it and stop testing it until Oura advises what to do.
Warranty and replacement realities
In the United States, Oura’s standard limited warranty is generally one year from purchase for new products. Certified refurbished products have a 90-day limited warranty. Local law may provide longer coverage outside the United States.
Oura’s warranty language lists consumable parts, including batteries, among standard exclusions. That does not mean every battery-related failure is automatically rejected: Oura may determine after diagnosis that a failure reflects a covered defect and approve a replacement case by case.
Approved replacements generally arrive within one to two weeks after confirmation, are normally the same model and size, and may be like-new units that have been factory-reset and tested. A replacement is not guaranteed to solve every recurring problem. Oura may disable the original ring, and a warranty replacement may be ineligible for return or refund. Review the warranty terms and information about disabled rings.
Should you replace the ring or switch products?
For an in-warranty owner, troubleshooting and Member Care should come first. Buying another ring immediately can leave you with unnecessary expense and does not establish that the original issue was hardware-related.

For an out-of-warranty owner, or someone who has received repeated replacements, weigh the reliability experience against Oura’s data ecosystem and membership model. In the United States, Oura lists membership at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year. Membership belongs to the Oura account and transfers to a replacement or upgraded ring after pairing. Without an active membership, Oura says users retain the three daily scores, battery information, basic profile information, app settings, and Explore content, but lose most detailed insights and features.
Readers who no longer want that model can investigate RingConn, Ultrahuman Ring, Samsung Galaxy Ring, or an Apple Watch. Their current prices, battery claims, compatibility, regional availability, and subscription terms should be checked on their official sites before buying. The trade-off is not simply battery life: ecosystem, phone compatibility, health features, display and notifications, and recurring fees may matter more than the ring’s brand.
