Yes—Pebble is genuinely back, but not as the original company. Eric Migicovsky, Pebble’s founder, is leading Core Devices, a small new company that recovered the Pebble trademark and rebuilt the experience around open-source PebbleOS, always-on e-paper displays, physical buttons and unusually long battery life.
This is now a real hardware revival rather than an announcement. As of August 16, 2026, the Pebble Time 2 is listed in stock and shipping within 48 hours, the Pebble Round 2 is accepting orders for September shipment, and the cheaper Pebble 2 Duo is sold out.
What “Pebble is back” actually means
The original Pebble launched on Kickstarter in 2012 and became one of the first genuinely successful smartwatches. Its company shut down in 2016; its intellectual property was sold to Fitbit, which was later acquired by Google. PebbleOS was eventually open-sourced, helping provide the technical foundation for today’s revival.
The new watches are made by Core Devices, not by the original Pebble corporation. Migicovsky is again involved as founder, but this is best understood as a founder-led brand and product reboot. Core Devices describes itself as intentionally small and focused on building devices its team wants to use, rather than pursuing the scale or feature breadth of Apple, Garmin or Samsung.

The company recovered the Pebble trademark after the first products were initially announced under the Core name. The devices once called Core Time 2 and Core 2 Duo are now the Pebble Time 2 and Pebble 2 Duo.

Pebble Time 2: the best all-round choice
The square Pebble Time 2 is the most capable of the three new watches and the easiest recommendation for someone who wants one immediately. It has a 1.5-inch color e-paper display at approximately 202 DPI, a stainless-steel and polycarbonate construction, four physical buttons and a touchscreen.
Its hardware advantage is substantial: it includes heart-rate sensing, a compass, a six-axis motion sensor, a microphone and a speaker. It tracks steps, sleep and heart rate, and supports notifications, apps, watchfaces and phone-connected controls. The advertised battery estimate is approximately 30 days, though actual life will vary with backlight use, vibration, Bluetooth behavior, watchfaces, apps and battery age.
The display technology resembles the color e-paper approach associated with the Pebble Time Steel, but this is a new design—not a perfect reproduction of the unreleased 2016 Pebble Time 2. The official product page lists a 30-meter water-resistance target. That should be treated as protection for rain, splashes and brief immersion, not a blanket guarantee for swimming or diving.
Pebble Round 2: the style-first option
The Pebble Round 2 is the more traditional-looking watch. It has a stainless-steel frame, a thin round body and a 1.3-inch color e-paper display with 260 × 260 resolution. Its display fills more of the face than the original Pebble Time Round, reducing that model’s large bezel.

It has four buttons, a touchscreen, a compass, three-axis motion sensing and a microphone. It does not include the Time 2’s heart-rate sensor or speaker. Official material gives battery estimates ranging from approximately 10 to 14 days, with usage affecting the result.

The Round 2 is the better choice if appearance and a smaller, more conventional watch shape matter more than maximum battery life or extra sensors. It is not the better choice for buyers who need immediate delivery: the current store lists September 2026 for new orders. That is a change from the original announcement, which projected shipping from May.
Pebble 2 Duo: the retro, lower-cost model
The Pebble 2 Duo is the simplest and most nostalgic option. It uses a 1.2-inch black-and-white e-paper display in a polycarbonate case, with black and white color options. Its hardware includes a barometer, compass, microphone, step tracking and sleep tracking.
At $149, it is the least expensive new Pebble. However, the official store lists it as sold out, so it should be treated as a possible future inventory option rather than a watch buyers can currently count on ordering.
What makes these watches different?
Pebble’s proposition is not maximum smartwatch functionality. It is the combination of:

- An always-on e-paper display.
- Battery life measured in days or weeks rather than roughly one day.
- Physical buttons that remain usable with wet or gloved hands.
- Simple notifications and watch functions.
- Custom watchfaces and apps.
- An open-source software foundation.
- Less reason to constantly interact with the screen.
Touch is deliberately secondary. According to the official touchscreen guidance, the screen can wake the backlight and work inside apps or watchfaces that support touch, but normal navigation remains button-driven. Menus, lists and ordinary movement through the interface are not designed around Apple Watch-style swiping.

That is either the main attraction or the main limitation. Pebble is aimed at people who want glanceable information and dependable controls, not a tiny smartphone on the wrist.
What PebbleOS and the watches can do
With a paired iPhone or Android phone, the watches can show notifications, run custom watchfaces and apps, track steps and sleep, display weather and other complications through supported software, and control some phone or music functions through compatible apps.
The official store advertises more than 15,000 apps and watchfaces across the broader Pebble ecosystem. A July 2026 update separately reported 2,120 apps and watchfaces created specifically for the Time 2 and Round 2. Those numbers describe different pools: the first includes the wider legacy ecosystem, while the second refers to newer-device creations.
Because the watches remain Bluetooth-connected companions, much of their smart functionality depends on the phone and companion software. Individual legacy apps may also need updates to work correctly with the newer screen sizes and hardware.
What these Pebbles cannot replace
These are focused smartwatches, not full-featured sports or phone-replacement watches. They are a poor fit if you require:
- Built-in GPS or cellular connectivity.
- Advanced running, cycling, triathlon or training metrics.
- The depth of health features found on Apple Watch, Garmin or Galaxy Watch.
- Apple Watch-level app interaction and notification handling.
- A fully touchscreen-first interface.
iPhone users should pay particular attention to platform restrictions. The official Pebble FAQ says third-party watches cannot send notification replies on iOS. Android behavior may be less restrictive, but exact functions depend on the phone, software version, permissions and app support.

Availability and delivery reality
The Time 2 has moved beyond the preorder-only stage. A July 14, 2026 production update said more than 23,000 units had been built and more than 80% of original preorders had been fulfilled. The official store now lists it as in stock with shipping within 48 hours, though inventory can change.

About 14,000 people had preordered it, and Core Devices said preorder shipments were targeted for completion by the end of September. New orders are listed as shipping in September. Buyers should not rely on the original May estimate and should check the order page immediately before purchasing.
The 2 Duo is currently sold out. Availability is therefore not equal across the range: the Time 2 is the practical immediate purchase, the Round 2 is a wait-and-style choice, and the 2 Duo is an inventory-dependent budget option.

Listed prices are $149 for the Pebble 2 Duo, $199 for the Round 2 and $225 for the Time 2. Optional accessories include a $10 Time 2 silicone band, a $15 charger and Round 2 leather straps costing approximately $20–$30. The watches include basic straps and chargers according to the company’s production update, so these accessories are not required to start using them.
Shipments come from an Asian warehouse via tracked courier. The company says international shipments are sent DDP, with taxes, duties and tariffs prepaid. U.S. buyers may still see an additional tariff: the company’s pages cite figures of roughly $10–$12 per watch, depending on the page or model-specific update. The delivered price may therefore differ from the headline price.

The written warranty covers manufacturing defects for only 30 days after receipt. If the company accepts the claim, the buyer must return the defective watch; after receiving it, Core Devices says it will ship a replacement at no charge.
A July update said support had provided free replacements with worldwide shipping in some cases outside the stated warranty. That is a reported support practice, not a formal extension of the written warranty and not something buyers should assume will apply to every future claim.
For a $199–$225 watch, the short warranty is unusually important. Buyers who want established retail support or long-term repair coverage should consider waiting or choosing a larger platform.
Battery, water and software caveats
Battery estimates are not guarantees
The Time 2’s approximately 30-day figure and the Round 2’s approximately 10–14-day figure depend on usage. Backlight operation, vibration, Bluetooth behavior, watchfaces, apps and battery aging can reduce endurance. Developer documentation also warns that typical-use figures may decline as batteries age or when power-intensive software is used.
The official help center includes a Round 2 recovery and battery-aging procedure for watches experiencing battery-life problems. It requires the watch to boot fully into PebbleOS, connect to the Pebble mobile app and remain connected through a multistage charging and discharging test. That indicates owners may encounter calibration, recovery or firmware-related battery issues; it does not establish a failure rate.
Water resistance can decline
The newer watches are presented with a 30-meter water-resistance target. Seals can weaken through age, wear or repair, so the safer interpretation is rain, splashes and brief immersion. Do not treat the specification alone as permission for swimming, diving or repeated water exposure.
Which Pebble should you buy?
- Choose the Pebble Time 2 if you want the best battery estimate, a larger square display, heart-rate sensing, a speaker and the model currently listed as immediately available.
- Choose the Pebble Round 2 if you value a thin, traditional round watch with a stainless-steel frame and can wait for the September shipping estimate. Accept the shorter battery estimate and lack of heart-rate sensor and speaker.
- Choose the Pebble 2 Duo if it returns to stock if you want the cheapest and most retro design and do not need color, a touchscreen or heart-rate tracking.
- Wait or choose another category if you need GPS, cellular service, serious sports tracking, deep health features, immediate guaranteed retail availability or a long warranty.
Verdict: a real revival with a deliberately narrow mission
Pebble is genuinely back in product terms. The Time 2 is shipping, the Round 2 is in production, the Pebble 2 Duo exists as a lower-cost model, and PebbleOS has an active app and watchface ecosystem.
But this is not the original company resurrected, and it is not an Apple Watch competitor in the conventional sense. Core Devices is a small, founder-led hardware company offering a focused alternative: e-paper, buttons, simple notifications and long battery life. For former Pebble owners and buyers tired of daily charging, that focus is the point. For anyone expecting GPS, advanced fitness, cellular connectivity or a long warranty, it is the reason to look elsewhere.
