The Pebble Round 2 is a real $199 smartwatch, but it is not a normal retail launch yet. Announced on January 2, 2026, it combines a 1.3-inch, 64-color e-paper display, physical buttons, touchscreen support and a manufacturer-estimated 10–14-day battery life. Pebble originally targeted May shipping; its latest update moved new-order shipping to September 2026 and said existing pre-orders were expected to be completed by the end of September.
That makes the Round 2 appealing to battery-first Pebble fans, but a poor choice for anyone who needs GPS, heart-rate monitoring, calls from the wrist or immediate delivery.
What the Pebble Round 2 is
The Round 2 is Pebble’s modern successor to the company’s 2015 Pebble Time Round. Its purpose is deliberately narrow: provide an always-on, glanceable watch with long endurance, tactile controls and a customizable software platform rather than imitate an Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch.

Pebble says the new design addresses the original Time Round’s large bezel and relatively short battery life. The result is a stainless-steel, 8.1 mm-thick case weighing 26.8 g without a strap. It uses four physical buttons as its primary controls, with a touchscreen available for selected functions.

PebbleOS and the Pebble mobile app are open source, and Pebble says its Appstore now contains more than 15,000 apps and watchfaces. That is the company’s ecosystem count, not a promise that every older app is optimized for the Round 2’s circular color display.

Pebble’s official product page is the authoritative specification source. Some secondary reports quote 283 DPI, but that conflicts with Pebble’s listed 260 × 260 resolution and 200 DPI figure. The official 200 DPI specification is the one to use.
What color e-paper looks like in daily use
The Round 2’s panel is reflective e-paper, not an OLED or LCD. It is designed to remain visible without continuously emitting light, which supports Pebble’s always-on approach and helps reduce power consumption. A backlight is available in darkness.

“Color” here means a limited palette of 64 colors. Expect lower saturation, different contrast and less fluid animation than on an Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch. E-paper is excellent for static watchfaces, text and quick glances; it is not intended to deliver high-refresh, phone-like graphics.
Battery life still depends on usage. Bluetooth activity, frequent screen updates, backlight use, microphone activity, demanding apps and battery aging can all reduce runtime. Pebble’s technical documentation gives an estimate of 10–14 days, not a guaranteed or independently tested result. See the developer hardware reference for the manufacturer’s details.
Buttons first, touchscreen second
The Round 2 should not be treated as a conventional swipe-first smartwatch. According to Pebble’s touch documentation, touch is mainly used to wake the backlight and to control apps or watchfaces that explicitly support touch.
Menus, list selection and scrolling remain button-driven. That is useful for users who prefer tactile feedback, gloves or wet hands, and it reduces accidental touches. It can feel unfamiliar if your expectation is to swipe through every screen.

What it can do
- Show notifications from a paired iPhone or Android phone.
- Run watchfaces and watchapps from the Pebble Appstore.
- Count steps and track sleep.
- Accept voice input through its microphone.
- Support voice replies and assistant interactions where the phone platform and software support them.
- Provide button-based navigation, alarms and extensive watchface customization.
- Support open-source PebbleOS and developer tools for community-created software.
Individual apps may need updates for the circular display, 64-color graphics or touch controls. An Appstore listing that explicitly identifies Round 2 support is a better compatibility signal than the overall 15,000-item count.
What it cannot do
The Round 2’s omissions are central to the buying decision. It has no heart-rate sensor, ECG, blood-oxygen sensor or built-in GPS listed in the official specifications. Health tracking is limited to basic steps and sleep functions.
There is no speaker, so it is not a wrist-based calling device. You should not expect Apple Watch-style call handling, rich messaging, advanced sports metrics or a full medical/wellness sensor suite. The touchscreen is also not a general-purpose navigation replacement for the buttons.

The Round 2 works with both iOS and Android through the Pebble app, but feature parity is incomplete. Pebble identified message replies as Android-only at announcement, and its July update said it was still working toward notification replies for iPhone users in the European Union.

Platform behavior can also vary by operating-system permissions and region, so “works with iPhone and Android” should not be read as “all features work the same on both.”

Pebble announced the Round 2 on January 2, 2026 at $199 and originally said shipping would begin in May. That target slipped because of a cosmetic problem involving an extra indentation in the stainless-steel bottom case.
In its July 14 production update, Pebble said the factory had received a revised case, that environmental and drop testing was under way, and that mass production was planned for the last week of July. The company reported roughly 14,000 pre-orders and said it expected to finish shipping them by the end of September.
As of the current official product page, new orders are scheduled to ship in September 2026. That is a shipping signal, not proof that every color or configuration is immediately in stock.

Choose the Round 2 for its circular, dressier profile, lower price and button-focused minimalist experience. Choose the Time 2 if faster fulfillment, a speaker, heart-rate tracking, a larger display or the longer claimed battery estimate matters more.
Important ownership caveats
Water resistance
Pebble describes 30 m water resistance as a target for new, sealed hardware. Resistance can decline with age, impact or repairs. Treat it as splash protection unless Pebble provides stronger activity guidance; do not assume it is suitable for swimming or diving.
Straps
The watch uses either 14 mm or 20 mm bands, depending on the variant. Match the replacement strap width exactly. Standard quick-release bands of the correct width can be used.
Battery troubleshooting
If battery performance is abnormal, use Pebble’s official Round 2 recovery-firmware and aging-test guide rather than unofficial firmware procedures.
Support and delayed orders
Pre-order customers should not rely on the old May estimate. For shipping, returns, account or order problems, contact Pebble through its Help Center and support channels. Software bugs can be reported from the app with technical information attached.
Who should buy the Round 2?
It is a strong fit for:
- Former Pebble owners who miss buttons, glanceable notifications and watchface customization.
- People tired of charging a smartwatch every day.
- Minimalists who mainly need notifications, alarms, basic activity data and simple apps.
- Developers and enthusiasts interested in open-source wearable software.
- Buyers comfortable waiting for September delivery and accepting evolving software.
It is a poor fit for:
- Runners, cyclists and athletes who need GPS, heart-rate data or training analysis.
- Anyone who wants wrist calls, a speaker or rich messaging.
- Buyers requiring medical or advanced wellness sensors.
- People who expect a bright, high-refresh OLED display.
- Anyone who needs a watch immediately.
Bottom line
The Pebble Round 2 is a focused alternative to mainstream smartwatches, not a feature-for-feature replacement. Its case for buying is clear: always-on 64-color e-paper, tactile buttons, open-source customization and a claimed 10–14-day battery life for $199. The compromises are equally clear: no heart-rate sensor, GPS, speaker or direct calling, limited sports tracking, uneven iPhone reply support and a delayed rollout.
If those trade-offs match your priorities, the Round 2 is one of the few modern watches built around battery life and simplicity. If you need health sensors or fast delivery, the Pebble Time 2 is the more practical official alternative.
