Pebble’s smartwatch comeback is already underway. As of the August 16, 2026 availability snapshot, the Pebble Time 2 was listed in stock and shipping within 48 hours, the black-and-white Pebble 2 Duo was sold out, and the round Pebble Round 2 was taking orders for September shipping. This is a real return of the brand and its watches—but a small, staged reboot, not the restoration of the original company or a mainstream rival to Apple Watch.
The revived watches keep Pebble’s signature strengths: always-on e-paper screens, physical buttons, simple notifications and battery life measured in weeks. They deliberately give up built-in GPS, advanced fitness tools and a large commercial app platform. Whether one is worth buying depends less on how many features it has than on whether you want a simpler watch that rarely needs charging.

What happened to Pebble?
The original Pebble became one of the early breakout smartwatches after launching on Kickstarter in 2012. Its appeal was practical rather than flashy: an easy-to-read, low-power e-paper screen that stayed on, physical buttons, phone notifications and battery life far beyond the daily-charge routine. A large community built watchfaces and apps around it.

The original company shut down in 2016 and sold its intellectual property to Fitbit, which was later acquired by Google. That history matters: today’s Pebble is not the same company reopening under its old corporate structure. The founder is bringing back the brand and product line, building on PebbleOS and a community ecosystem that continued through Rebble. The operating system was later open-sourced, making it easier for developers and a new hardware effort to carry the platform forward.
Who is bringing Pebble back?
Original founder Eric Migicovsky is leading the revival through Core Devices; rePebble is the consumer-facing brand and store. The operation is intentionally small and community-oriented, rather than a conventional high-growth smartwatch company. Its early Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 names were later presented as Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2—the same product lineages, not additional generations.
A small team and staged production help explain why availability is uneven and why some watches are preorder-led. They also make it especially important to treat delivery estimates as estimates, not guarantees. In July 2026, the company said more than 23,000 Time 2 units had been built and more than 80% of its preorders fulfilled; it reported about 14,000 Round 2 preorders. Those are company-reported figures, not an independent audit. The July production and software update gives the latest context in the supplied snapshot.

Specifications, prices and store status come from the official product pages; battery figures and production progress come from the company’s July update. Battery numbers are company estimates or reported medians, not independent test results. Real use—including backlight use, animated watchfaces, vibration and health tracking—can change runtime.
The Round 2 is listed with a 1.3-inch, 260 × 260-pixel display at 200 DPI, an approximately 8.1mm-thick case and a weight of 26.8 grams without its strap. Its estimated battery life is two weeks. The 30-meter water-resistance figure is a target for this model, not permission to dive or expose it to hot or high-pressure water. The Time 2 has a listed 30-meter rating; that, too, is not a diving rating. The company warns against diving, prolonged exposure, hot water and high-pressure water.
What PebbleOS does—and what open source means here
PebbleOS keeps the watch focused on the glanceable tasks Pebble was known for: always-on watchfaces, phone notifications, physical-button navigation, watchface customization, simple utilities and music controls. The revived models add basic step and sleep tracking, with heart-rate tracking on the Time 2. Companion apps are available for iPhone and Android, and developers have access to an SDK and a web-accessible app store.

The ecosystem is active, but the headline numbers describe different catalogs. The rePebble site advertises more than 15,000 apps and watchfaces across the broader Pebble ecosystem. In July, the company separately counted 2,120 apps and watchfaces created specifically for the Time 2 and Round 2. Those figures are not competing estimates of one identical collection.

Open source is a meaningful advantage for preservation and experimentation, not a promise that every component is open or that every service will last indefinitely. Old Pebble owners may be able to use revived apps and software, but compatibility depends on the particular watch, app, phone and service. Do not assume every historical feature or cloud connection still works.
What Pebble still does not do
- No built-in GPS is listed for these revived models. They are not the right choice for recording runs or rides without a phone.
- Fitness and health tracking are basic. Steps, sleep and, on Time 2, heart rate do not amount to the training, navigation or analysis offered by dedicated sports watches.
- No broad cellular smartwatch platform. Pebble is not designed to replace a phone on your wrist.
- Notification interaction varies by phone. The watches work with iPhone and Android, but third-party watches cannot generally match Apple Watch’s ability to reply to notifications on iOS because of Apple platform restrictions. That is a platform limitation, not simply a Pebble hardware defect.
- The app catalog is community-driven. It offers variety and a distinctive DIY character, but it is smaller and less centrally supported than Apple’s or Google’s commercial ecosystems.
Pebble itself points people who need serious running, cycling, triathlon or advanced fitness features toward Garmin-class devices. Its product FAQ is also candid about the limits of matching Apple Watch integration on iPhone.

Is this comeback really happening?
Yes, in the concrete sense that the reboot has moved past concept announcements: the Time 2 entered mass production, the company reported substantial production and preorder fulfillment, Round 2 had thousands of preorders, and the software and developer ecosystem are receiving updates. The Time 2 was listed for sale as in stock in the August 2026 snapshot. This is more than a promise to make a watch someday.
But success has limits. The Duo was sold out, Round 2 remained in staged preorder fulfillment, and production is not at the scale or certainty of a mass-market smartwatch line. The company’s official warranty is 30 days for manufacturing defects—shorter than many buyers may expect for consumer electronics. A small, active ecosystem is encouraging, but it cannot guarantee the parts supply, support capacity or long-term service continuity of Apple, Samsung or Garmin. Check the current product and warranty details before ordering.

These watches serve different priorities; a feature-count contest misses the point.
- Choose Pebble over Apple Watch if you value multi-week battery life, physical buttons, an always-on e-paper display and a deliberately quieter experience more than deep iPhone integration, health features, apps, payments and safety tools. - Choose Garmin over Pebble for GPS, serious running or cycling, multisport training and richer athletic metrics. Garmin is more fitness-oriented; Pebble is a simpler notification-and-watchface watch. See Garmin wearables.
- Choose Samsung Galaxy Watch over Pebble if you use Android and want a conventional, feature-rich smartwatch with deeper app, health and Google/Samsung integration. Pebble is the less demanding, less phone-like option. See Samsung watches.
Which Pebble should you buy?
Pebble 2 Duo: for the classic experience
At $149, the Duo is the simplest and least expensive of the three, with a black-and-white screen and the strongest reported battery figure. It suits former Pebble fans and people who value long runtime over a color display or heart-rate sensor. It was sold out in the snapshot, so it is a wait-for-restock choice rather than an immediate purchase.
Pebble Time 2: for the most capable option
The $225 Time 2 is the easiest recommendation if you want a revived Pebble now: it has the largest display, color, a heart-rate sensor, speaker and the broadest set of listed hardware features, and was listed in stock. Buy it for Pebble’s low-distraction approach, not as a substitute for a GPS sports watch or a full-featured Apple or Samsung watch.
Pebble Round 2: for style and thinness
The $199 Round 2 is the distinctive choice if a round steel case and slim profile matter more than heart-rate tracking or immediate delivery. New orders were listed for September shipping in the snapshot. Treat that date as a company estimate, particularly while earlier orders are being fulfilled in batches.

- Recheck stock and delivery timing. Store status can change; preorder windows and fulfillment dates are estimates.
- Read the warranty terms. The listed policy covers manufacturing defects for 30 days.
- Check the full landed cost. Prices are listed in U.S. dollars. Taxes, duties or tariffs depend on destination and may be confirmed through the shipping process; verify the checkout total for your country.
- Be realistic about water use. A 30-meter figure is not a dive rating. Avoid hot water, high pressure and prolonged exposure.
- Check phone-specific behavior. Notifications and available actions differ between iOS and Android, especially for replying on iPhone.
For a multi-week, always-on watch with buttons and a strong community identity, Pebble’s return is genuine and unusually appealing. For fitness, phone integration or predictable mass-market support, it is still the wrong tool—and the company’s small scale is part of the buying decision, not a footnote.
