Yes, Pebble is back—but not as the original 2016 company. Core Devices, led by Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky, is selling the Pebble Time 2: a $225 smartwatch with a 1.5-inch, 64-color e-paper display, physical buttons, PebbleOS, and battery life designed to last far longer than a typical Apple Watch or Wear OS watch.
The important qualification is battery life. Pebble advertises up to 30 days, but its production update reported approximately 14 days on the current PebbleOS version. The Time 2 is also deliberately limited: it has no GPS, LTE, payments, advanced sports features, or Apple Watch-style iPhone integration.
What is the Pebble Time 2?
The Pebble Time 2 is a new Pebble-branded smartwatch from Core Devices, the company founded by original Pebble creator Eric Migicovsky. It follows the design philosophy of the Pebble Time and Time Steel more closely than the original monochrome Pebble: a color display, stainless-steel construction, physical buttons, watchfaces, apps, and an always-on screen.

It is best described as a spiritual successor, not a continuation of the original Pebble company. Pebble launched on Kickstarter in 2012, but the original company shut down in 2016 after its intellectual property was sold to Fitbit. Core Devices later open-sourced PebbleOS, recovered the Pebble trademark, and moved the new watch from its earlier “Core Time 2” branding to Pebble Time 2.
The new watch is part of a broader revival that also includes the monochrome Pebble 2 Duo and the round Pebble Round 2.
Is the Pebble Time 2 available to buy?
It is beyond the announcement and preorder stage. The watches were announced in March 2025, entered mass production in March 2026, and Pebble reported building more than 23,000 Time 2 units by July 2026.
As of the official-store snapshot checked on August 16, 2026, the Time 2 was listed as in stock for $225, with shipping within 48 hours. Pebble’s July update said it was completing remaining preorders, although some color or size variants could slip into September. Availability and shipping estimates are volatile, so check the official Pebble store before ordering.

What does “colorful” mean here?
The Time 2 does not use the bright OLED panel found on most current premium smartwatches. Its display is a 64-color e-paper screen. Color appears in watchfaces, menus, graphics, and the RGB LED backlight, but the screen is optimized for readability and low power rather than saturation, fast animation, or high-resolution visuals.

The official color combinations are:
- Black/grey
- Black/red
- Silver/blue
- Silver/grey
E-paper makes the watch feel closer to a glanceable digital watch than a miniature phone. It can remain visible without constantly refreshing or emitting light, but transitions and animations are less fluid than on OLED.
What can the Time 2 do?
- Display phone notifications
- Run watchfaces and third-party apps
- Show calendar and timeline information
- Set alarms and timers
- Track steps, sleep, and heart rate
- Control music and other media
- Use microphone-based voice input and dictation
- Provide audible alerts through its speaker
- Deliver vibration alerts
The combination of buttons and touchscreen is significant. The four physical buttons preserve the tactile interaction that made Pebble popular, while touch can make newer apps easier to operate. Examples in the Pebble Appstore include Time 2-compatible apps using the touchscreen, microphone, and speaker.
PebbleOS is open source, which gives the platform a different character from closed smartwatch ecosystems. That does not mean every service, app, or hardware feature is guaranteed to remain available indefinitely; the experience still depends on Pebble’s companion apps, developers, and ongoing software support.
Battery life: 30 days is an estimate, not a promise
The headline figure is up to 30 days, but buyers should use the current production figure—approximately 14 days on the current PebbleOS version—as the more cautious expectation.
Those figures are not necessarily contradictory. Battery life can change with software optimization and usage. Screen refreshes, complex watchfaces, app activity, notifications, heart-rate monitoring, speaker and microphone use, battery age, and software version all affect runtime. Pebble’s documentation also notes that rated battery life applies to new hardware under typical conditions and declines with heavy use and aging.

This is still substantially less charging overhead than most full-featured smartwatches, but buyers should not purchase the Time 2 assuming they will immediately get a month between charges.

Water resistance is not a dive rating
The Time 2 is rated at 30 m / 3 ATM. Pebble says it is intended for brief exposure such as rain, hand washing, bathing, swimming, paddling, and sailing.
Do not treat that rating as permission to dive or expose the watch to hot tubs, hot water, prolonged immersion, or high-pressure water such as a direct shower spray. Water resistance applies to new, sealed hardware and can deteriorate with age or after repairs.
What it cannot replace
The Time 2 is not an Apple Watch replacement in the feature-count sense. It has no cellular connection and is not designed for standalone communication. Its speaker supports sounds and app experiences, but Pebble says users will not be able to take phone calls on the watch.

The Time 2 is therefore better for glanceable information than for deep two-way messaging.
It also lacks the built-in GPS, mapping, navigation, payments, emergency features, and advanced training ecosystem found on many Apple, Garmin, Samsung, and Google watches. Heart-rate, step, and sleep tracking make it more capable than the original Pebble, but it is not designed to be a dedicated sports watch.

The Time 2’s hardware arrived while some software capabilities were still being enabled or refined. Pebble’s production update indicated that speaker support was not initially complete, the second microphone was intended for future environmental-noise cancellation, and the four-week battery target was not yet reflected in current software.

That creates an important distinction between hardware capability and the features available on a buyer’s current watch and app version. Buyers comfortable with an evolving platform may see this as the point of a community-supported revival. Anyone wanting a fully mature product on day one should treat it as a meaningful risk.

Choose the Time 2 if you want the largest display and fullest feature set. Choose the Round 2 if appearance and a round case matter more than health and audio features. Choose the Pebble 2 Duo if monochrome simplicity and lower price matter most—but only when it is available.
How it compares with Apple Watch, Garmin, and Wear OS
- Apple Watch: Better for iPhone integration, messaging, payments, safety features, health tools, and apps. Pebble is better for long battery life, buttons, simplicity, and a low-distraction experience.
- Garmin: Better for runners, cyclists, hikers, GPS routes, training metrics, navigation, and outdoor use. The Time 2 is simpler and more focused on notifications and everyday glanceability.
- Wear OS watches: Better for Android services, Google features, payments, voice functions, and conventional smartwatch apps. The Time 2 generally offers a less complex experience and much longer intended battery life.
The right comparison is therefore about priorities, not a universal winner. The Time 2 trades ecosystem depth and sensor sophistication for low charging frequency and a calmer interface.
Who should buy the Pebble Time 2?
It is a good fit for former Pebble owners, people who dislike daily charging, users who prefer physical buttons, and buyers who want notifications, alarms, watchfaces, and basic health tracking without an app-saturated smartwatch.
It is a poor fit for serious runners or cyclists, anyone requiring built-in GPS or LTE, buyers who need payments or emergency calling, and people who expect Apple Watch-level iPhone integration. It is also a questionable choice for anyone who prioritizes a long conventional warranty: the official store lists only a 30-day manufacturing-defect warranty, generally requiring the customer to ship a defective watch back before replacement.
Before buying, ask whether approximately 14 days of current battery life is acceptable, whether you need GPS or cellular connectivity, whether the current app ecosystem covers your needs, and whether you are comfortable buying hardware whose software is still being polished.
Bottom line
The Pebble Time 2 is a genuine Pebble revival and the clearest modern successor to the brand’s color smartwatch tradition. Its appeal is not that it matches an Apple Watch feature for feature. Its appeal is that it offers an always-on color e-paper display, physical controls, open-source PebbleOS, customization, and far less charging.
Buy it if those priorities matter more than GPS, LTE, advanced fitness data, payments, and a broad smartwatch ecosystem. Avoid it if you want the most capable or most mature smartwatch available.
