The August 7, 2024 Pixel Watch 3 leak was substantially accurate. Google’s watch launched with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform, Cortex-M33 co-processor, 2GB of SDRAM and 32GB of eMMC storage as the Pixel Watch 2. It also confirmed the headline-grabbing 1–60Hz display—but that means an adaptive refresh-rate range, not a screen permanently locked to 1Hz or 60Hz.
The meaningful changes were the new 45mm size, larger active display areas, slimmer bezels, up to 2,000-nit peak brightness, faster charging and new Wear OS and health features.
What the leak got right
On August 7, 2024, 9to5Google reported leaked Pixel Watch 3 specifications, including the processor, memory, storage, battery capacities and display refresh-rate range. Google announced the watch on August 13, 2024, with retail availability scheduled for September 10.
Google’s official specifications later confirmed the central claims:

These figures are listed in Google’s Pixel Watch specifications. The leak should be treated as a pre-launch report, while Google’s support page is the authoritative confirmation.
Was the Pixel Watch 3 processor unchanged?
Yes. The Pixel Watch 3 uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform and Cortex-M33 co-processor listed for the Pixel Watch 2.
That makes “same chip” a useful shorthand, but not a description of the entire watch. The Pixel Watch 3 has different display hardware, battery capacities, charging behavior and software. It launched with Wear OS 5 and introduced new running, health and safety features despite retaining the Pixel Watch 2’s core silicon.

Google did not introduce a newer main processor in this generation. Responsiveness can still differ because of software optimization, background-process management, storage behavior and display power management, but the processor specification itself did not change.
Were RAM and storage also the same?
Yes. Both generations list 2GB of SDRAM and 32GB of eMMC flash storage.
The unchanged RAM figure means the Pixel Watch 3 was not a major memory upgrade over the Pixel Watch 2. However, RAM capacity alone does not determine how smooth a smartwatch feels. Wear OS version, app behavior and Google’s system optimization also matter.
The 32GB storage figure should not be read as 32GB of free user space. The operating system and preinstalled software use part of that capacity. The remaining storage is shared by apps, offline music, watch faces, system data and other content.

The Pixel Watch 3’s “1–60Hz” specification describes an adaptive refresh-rate range. It does not mean that users select either 1Hz or 60Hz, and it does not mean that every screen constantly runs at 60Hz.
When the display is showing movement, such as scrolling, animations or transitions, it can use a higher refresh rate for smoother motion. When the screen is static or displaying limited information, it can reduce the refresh rate to save power. Google specifically describes the display as being able to drop from 60Hz to 1Hz during always-on-display operation.
Google also notes that the responsive-display feature is not available for all apps or content. The watch dynamically manages refresh behavior; buyers should not assume that every third-party app reaches 60Hz or uses the full 1–60Hz range.

The display is an AMOLED LTPO panel with 320 pixels per inch, DCI-P3 color, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, a 1-nit minimum brightness and up to 2,000 nits peak brightness. The 2,000-nit figure is a peak rating, not a promise of sustained brightness in every condition.
What actually changed from the Pixel Watch 2?
A new 45mm size
The Pixel Watch 3 introduced a 45mm case alongside the 41mm model. The 45mm version provides approximately 40% more active display area than the Pixel Watch 2, while Google says the 41mm version provides approximately 10% more.
Those figures refer to display area, not a claim that the watch body is 40% larger. The larger screen comes from the new size and slimmer bezels. The 41mm model remains closer to the previous generation’s overall footprint, while the 45mm model is the major size expansion.
A brighter display
Google says the Pixel Watch 3 displays are twice as bright as those on the Pixel Watch 2, with peak brightness reaching 2,000 nits. That should make the watch easier to read outdoors, although peak brightness is not the same as sustained brightness during every use case.
Different battery capacities
The 41mm Pixel Watch 3 has a 307mAh typical battery, while the 45mm model has a 420mAh typical battery. The pre-launch leak reported those same capacities.
Despite the larger battery in the 45mm model, Google gives both sizes the same official rating: up to 24 hours with the always-on display enabled, or up to 36 hours in Battery Saver mode.
Those are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed runtimes. LTE use, GPS workouts, notifications, health tracking, display settings, temperature and software activity can all affect battery life.
Faster charging
Charging is one of the clearest practical improvements:

Both versions use the Pixel Watch 3 USB-C fast-charging cable. Google says that charger is compatible with the Pixel Watch 2, but the Pixel Watch 3 cable is not the same physical charging design used by the first-generation Pixel Watch.

Both cases are 12.3mm high and use an aluminum housing with a fluoroelastomer Active Band and soft-touch coating. The 41mm model weighs 31g without the band; the 45mm model weighs 37g.

Band fit differs by size:
- 41mm: small band for 130–175mm wrists; large band for 165–210mm wrists.
- 45mm: small band for 150–185mm wrists; large band for 165–215mm wrists.
The 45mm model is the better choice for larger text and controls, but the 41mm version is lighter and more compact. A larger case does not automatically mean better comfort, particularly during sleep tracking or exercise.

Pixel Watch 3 configurations include Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE versions. Listed connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, Ultra-Wideband and satellite positioning through GPS, Galileo and GLONASS in the United States, with additional systems available in some other regions.
LTE can support calls, messages and connected features away from the phone, which is useful for runs or other situations where carrying a phone is inconvenient. It requires a separate compatible wireless-service plan, however. Google also notes that full talk, text and data functionality requires the watch and Android companion device to use the same carrier network, subject to regional and carrier restrictions. Check compatibility before choosing the LTE model.

Software and health features
The Pixel Watch 3 launched with Wear OS 5 and added features that are not captured by the processor, RAM or storage table. Google highlighted:
- Workout Builder
- Running guidance and advanced running metrics
- Running-form analysis
- Improved heart-rate tracking for running
- Automatic sleep detection and Bedtime Mode
- Loss of Pulse Detection in supported markets and circumstances
Loss of Pulse Detection is a safety feature, not a medical diagnostic system or a replacement for emergency services. Availability depends on country, regulatory approval, software, connectivity and account conditions. Google also announced six months of Fitbit Premium with the watch at launch; subscription terms and pricing can change.
Pixel Watch 3 41mm versus 45mm

Google’s official battery-life estimate is the same for both sizes, so the 45mm model’s larger battery should not be interpreted as a guaranteed extra day of use.
Is the Pixel Watch 3 a worthwhile upgrade from the Pixel Watch 2?
The upgrade case is strongest for Pixel Watch 2 owners who want a larger 45mm option, a brighter display, slimmer bezels, more usable screen area, faster charging or the new running and health features. The adaptive LTPO display can also improve power management in suitable display states.
The case is weaker for anyone whose main reason to upgrade is a newer processor, more RAM or more storage. Those core specifications remained unchanged. In that sense, the Pixel Watch 3 is not a traditional performance-generation upgrade; it is a display, size, charging and software upgrade built around the same core platform.
Launch prices and availability
Google’s US launch prices, announced on August 13, 2024, were:
- 41mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi: $349.99
- 41mm LTE: $449.99
- 45mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi: $399.99
- 45mm LTE: $499.99
These are historical US launch prices, not current August 2026 prices. For product specifications, see the official Pixel Watch 3 product page and Google’s technical specifications page. LTE buyers should also verify current carrier availability and plan requirements.
Verdict
The Pixel Watch 3 leak was right about the specifications most likely to concern Pixel Watch 2 owners: the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and the 1–60Hz display range all carried through to the final product. But “same chip” does not mean “same watch.” The meaningful improvements were the brighter and larger displays, new 45mm size, adaptive refresh behavior, faster charging and expanded software and health features.
