Yes—the Pixel Watch 4 is substantially easier to open and service than earlier Pixel Watch models. Google redesigned the access architecture around screws, seals, and modular components, then published repair manuals for both the 41mm and 45mm versions. iFixit gave it a provisional 9/10 repairability rating, calling it the most repairable smartwatch it had evaluated.
That does not make the watch risk-free or casually user-serviceable. Repairs still require specialized tools, replacement fasteners and seals, careful connector handling, and post-repair testing. Opening the case can also compromise water resistance if the sealing system is not correctly restored and tested.
The short version
- The Pixel Watch 4 is no longer a glue-heavy, destructive teardown.
- Access screws sit beneath the band attachment area, and the enclosure uses mechanical fasteners and O-rings.
- Google published separate repair manuals for the 41mm and 45mm models.
- Battery, display, back sensor glass, and vibration-motor repairs have documented procedures or guides.
- LTE and Wi-Fi versions are not internally identical, and 41mm and 45mm parts should not be assumed interchangeable.
- DIY repair remains a precision electronics job, not a simple two-screw fix.
What changed inside the Pixel Watch 4?
The important change is not merely that Google released documentation. The watch itself was designed to be opened in a less destructive way.
According to iFixit’s teardown, the Pixel Watch 4 can be accessed through screws located beneath the band attachment area. Earlier smartwatch designs often rely heavily on adhesive, making entry difficult and increasing the chance of damaging the rear cover, display, or internal cables.

The Pixel Watch 4 instead combines accessible mechanical fasteners with O-rings and other sealing components. That gives technicians a more controlled path into the enclosure and makes battery and display access considerably more practical.
Its internal layout is also more service-oriented. Components are identified individually, and Google’s repair workflow separates disassembly, assembly, troubleshooting, software procedures, and testing. Some parts may be reused, some must be cleaned before reuse, and others are treated as non-reusable once removed.
That is a meaningful repairability improvement—but it does not mean every component is equally easy to replace.

What iFixit actually found
iFixit’s October 10, 2025 teardown demonstrated that the watch is no longer a “destroy the back to get inside” product. Once the relevant band components are removed, the access screws can be reached and the housing can be opened using the specified procedure.
The teardown also found:
- Less dependence on destructive adhesive for initial access.
- O-rings and seals intended to support enclosure sealing.
- Internal modules arranged with repair access in mind.
- Published procedures for replacing the battery and display.
- A repairability score of 9/10.
The score belongs to iFixit. It is a provisional editorial assessment, not a Google certification or a universal industry standard. “Most repairable smartwatch on the market” is likewise iFixit’s characterization of its evaluation, not an independently verified ranking of every smartwatch available worldwide.
Google’s official Pixel Watch 4 repair manuals
Google supplied separate service manuals for:
- Pixel Watch 4 (41mm)
- Pixel Watch 4 (45mm)
The indexed 41mm document is titled Pixel Watch 4 (41mm) repair manual, identifies itself as a Google 2025 manual, and includes a version 1.1 date of September 2025. The manuals are Google documents distributed through a CDN surfaced by iFixit; Google’s repair-support page remains the authoritative starting point for official service.
The manuals cover:
- Safety precautions and repair terminology.
- Introduction and component identification.
- Disassembly and assembly flows.
- Troubleshooting and functional testing.
- Software-related repair procedures.
- Part reuse, cleaning, replacement, and sealing guidance.
iFixit notes that the manuals do not include schematics. They are therefore useful service documents, but they are not a complete disclosure package for board-level electronics diagnosis or component-level logic-board repair.

What tools and precautions does the manual require?
The documented process is more demanding than the phrase “easy teardown” suggests. The manual lists or calls for equipment including:
- Torx Plus 2IP screwdriver head.
- ESD tweezers.
- ESD spudger.
- Isopropyl alcohol.
- ESD gloves.
- Dust-free cotton swabs and cloth.
- A clean, controlled work area.
Before opening the watch, the manual repeatedly emphasizes powering it off and disconnecting the charger. During the repair, the technician must protect flex cables and connector contacts, keep screws and sharp tools away from the battery, avoid touching or puncturing the cell, and prevent contamination of sealing surfaces.
Specified screws should be replaced rather than reused where the manual identifies them as non-reusable. O-rings and other sealing components must be removed, cleaned, replaced, or reinstalled according to the relevant procedure.
Which Pixel Watch 4 components can be replaced?
Battery
The battery procedure is one of the clearest examples of the new serviceability. The manual says to remove the vibrator first, remove two battery screws with a Torx Plus 2IP driver, disconnect the battery connector using a plastic spudger, and lift the battery out by hand.
It specifically warns against sharp objects and loose screws near the battery. Installing a new battery after removal is recommended as a safety measure. A swollen, punctured, crushed, or otherwise damaged battery should not be treated as a normal DIY replacement. Stop work and use an appropriate professional battery-repair or hazardous-device channel.

Display
The display is replaceable in principle, but it is a higher-risk job because the screen and its sealing interface are central to the enclosure’s dust and water protection.

Back sensor glass
Broken back sensor glass is a separate repair category from a cracked display. The rear sensor assembly has its own procedure and sealing considerations. A damaged back can affect both the watch’s physical protection and the operation of its sensors, so replacement should be matched to the exact model.
Vibration motor
iFixit’s Pixel Watch 4 repair index also lists a vibration-motor replacement guide. The vibrator must be removed before the battery in the documented battery workflow, illustrating that some repairs require several prerequisite disassembly steps.

Logic board and housing
Logic-board and housing work is possible within the broader service architecture, but it is not equivalent to a beginner repair. The absence of schematics limits board-level diagnosis, while housing damage can make correct resealing especially difficult. These jobs are better suited to experienced technicians with the correct parts, tools, and testing equipment.

iFixit says its 41mm LTE-based screen and battery procedures are functionally similar across the 41mm and 45mm versions. That should not be interpreted as proof that every part is interchangeable.

The repair manual explicitly identifies an LTE-specific antenna connection pin. The Wi-Fi model does not have that pin, so LTE and Wi-Fi internals are not identical. Before starting work, match the guide, replacement component, screws, O-rings, and housing details to the exact watch variant.
Do not assume that a similarly named battery, screen, sensor glass assembly, or seal fits every Pixel Watch 4. The existence of a guide also does not guarantee that parts are stocked in every country.

Do not assume it will.
The Pixel Watch 4’s O-rings and sealing components are a major improvement over a construction that depends primarily on adhesive, and the manual includes a leak-test workflow. But opening the watch can damage a seal, contaminate a sealing surface, or lead to incorrect compression during reassembly.
A watch that powers on after repair has not necessarily passed a water-resistance test. Correct repair requires the specified seals and replacement parts, careful assembly, functional checks, and the applicable leak test. Even then, a repair performed outside an authorized facility should not automatically be treated as independently verified IP68 performance.
The safest practical rule is to treat DIY opening as a potential loss of water resistance unless you can correctly restore the sealing system and perform the required testing. Do not go swimming with the watch simply because it appears to work normally after reassembly.
DIY or professional repair?

Google’s current Pixel Watch 4 repair support page covers in-warranty and out-of-warranty repair routes. Mail-in and walk-in availability varies by country and region, and out-of-warranty service incurs a charge whose amount depends on the issue, warranty status, location, and service route.
What Pixel Watch 4 repairability does—and does not—mean
The Pixel Watch 4 represents a significant change in direction. It is easier to open, less dependent on destructive adhesive, supported by Google service documentation, and accompanied by third-party repair guides for several meaningful components.
But repairability is a spectrum. The watch is designed for service and substantially easier to repair; it is not a device that every owner can safely fix at home with a basic screwdriver. The real repair workflow includes model identification, ESD protection, fragile connectors, non-reusable screws, sealing components, diagnostics, and potentially a leak test.
Parts availability and service coverage also vary by region. Check Google’s repair eligibility and verify exact replacement-part compatibility before opening the watch.
