The December 2025 Wear OS 6.1 update was released for Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 4, but Google delivered it in phases by model, connectivity variant, region and carrier. The global build was BP4A.251205.005.W7. If your watch still shows an older build, first confirm the exact model and LTE or Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi variant, then compare its build with Google’s Pixel Watch OTA catalog. A watch that has not been offered an available package needs troubleshooting; a variant with no published package has nothing local you can safely force.
Date note: This is the December 2025 release, not necessarily the newest software in 2026. Later releases exist for some models and carriers, so use the OTA catalog to identify the latest package for your exact watch.
Which Pixel Watches were eligible?

The original Pixel Watch was not included in that Wear OS 6.1 announcement; its support schedule was separate. Eligibility also depends on whether the watch is an LTE model or a Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi model. Those versions can receive software at different times.

What the December 2025 update contained
Google identified the release as Wear OS 6.1, build BP4A.251205.005.W7 for the global rollout. Changes included watch-face improvements, stability updates, better Airplane Mode performance and a redesigned Bedtime Mode icon. Pixel Watch 4 also gained one-handed gestures such as double-pinch and wrist-turn actions, with additional gesture controls for notifications and timers. Model, region, account, app and server availability can affect when individual features appear.
Google said the rollout would continue over several weeks and vary by carrier and device. It was not a simultaneous release for every Pixel Watch.
Check the installed build, not just the month label
- Swipe down on the watch face.
- Tap Settings.
- Open System.
- Tap About, then Versions.
- Record the build number and Android security-update level.
Compare that build with the entry for your exact model and connectivity type in Google’s OTA catalog. A displayed month can be less informative than the full build identifier. For the December 2025 global package, the comparison value is BP4A.251205.005.W7.

Try Google’s official update procedure
Before checking, put the watch on its charger, charge it to at least 50 percent, connect it to Wi‑Fi, keep it near the paired phone and update the phone’s Google Pixel Watch app. Then:
- On the watch, open Settings → System → System updates.
- Allow the check to finish. Google says downloading and installation can take up to an hour, and the watch cannot be used while installation runs.
- If no update appears, reboot the watch normally and check again.

Google’s safest workaround when the check is stuck
Use this sequence before considering a reset:
- Press and hold the crown and side button together for 20 seconds, then wait for the watch to reboot fully.
- Open Settings → Connectivity → Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off.
- Open Settings → Connectivity → Wi‑Fi and turn Wi‑Fi on.
- Return to Settings → System → System updates and check again.
This is Google’s documented failed-update procedure, not a third-party modification.

An unofficial repeated-tap trick
Some owners report repeatedly tapping the update/check control (or the small watch/phone icon) after the watch says it is up to date. A Google Pixel Watch Community thread describes trying for as long as two minutes. This may prompt another server check during a staged rollout, but it is not guaranteed or an official installation method. It cannot create a package Google has not released for your model or carrier variant.

Use the OTA catalog to tell a delay from a missing release
Google’s Pixel Watch OTA catalog lists full packages by device variant. Select the matching generation and connectivity entry; an LTE package is not interchangeable with a Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi package.

Google’s March 2026 community discussion documented this kind of split availability, with some LTE watches remaining on the December build while Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi versions had a newer release.
If installation starts but appears stuck
- Leave the watch on its charger and keep battery above 50 percent.
- Keep Wi‑Fi enabled and allow up to an hour.
- Do not force a shutdown while the installation is visibly progressing.
- If it is clearly frozen, reboot and repeat the Bluetooth-off/Wi‑Fi-on sequence.
- Confirm the paired phone’s Google Pixel Watch app is current.
The watch normally shows preparation, restarts and then installs the package. Apps may continue downloading after the system restart, so the watch may take additional time to settle.

Google publishes full OTA packages, and its general Android documentation says a full OTA is usually preferable to a factory image because it normally avoids wiping data and unlocking the bootloader. However, sideloading remains an advanced computer-based procedure requiring the exact model, variant and compatible software state. A wrong package or interrupted process can leave the watch unable to boot. Do not publish or follow a command sequence unless it has been checked against Google’s current Pixel Watch instructions.

Google’s factory-image documentation warns that factory-image installation erases data and that unlocking the bootloader reduces security. Do not factory-reset or flash an image merely because a staged rollout has not reached your watch.
When to contact Google or your carrier
Ask support to verify the exact model, SKU and LTE or Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi variant when:
- The compatible build is listed in the OTA catalog but remains unavailable after the official checks.
- The update repeatedly downloads and fails.
- The watch is stuck in a boot loop or cannot complete installation.
- Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth pairing or the watch’s reported software identity is incorrect.
Carrier support can confirm carrier-specific timing, but it cannot publish a Google package that is absent from the catalog.

The Bottom Line
If the December or a newer build is listed for your exact watch variant, troubleshoot the update check with Google’s charger, Wi‑Fi, reboot and Bluetooth-off procedure. If the package is absent from the OTA catalog, there is no legitimate local workaround yet—the release has not reached that model or channel.
