Pixel Weather is already available on Pixel Watches running Wear OS 6 or newer. It updates the watch’s existing weather experience with Pixel Weather branding, a refreshed interface, Tiles and watch-face complications; it is not the first weather app Pixel Watch has had. Here’s how to check compatibility and use the features.
What changed—and what did not
Pixel Watch owners already had a built-in app called Weather. The change is a transition to Google’s Pixel Weather experience on supported watches, with updated styling and watch integrations—not the first arrival of forecasts, nor a documented improvement in forecast accuracy. Google’s Wear OS announcement says eligible Pixel Watches automatically receive or upgrade to Pixel Weather. The Pixel Watch 4 was associated with the launch, but it is not the minimum requirement.
The watch interface brings Pixel Weather’s visual language to a small screen while retaining a watch-oriented forecast layout. Launch coverage described Material 3 Expressive styling, a prominent current-conditions view and redesigned Tiles; Google’s current help page documents the supported features and setup.

Google’s current compatibility rule is Wear OS 6 or newer. The operating-system version—not the Pixel Watch name alone—is the safe way to judge support. Google’s Wear OS 6 rollout announcement named Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 as eligible devices. Pixel Watch 4 launched in the context of the new experience. Google’s support page does not establish a blanket model-by-model promise for every earlier Pixel Watch, so check the OS version on your own device.

Google’s Pixel Weather documentation also notes that availability and some features vary by country or language. A supported watch therefore does not guarantee that every data category will appear in every location.
What information and shortcuts does it provide?
Google lists current conditions, “feels like” temperature, hourly and daily forecasts, weather alerts, air-quality index (AQI), precipitation, pollen, sunrise and sunset, and UV index. Some information—particularly pollen and other region-dependent data—may not be available everywhere.

- Check the software version: On the watch, swipe down, tap Settings → System → System updates to check for an update. To see the installed version, open Settings → System → About → Versions.
- Update watch apps: Press the crown, open Play Store → Manage apps → Update all.
- Check connectivity: Weather data needs an internet connection to update. For a software update, Google recommends keeping the watch on its charger, charging it to at least 50%, and connecting it to Wi-Fi.
- Review location access: Pixel Weather uses the watch’s location for the current-area forecast. If the place is wrong, generic or stale, check the watch’s location and the app’s permissions.
- Allow for regional limits: Missing pollen, AQI or another feature may reflect country or language availability rather than a fault.
- Check the watch face: A missing complication choice may mean the face has no compatible slot.
Google documents the update paths in its Pixel Watch software and app update instructions.

What happens to the old Weather app?
Google describes different outcomes by device and software. Pixel Watches on Wear OS 6 or newer automatically receive or upgrade to Pixel Weather. Watches on Wear OS 5 or earlier can continue using the existing Weather app. On non-Pixel Wear OS watches running Wear OS 6 or newer, Google says the old Weather app is no longer offered for new installations; people who already installed it may be able to keep using it. Other watch makers’ weather apps and third-party options are separate from the Pixel Watch transition.
For a spoken update rather than a visual forecast, Google says Gemini or Google Assistant can still answer weather questions on Wear OS 3 and newer. That is not a substitute for browsing forecasts, Tiles or complications.
Should you upgrade just to get Pixel Weather?
Usually not. Pixel Weather is a software feature, and the requirement is Wear OS 6 or newer. First check whether your current watch can run that version. If it cannot, compare newer-watch hardware and support alongside the software—not the weather app alone. Google’s Pixel Watch model information provides product context, but is not a definitive compatibility list for Pixel Weather.
