Short answer: Plaud Note Pro is a dedicated, card-sized audio recorder that captures meetings, interviews, phone calls and other conversations, then sends recordings to Plaud’s connected software for transcription and AI-generated notes. Plaud announced it at a $179 launch price on September 27, 2025; its current U.S. product listing shows the standalone device at $189.
It is standalone as recording hardware, but not as an offline AI assistant. The free Starter membership includes 300 transcription minutes per month, while heavier use requires a recurring Pro or Unlimited plan.
What Plaud actually launched
Plaud Note Pro is a thin recorder designed to sit on a phone, desk or meeting table. It is aimed at professionals recording meetings, interviews, consultations, lectures, conferences and phone calls—especially situations where a phone microphone is not enough or where a physical record button is more convenient.
Plaud announced the device on September 27, 2025, with preorders in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and selected European markets. The advertised launch price was $179, but that should be treated as a historical launch price rather than the universal current price. Plaud’s U.S. product page listed the standalone Note Pro at $189 in the latest available pricing snapshot.

This launch is separate from Plaud’s later CES 2026 announcements for NotePin S and Plaud Desktop. NotePin S is a wearable recorder, while Plaud Desktop is software for online-meeting workflows.

30 hours versus 50 hours
These battery figures describe different recording modes. Plaud associates up to 30 hours with standard or enhanced operation, while Endurance mode extends the claim to up to 50 hours but reduces the effective pickup range to about 9.8 feet.
That means Note Pro does not simply have a universal 50-hour battery life. Actual runtime will vary with recording mode, connectivity, environmental conditions and usage.
How the AI notetaker works
- Press the physical record control.
- Note Pro captures the audio locally.
- The recording synchronizes with Plaud’s app, web interface or desktop software.
- Plaud transcribes the audio and can identify speakers.
- The service can generate summaries, action items, mind maps and other structured outputs.
- You can search notes, ask follow-up questions, export results and use supported workflow integrations.
Plaud advertises transcription in 112 languages, automatic speaker labeling, custom vocabulary, more than 10,000 templates, audio import and an “Ask Plaud” question-and-answer feature. Availability can depend on the membership tier and software version.

The key distinction is that the recorder and the AI service are separate. Note Pro can capture audio without a phone continuously handling the recording, but transcription, summaries and follow-up questions belong to Plaud’s connected software ecosystem. It is not a fully offline AI computer.

Phone-call recording
Note Pro supports both phone-call and in-person recording. A magnetic case or ring allows it to attach to a phone for call capture, while the recorder can sit independently for meetings or interviews. Plaud says it can switch between phone-call and in-person modes.
Phone-call recording is initiated manually; it should not be described as automatically recording every call. Phone compatibility and setup requirements can change, so buyers should check Plaud’s current support documentation for their specific device.
Price, membership and the real first-year cost
The $179 figure was Plaud’s launch or preorder price. The current U.S. standalone listing observed in August 2026 showed $189 before tax. Regional prices, taxes, promotions and availability may differ.

Using the current $189 hardware price, approximate first-year U.S. totals are:
- Note Pro plus annual Pro: $288.99 before tax.

The included Starter membership is therefore a limited allowance, not free AI forever. Buyers who record occasionally may stay within 300 minutes; regular meeting users should include the subscription in their budget.

That number is not a guarantee of accurate transcription at every distance. Room reflections, overlapping speakers, background noise, obstructions, speaker volume and recorder placement can all affect results. Plaud’s performance claims should be treated as manufacturer claims unless supported by independent testing.

Otter.ai, Notta and Fireflies.ai are software-first alternatives to investigate if most of your conversations already happen online. Plaud Desktop, introduced separately at CES 2026, is the relevant Plaud component for online-meeting capture; Note Pro itself does not directly join meetings as a bot.
Who should buy Plaud Note Pro?
It makes sense if you:
- Regularly record face-to-face meetings, interviews, consultations or field conversations.
- Need one device for both phone calls and in-person audio.
- Want a physical record button and dedicated local storage.
- Record long sessions or need a claimed pickup range beyond a nearby phone microphone.
- Are comfortable paying for Pro or Unlimited when the free 300-minute allowance is insufficient.
Consider another option if you:
- Only need occasional transcripts.
- Already work almost entirely inside online meeting platforms.
- Need hands-free wearable recording; NotePin S is the more relevant Plaud design.
- Want guaranteed offline transcription or on-device AI.
- Do not want an ongoing software subscription.
- Work for an organization that prohibits third-party recording or cloud transcription.
Privacy, consent and cloud processing
Recording laws vary by U.S. state and country. Some jurisdictions require every participant’s consent, and workplaces, medical practices, legal teams, schools and customer-service operations may impose stricter rules. Notify participants, follow organizational policy and obtain the required consent before recording. This is practical guidance, not legal advice.
For sensitive conversations, determine whether audio and transcripts leave the device, how long they are retained, how deletion works, whether a business account or data-processing agreement is required, and whether your organization permits third-party AI processing.

Verdict
Plaud Note Pro is compelling dedicated recording hardware for people who routinely capture real-world conversations. Its expanded microphone system, phone-call setup, 64GB storage and long claimed recording modes give it a clearer purpose than a generic AI gadget.
But $179 was the launch price, not necessarily today’s price, and the device is only part of the cost. At the current listed U.S. hardware price, a first year with Pro is about $288.99 before tax, while Unlimited is about $428.99. The best fit is therefore a heavy meeting or interview user who values dedicated hardware and accepts connected AI processing—not an occasional user seeking a one-time, fully offline purchase.
