The Polar Grit X2 is a compact outdoor GPS watch announced on June 4, 2025—not a new 2026 launch. It pairs offline maps, dual-frequency GPS and wrist ECG, SpO2 and skin-temperature sensing with a claimed battery life of up to seven days in smartwatch mode. For U.S. buyers, the key caveat is price: Polar currently lists it at $799.99, only $200 below the larger Grit X2 Pro.
What Polar launched, and what it costs now
Polar announced the Grit X2 on June 4, 2025, describing it as a smaller, lighter outdoor watch than the Grit X2 Pro. Its original European launch price was €479.90; the initial launch availability excluded the United States, with U.S. availability planned later. Polar’s launch announcement is distinct from the current U.S. listing: as of the Polar USA product page crawled in August 2026, the Grit X2 is listed at $799.99. Prices can change and regional taxes or promotions may affect checkout totals. Check Polar’s current Grit X2 listing.
That U.S. price puts the compact model close to its larger sibling. Polar’s comparison module lists the Grit X2 Pro at $999.99 and the Vantage M3 at $499.99. The Grit X2’s case size and Polar’s training ecosystem are central to its appeal, but the $200 gap to the Pro makes a direct comparison worthwhile.

What the ECG, SpO2 and temperature sensors tell you
Wrist ECG measures electrical signals
Unlike optical heart-rate sensing, an ECG records electrical signals associated with the heart. Polar’s wrist ECG uses two electrodes—one on the upper-left button and one on the back of the watch—to record a signal for wellness and training insights. It is not a clinical diagnosis or a substitute for medical evaluation. An unusual result by itself does not establish a heart condition. Polar explains the feature on its wrist ECG support page.
SpO2 is an estimate, not a diagnosis
The optical SpO2 sensor estimates blood-oxygen saturation. Polar presents the measurement as potentially useful context for altitude training, recovery from illness and readiness, but a consumer-watch reading cannot diagnose hypoxemia, sleep apnea, altitude illness or another condition. Seek medical advice for health concerns rather than relying on a watch measurement.
Skin temperature is a trend metric
Nightly skin-temperature sensing can provide a trend for personal context. Skin temperature is not core body temperature and does not replace a clinical thermometer.

What “up to seven days” means
Polar rates the Grit X2 for up to seven days in smartwatch mode, with continuous heart-rate tracking and phone notifications enabled. That is an everyday-use rating, not a week of continuous GPS recording. The manual lists a 310mAh rechargeable lithium-polymer battery and these activity-mode figures:
| Use mode | Polar’s stated maximum | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Smartwatch mode | Up to 7 days | Watch use with continuous heart-rate tracking and notifications enabled |
| Performance Training | Up to 30 hours | Higher-accuracy GPS recording |
| Eco Training | Up to 90 hours | Power-saving GPS settings; not directly comparable with Performance mode |
These are maximum ratings, not guaranteed results. Polar warns that an always-on display reduces endurance. GPS settings and recording interval, screen brightness, temperature, notifications, sensors and map or navigation use also affect battery life. For a multi-day trip, plan around the GPS mode and screen behavior you will actually use—not the smartwatch figure. The battery is described by Polar as replaceable, but that does not establish that owners should replace it themselves; check Polar’s service and warranty terms. Polar’s manual lists the battery ratings, and Polar describes the battery as replaceable.
Maps, GPS and rugged construction for outdoor use
The Grit X2 combines dual-frequency GPS with full-color offline topographic maps stored on 32GB of internal storage. Maps can be viewed during training or outside a workout, while route features include elevation profiles, points of interest and turn-by-turn guidance. Prepare and transfer the maps or routes you need before leaving connectivity; offline navigation depends on having the relevant material available on the watch.

A barometer supports altitude measurement, and a digital compass adds basic orientation. Dual-frequency GPS can help with positioning, but it cannot guarantee a clean track under dense tree cover, beside cliffs or among tall buildings. Polar’s accuracy claims are conditional on open-sky conditions, and terrain can affect results. Offline maps help with orientation but should not be treated as a replacement for sound route planning.
Polar lists MIL-STD-810H durability, a sapphire-glass lens and 50-meter water resistance. These are useful specifications for an outdoor watch, not a promise that the device is indestructible. The water rating is suitable for swimming, not diving. Polar gives an operating temperature range of –20°C to 50°C / –4°F to 122°F; cold can still reduce practical battery performance. The watch weighs about 2.2 ounces, has a 1.28-inch display, and accepts interchangeable 22mm wristbands. Its AMOLED screen offers color and a modern, bright presentation, while its always-on use can cost battery life compared with more power-frugal display approaches.
Training and recovery are a major part of the value
The Grit X2’s pitch is not just rugged hardware. Its Elixir biosensing platform and Polar Flow ecosystem bring together training and recovery tools, including Training Load Pro, Nightly Recharge and the Orthostatic Test. For runners and mountain athletes, the watch also supports running power from the wrist, a Running Performance Test, Hill Splitter, vertical speed and VAM. FuelWise, FitSpark, Work-Rest Guide, voice guidance, training targets, a Season Planner, and walking and fitness tests extend the coaching and workout tools. Polar Flow offers more than 150 sport profiles.

- FULLY AUTOMATIC AND INTELLIGENT OVERNIGHT RECOVERY MEASUREMENT helps you to track your sleep behavior and understand how well you recovered from training and other factors during the night so that you can make optimal choices for the day ahead.
Polar Flow is the watch’s companion platform for reviewing training and recovery data and organizing workouts. Polar says Flow is free with no hidden fees on the Grit X2 product page; service terms and included features can change. This ecosystem is a stronger reason to choose the watch than its ECG or SpO2 alone if you want structured training analysis. If your priorities are extensive third-party apps, cellular connectivity, payments or broad music support, the Grit X2 is better understood as a training and outdoor watch than a general-purpose smartwatch. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Grit X2 vs. Grit X2 Pro
Polar’s comparison highlights the practical trade: the Grit X2 is lighter and smaller, while the Pro has a bigger screen and a longer Performance Training rating. The U.S. prices below are those listed in Polar’s comparison module, crawled in August 2026, and may change.
| Feature | Grit X2 | Grit X2 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. listed price | $799.99 | $999.99 |
| Weight | 2.2 oz | 2.8 oz |
| Display | 1.28 in | 1.39 in |
| Performance Training rating | Up to 30 hours | Up to 43 hours |
| Screen material | Sapphire glass | Sapphire glass |
| Listed military standard | MIL-STD-810H | MIL-STD-810H |
Choose the X2 if comfort, a smaller case and lower weight matter more than a larger display or the Pro’s longer high-accuracy GPS rating. Consider the Pro if your outings regularly push the X2’s 30-hour Performance rating, or you prefer the bigger screen. At only $200 between the listed U.S. prices, a discount on the Pro could change which is the better buy; compare checkout prices rather than assuming the X2 is the budget model. Which Polar or outdoor-watch alternative makes sense?
Polar Vantage M3: lower-cost multisport option
Polar’s comparison module lists the Vantage M3 at $499.99 in the U.S. and shows it with a similarly sized 1.28-inch display, but Gorilla Glass rather than sapphire and no MIL-STD-810H listing on that comparison page. It may suit multisport athletes who want the Polar platform without paying for the Grit line’s more rugged construction. If sapphire glass and the ruggedization listing matter for your use, the M3 is a different proposition, not simply a cheaper Grit X2. Price and comparison details are on Polar’s product page and the Vantage M3 page.
Suunto Vertical: consider it if expedition endurance comes first
Suunto positions the Vertical around long battery life, GPS accuracy and contour-map navigation. It is a natural alternative if expedition endurance and mapping outrank a compact Polar design or Polar’s recovery features. The cited official page does not establish a current price here, so compare its live listing rather than relying on an unverified figure: Suunto Vertical All Black.
Garmin and COROS: compare by model and priorities
Garmin may be a better fit for shoppers seeking broader smartwatch functions, training tools and an extensive accessory ecosystem; COROS is often considered by endurance athletes focused on battery and value. Those are broad categories, not like-for-like verdicts: features and prices vary by model, and the cited material does not establish a specific current Garmin or COROS price comparison. It is a strong match if you want
- A compact, relatively light outdoor watch with sapphire glass and a MIL-STD-810H listing.
- Offline maps, route guidance and dual-frequency GPS in a watch that also serves for everyday wear.
- Polar Flow’s training and recovery analysis, especially if you already use Polar devices or training tools.
- ECG, SpO2 and nightly skin-temperature trends as wellness and training context, not medical diagnoses.
- A battery Polar describes as replaceable, with the caveat that replacement arrangements and warranty terms should be checked with Polar.
Look elsewhere or compare carefully if you need
- More than the X2’s up-to-30-hour Performance Training GPS rating for a typical long outing.
- A larger display; the Grit X2 Pro has a 1.39-inch screen and a 43-hour Performance rating.
- Extensive smartwatch apps, cellular service, payments or broad music features.
- A lower price: the Vantage M3 is listed below it, while the current gap to the Pro is narrow enough to compare both.
- A medical device for diagnosing heart or oxygen-related conditions; the watch’s consumer wellness measurements are not a substitute for clinical care.
Verdict
The Grit X2 makes a persuasive case as a smaller, lighter Polar outdoor watch: it combines sapphire glass, offline maps, dual-frequency GPS and substantial training and recovery tools with ECG, SpO2 and skin-temperature tracking. The “full week” headline is specifically a smartwatch-mode rating, not GPS endurance. At Polar’s August 2026 U.S. listing of $799.99, it is a premium purchase whose value rests on wanting the compact form and Polar Flow ecosystem. Check the Grit X2 Pro before buying if you need longer high-accuracy GPS sessions or a larger display, and compare other brands if expedition battery life or smartwatch breadth matters more.
