Polar’s Street X is one of its most affordable current GPS sports watches: it costs $249.99 in the U.S. and pairs a 1.28-inch AMOLED screen with a rugged build, a built-in flashlight, long claimed battery life and Polar’s training and recovery tools. But it is better described as a sports watch with smartwatch utilities than as a full smartwatch: it has notifications and music controls, but no NFC payments, app store, onboard music storage or cellular connection.

What the Polar Street X is—and why its price needs context

Polar positions the Street X for “hybrid training and life”: running, gym sessions, everyday activity and city commuting. It combines GPS and route guidance with heart-rate, sleep, activity, training-load and recovery features, plus more than 170 supported sport profiles. The latter are selectable profiles, not a claim that each sport has a distinct specialized sensor system.

Polar lists the Street X at $249.99 in the United States and €249.90 on its global store; those are regional listed prices, not interchangeable currency conversions. Within Polar’s U.S. lineup, the company lists the Pacer Pro at $349.90, placing the Street X about $100 below it at those listed prices. Polar’s catalog also includes higher-positioned Vantage and Grit models. The defensible claim is that the Street X is among Polar’s least expensive current GPS sports watches—not that it is the cheapest smartwatch on the market.

Its pricing also puts it near the COROS Pace 4, listed at $249, the Garmin Forerunner 165, whose standard-model MSRP is about $249.99, and the Suunto Run, reported around $249 in the U.S. These watches overlap in training use but differ in ecosystems, features and design. Polar’s U.S. Street X page, its watch catalog and the COROS product catalog provide vendor listings; actual retail prices and promotions can change.

Design, durability and the flashlight

The Street X measures 45 × 45 × 13.8 mm and weighs 48 g with its band. Its 1.28-inch AMOLED display has a 416 × 416 resolution and Gorilla Glass 3. Polar specifies a bio-based plastic case, WR50 water resistance and testing against the MIL-STD-810H durability standard. Polar also gives an operating-temperature range of -20°C to 50°C (-4°F to 122°F).

Those specifications support calling it a ruggedly positioned watch, not damage-proof. MIL-STD-810H is a stated test standard, not a promise that every unit will survive every impact or environment. WR50 is intended for ordinary water exposure and swimming; it is not a scuba-diving rating. Polar’s global specifications and technical manual give the construction and environmental details.

Navigation here should not be mistaken for full topographic maps or confirmed turn-by-turn mapping. The documented features are route guidance and breadcrumb-style tools. The listed sensors do not include ECG or a blood-oxygen (SpO2) sensor. Polar’s product page describes the training feature set at polar.com.

Battery life: three “up to” figures

Polar rates the 385 mAh battery for up to 10 days in smartwatch mode, up to 43 hours in performance training mode, or up to 170 hours in eco training mode. These are manufacturer maximum estimates for different modes, not a single typical-use forecast. Polar says the 10-day smartwatch estimate assumes continuous heart-rate tracking and phone notifications but excludes recorded training sessions. The 43-hour performance figure is for GPS and optical heart rate, with one-second GPS recording.

  • [Comprehensive Sports Tracking & Recovery] Supports over 150 sports profiles, with performance tests, sleep tracking, and recovery tools like Nightly Recharge, SleepWise, and Training Load Pro to optimize your training routine.

Always-On Display increases power use, and frequent GPS workouts, connected features, cold conditions, the selected GPS mode and battery aging can all affect real-world runtime. The 170-hour eco figure trades performance-mode settings for longer recording time; it should not be read as equivalent GPS detail or operating conditions. Polar’s technical manual explains the stated modes and caveats.

What smartwatch features are included—and what is missing

When paired with a compatible phone, the Street X supports incoming call, message and app notifications, music playback controls, weather information, alarms, calendar and activity views, and Find My Phone. The phone connection matters: this is not a cellular watch, and connected functions such as notifications, weather and phone finding depend on pairing and supported phone software.

  • 10 ATM water-rated and engineered to MIL-STD-810 for thermal and shock resistance
  • Know your body better with health monitoring features, including wrist-based heart rate, advanced sleep monitoring, Pulse Ox and more (this is not a medical device, and data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked; Pulse Ox not available in all countries)
  • Navigate confidently with a 3-axis compass, barometric altimeter and multi-GNSS support
  • Stay connected with smart notifications and Connect IQ Store integration, which allows you to download new apps and watch faces (when paired with your compatible smartphone)

It does not offer NFC payments, onboard music storage, a full app store or LTE in the cited specifications. Its 32 MB of storage is not a music library. It also lacks ECG and SpO2. Buyers seeking streaming music, contactless checkout, downloadable apps, voice-assistant features or broad phone integration should look at a platform smartwatch instead. For a runner who carries a phone and mainly wants alerts and playback controls, those omissions may matter less.

COROS Pace 4 $249 in COROS’s catalog Comparison coverage reports a lighter design and more storage, while Street X counters with a rugged urban design, flashlight and Polar recovery workflow. Specific feature and battery comparisons depend on mode and software. Runners drawn to COROS’s training ecosystem, low weight or onboard music options
Garmin Forerunner 165 About $249.99 U.S. standard-model MSRP; retail prices vary Garmin lists AMOLED and Garmin Pay; Garmin Connect has a broad ecosystem. Street X emphasizes its rugged positioning, flashlight and Polar Flow. Garmin users or buyers who value Garmin Pay and its connected ecosystem

Runners interested in Suunto’s ecosystem; compare current regional specifications against personal needs

Polar’s Street X and Pacer Pro figures come from Polar’s comparison; the COROS price comes from its official catalog. Prices and feature availability should be checked for the buyer’s region and current model software.

Who should buy the Street X?

  • Polar Flow users: You already use Polar’s app and want training, sleep and recovery information in the same ecosystem.
  • Hybrid athletes and gym users: You want a watch for several kinds of training, with a large selection of sport profiles and everyday activity tracking.
  • Commuters and runners who value practical extras: The flashlight, notifications, AMOLED display and rugged positioning are useful, and carrying a phone is acceptable.
  • Buyers focused on sports-watch value: You want GPS training and recovery features around $250, rather than a full app-based smartwatch.

Who should skip it?

  • Choose another watch if contactless payments, onboard music or an app ecosystem are essential.
  • Look elsewhere if you need LTE independence, ECG, SpO2, or advanced maps rather than route guidance and breadcrumbs.
  • Consider a lighter model if minimizing wrist weight is your priority.
  • If you already rely on Garmin Connect, Apple Health, Samsung Health or COROS, weigh the friction of changing ecosystems before buying.
