The Redmi Watch 5 reached international markets in January 2025, bringing a 2.07-inch AMOLED display, built-in GPS, Bluetooth calling and Xiaomi’s claim of up to 24 days of battery life. Its original UK price was £89.99. That is a historical launch figure, not a dependable current price: availability and pricing vary by country, and Xiaomi’s UK store currently shows no usable live price.
For buyers considering one now, the key distinction is that the Redmi Watch 5 is a long-battery-life phone companion, not a cellular or full Wear OS smartwatch. Check the exact regional model and current stock before buying, especially if you need contactless payments or independent app support.
When did the Redmi Watch 5 launch globally?
Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Watch 5 in China in late November 2024 and began its international rollout in January 2025. In the UK, launch and first-sale activity started on January 15, 2025. The original UK price/value was £89.99; Xiaomi also ran launch promotions, including a historical offer around £74.99. Those figures are not verified current prices.
“Global” does not mean the watch was sold everywhere at once or is currently in stock in every country. Xiaomi still lists the model in its global watch catalogue, but the UK buying page has shown a £0 placeholder rather than a usable selling price. Check your country’s Xiaomi store or an authorized local retailer for current stock, price, warranty and supported features. The available evidence does not establish a universal US launch price.

Large AMOLED screen, compact smartwatch ambitions
The 2.07-inch square screen is the Redmi Watch 5’s most conspicuous feature. At 432 × 514 pixels and 324 ppi, it offers room for notifications, workout data and watch faces without resorting to a narrow display. Xiaomi lists a 60Hz refresh rate, a roughly 82% screen-to-body ratio and a 1,500-nit high-brightness mode. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of outdoor readability.

The watch has an aluminum frame, a stainless-steel rotating crown and a 2.5D curved-glass design. Its standard strap is TPU, and Xiaomi lists black, silver-gray and lavender-purple options. Additional straps are sold separately. Portrait-style watch faces have a compatibility caveat: Xiaomi says those are limited to its phones running HyperOS.
GPS, workouts and health tracking
The global Redmi Watch 5 has its own five-system GNSS receiver, so it can record an outdoor workout route without the phone being physically present. It still needs to be paired with a phone for broader syncing and connected features. Satellite-system support alone does not establish how accurately the watch tracks routes in a dense city, under trees or in other difficult conditions.
Xiaomi lists more than 150 sports modes, ten on-wrist running courses, a vitality score and breathing exercises. Its health features include all-day heart-rate monitoring, blood-oxygen tracking, sleep monitoring and stress monitoring. Xiaomi says its heart-rate accuracy improved by 5.2% and sleep-recognition accuracy by 10% compared with the Redmi Watch 4. Those are Xiaomi’s own laboratory comparisons, not independent or clinical validation.

Treat health readings as wellness estimates, not medical measurements. Xiaomi says the watch and its features are not intended to diagnose, prevent, cure or treat disease.

The 5ATM rating is not a blanket promise that the watch is safe for every water activity. Xiaomi says it is suitable for swimming pools, swimming near shore and other shallow-water activities, but not diving, hot showers, saunas or strong, fast-moving water. Water resistance may also deteriorate over time. See Xiaomi’s water-resistance guidance before using it in water.
Calls, notifications and music: what it can and cannot do
The watch has a speaker and two microphones for Bluetooth calls, but the phone must remain connected nearby. Xiaomi says third-party app voice calls are not currently supported, so do not assume you can answer every WhatsApp, Messenger or similar call from the watch.

Xiaomi also describes transferring music from an Android smartphone to the watch for playback through connected earphones. That is not the same as cellular music streaming or a general Spotify-on-your-wrist experience. The global specifications do not identify the Redmi Watch 5 as an LTE or eSIM model, and its HyperOS/Mi Fitness setup is not a full Wear OS app ecosystem.
Do not assume the global model supports NFC payments. Xiaomi’s global specifications do not list NFC; features reported for the China edition should not be taken as proof of support on an international version. If payments are essential, verify the exact regional SKU and payment service before purchase.

Xiaomi rates the 550mAh battery for up to 24 days of typical use and says that is roughly 20% better than the Redmi Watch 4. The maximum is based on Xiaomi’s test scenario, which disables several demanding functions, including high-precision sleep monitoring, sleep-breathing monitoring, all-day stress monitoring and all-day blood-oxygen monitoring. It also assumes limited weekly calling and exercise use.

Frequent GPS workouts, more continuous health monitoring, an always-on or frequently activated screen, high brightness, many notifications and calls will all reduce runtime. Treat 24 days as a manufacturer’s best-case typical-use claim, not a guaranteed result for every owner.
How it differs from other Xiaomi watches
Retail listings can blur together similarly named models. Xiaomi lists the Redmi Watch 5, Redmi Watch 5 Lite, Redmi Watch 5 Active and Xiaomi Watch 5 as separate products in its watch catalogue.

For the Redmi Watch 5 versus its direct predecessor, the clearest changes are the larger 2.07-inch display (up from 1.97 inches), Xiaomi’s claimed 20% battery improvement, updated heart-rate and sleep tracking, and the rotating stainless-steel crown. Both remain phone-companion watches rather than full app-platform replacements.

It remains worth considering if you find the correct global model at a good local price and want a large AMOLED screen, standalone GPS, basic fitness tracking and fewer charging stops. Its appeal is strongest for casual runners, walkers, gym users and people who want notifications and ordinary Bluetooth calls while their phone is close.
Look elsewhere if you require LTE/eSIM independence, dependable NFC payments, a broad third-party app library, or independently validated sports and health performance. iPhone owners should also keep expectations modest: compatibility with iOS does not imply Apple Watch-style integration.
Before ordering, check the full product name (including “Lite” or “Active”), your phone’s operating-system version, regional warranty, current price and stock, and whether the exact regional model lists any feature you require. Avoid importing the China edition on the assumption that its NFC, payment functions, services or language support will work like those of the global version.
