Redmi’s first children’s smartwatch launched in China in March 2025, with sales reported to begin on March 24 at a launch price of 499 yuan. Its headline features include a 1.68-inch display, 5MP camera for video calls, 4G connectivity and location tools—but there is no confirmed U.S. or global release, and Chinese-market specifications do not establish compatibility with carriers or services elsewhere.

Specifications and launch details were reported by Gizmochina in March 2025. English-language naming varies; Xiaomi’s China store lists a product called REDMI 儿童手表, as well as a separate Pro model. The available product-page information does not establish current stock or confirm that either listing is identical to the March 2025 launch device: REDMI children’s watch and REDMI children’s watch Pro.
What the watch is designed to do
The watch combines child-to-parent communication with location features and kid-focused software. A 1.68-inch, 360 × 390 screen is relatively large for a wrist device and may make dialing, reading prompts and viewing simple map or location screens easier. The trade-off is that a larger screen can be more noticeable and potentially bulkier on a small wrist; published reports do not provide dimensions or weight to judge its fit.

Gizmochina and other coverage report pink, blue and lavender color options, but the official listing details available here do not confirm those finishes. The 4GB storage figure is reported; no further details establish how much is available to families or which apps can be added.

Video calls and communication depend on the China-market ecosystem
The front-facing 5MP camera is intended for photos and video calls, and coverage also reports children’s WeChat support. Cellular access is central to those functions: a camera alone does not make calling possible without a working network connection, compatible service and appropriate account or app setup.
“Full-network 4G” refers to the launch’s Chinese carrier context. It does not show that the watch supports U.S. LTE bands, can be activated by a U.S. carrier, or works with a parent app available in another country. Reporting does not specify whether calls are carrier-based or app-based, which Xiaomi account region is required, or whether the watch can be used with non-Chinese services. Parents considering an import should establish those details before buying rather than assume that 4G means universal compatibility.
Location tools can help, but they are not a guarantee of safety
Published descriptions name GPS, China’s BeiDou satellite system, Wi-Fi positioning, A-GPS and AI positioning, along with a “nine-layer” or multi-source tracking approach. That phrase is a feature description, not proof of nine independent satellite systems or a particular accuracy level. Up to 90 days of location history and safety zones are also reported, with alerts when a child enters or leaves a set area.

Battery and water resistance: read the claims narrowly
The 950mAh battery is paired with a published estimate of up to three days per charge. The available coverage does not state a standardized test method or clarify whether that maximum assumes light use, typical use or standby. Video calls, camera use, frequent location updates, cellular activity and weak signal can all make battery life more demanding in practice. For a device a parent relies on for contact or location, the practical question is how often the family must charge it—not capacity alone.
Coverage reports water resistance to 20 meters, but that figure is not a blanket promise that the watch is waterproof. The launch reporting cautions against showers and swimming; avoid treating the rating as permission for pool use, hot water, diving or high-pressure water. Xiaomi’s guidance for a different global kids’ watch likewise warns that its 2ATM/20-meter-equivalent rating is not intended for hot showers, saunas, diving or high-speed water impact; that is useful context, not proof of the Redmi model’s exact test conditions: Xiaomi Smart Kids Watch product page.
Parental controls and child-focused software
Published reports list classroom mode, anti-addiction settings, parent-managed WeChat access, controls that can restrict or disable payments, educational apps for stories, music, maths, English and logical thinking, custom watch faces, a K12 exercise system and several sports modes. These features suggest a device intended to do more than basic calling and tracking, but the reports do not answer several questions that matter to a family:

- Which parent app is required, and does it work outside China or require a China-registered Xiaomi account?
- Can parents approve contacts individually, and can unknown numbers call the watch?
- Can the child install other apps, and are classroom or anti-addiction settings scheduled by parents?
- Are payment and education features tied to Chinese services?
- What can a child or parent do when the watch loses connectivity?
Those implementation details are not established in the launch coverage. The feature list should not be treated as proof that every control is available in every region or configurable in a particular way.

Privacy deserves special attention on a connected watch for a child
Coverage says the watch uses AES-256 encryption and has undergone more than 170 reliability tests. These are reported claims, not independent assessments of the whole service. Encryption alone does not explain where location or video-call data is stored, how long it is retained, who can access the 90-day history, or whether parents can delete histories or recordings.
Before relying on the camera, location sharing or family accounts, parents should look for the product’s privacy policy and verify the account’s access controls, data-retention rules, deletion process, account recovery protections and data jurisdiction. The available launch reporting does not establish whether data leaves China or whether the model has independent child-safety or privacy certification.
Is the Redmi Kids Smartwatch available outside China?
The documented launch was in China, with reservations reported through JD.com ahead of the March 24, 2025 sales date. The 499-yuan figure is a China launch price from that time, not a current price, U.S. MSRP or confirmed international retail offer. There is no confirmed U.S. or global launch in the available information, and no established U.S. carrier-band support, local warranty, parent-app availability or international service cost for this model.
That makes importing a consequential compatibility decision, not just a way to obtain a lower-priced watch. Before purchasing an import, confirm local cellular activation, app-store availability and language, account-region requirements, warranty coverage, update support, taxes and shipping, and any cellular or subscription charges.
