Samsung did begin rolling out the One UI 8 Watch beta—but the announcement dates to June 30, 2025, not a new September 2026 launch. The first release was limited to the Galaxy Watch7 and 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra in South Korea and the United States. In the U.S., the initial beta supported Bluetooth models and LTE models connected to T-Mobile.
One UI 8 Watch is Samsung’s watch interface and feature layer based on Wear OS 6. It later expanded to additional Galaxy Watch generations and progressed to stable releases, while Samsung’s newer watch-software testing has since moved on to One UI 9 Watch.
What Samsung actually launched
The June 30, 2025 announcement concerned a beta, not a universal software update for every Galaxy Watch. Samsung’s first One UI 8 Watch test firmware was approximately 1.9GB to 2GB and was based on Wear OS 6.
That distinction matters. A beta is experimental software distributed to selected users before the stable release. Availability depended on the watch model, regional firmware, market, Bluetooth or LTE configuration, and—initially in the United States—the carrier supporting the LTE watch.

Which Galaxy Watches were eligible?

Samsung’s wording should not be read as meaning that every “Galaxy Watch” qualified at the same time. The first supported devices were specifically the Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. Later coverage reported beta expansion to the Watch6 and Watch5 families, including the Galaxy Watch5 series.
Where was the beta available?
The initial markets were South Korea and the United States. Samsung’s beta information warned that availability could vary according to country, device model, and software version.

U.S. eligibility was narrower than simply owning a compatible watch. Early reports identified Bluetooth models and LTE models using T-Mobile. An LTE Galaxy Watch connected to another carrier was not automatically eligible.
What One UI 8 Watch changed
The update focused on making watch information easier to see and act on while adding health and personalization features. Samsung’s advertised feature areas included:
- Now Bar: a way to surface ongoing activities and live information.
- Custom Tiles: more flexible Tile arrangements and customization.
- Watch-face personalization: additional customization and suggestions.
- Health tools: Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, Running Coach, Antioxidant Index, and expanded mindfulness and wellness functions.
- Interface changes: updated app layouts and visual elements.
- Gesture controls: expanded actions assigned to gestures such as the double-pinch command.
Later stable-release coverage also described new app icons, additional widgets and watch faces, stacked notifications, multiple widgets within a Tile, list and grid layouts for the app drawer, and more control over calendars and notification behavior. Health features require particular caution. Their availability and behavior can depend on the country, regulatory approval, compatible hardware, software version, and Samsung Health components. A feature appearing in Samsung’s announcement does not guarantee that it works on every watch or in every market.

- Update Samsung Members on the Galaxy phone paired with the watch.
- Sign in using the Samsung Account associated with the watch.
- Open Samsung Members and look for the One UI 8 Watch Beta Program banner or card.
- Register for the beta.
- Open Galaxy Wearable.
- Go to the watch’s software-update screen and check for the firmware.
- Download and install the update if the watch and market are eligible.
Menu names can vary by Samsung Members version and country. For the subsequent public update, the practical Galaxy Wearable path was Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Watch software update → Download and install.
Enrollment was free, although Samsung noted that network charges could apply. A missing beta banner did not necessarily mean the watch hardware was unsupported. Other explanations included an incompatible regional variant, unsupported LTE carrier, Samsung Account mismatch, outdated Members or Galaxy Wearable components, a closed enrollment period, or a rollout that had not yet reached the device.
Before installing beta firmware
- Confirm the exact watch model and regional variant.
- Update Samsung Members, Galaxy Wearable, and Watch Manager components.
- Use the same Samsung Account on the phone and watch.
- Connect the phone to reliable Wi-Fi; the download was roughly 2GB.
- Charge the watch and phone adequately before starting.
- Create a recent backup, preferably using Samsung’s recommended backup tools.
- Do not install the beta on a watch you rely on for critical alarms, payments, exercise tracking, or medical-adjacent monitoring unless you accept the risk of failures.
Samsung warns that beta software can contain bugs, errors, missing features, and unexpected behavior. Possible problems include reduced battery life, installation issues, app or watch-face incompatibility, glitches, and inconsistent health measurements during testing.

Reporting problems and leaving the beta
Beta participants could submit reports through Samsung Members → Participated Beta test → Beta feedback → Send feedback. For problems that generate logs, Samsung advises sending feedback soon after the issue occurs and keeping Samsung Members open until the report is transmitted.

Leaving the program does not necessarily provide a simple over-the-air downgrade. Samsung’s general beta guidance says that rollback uses Smart Switch on a computer. The process resets the device and removes data generated during beta testing, so a backup is essential. Samsung’s official instructions are available through the One UI Beta Program guidance.
If an installation fails and the watch becomes unusable, Samsung directs users to a service center. A backup also cannot guarantee that every setting, application state, or beta-created data item will return after a reset or downgrade.

What happened after the first beta?
Samsung later expanded One UI 8 Watch beta coverage to older devices, including the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch5 families. Stable updates subsequently reached newer compatible watches, including international Watch7 markets, as reported in SamMobile’s rollout coverage.
That later history is important for anyone reading the original headline now. One UI 8 Watch is no longer a newly launching beta in 2026. It is a previous watch-software generation, and current Samsung testing has moved toward One UI 9 Watch, as reported by Android Central.
Should you install it?
The beta made sense for enthusiasts, developers, and owners with a spare compatible watch who wanted early access to Wear OS 6-based features and were willing to report bugs.
It was a poor choice for anyone who needed dependable battery life, payments, alarms, health tracking, exercise recording, or broad app compatibility. It was also unsuitable for owners whose exact country, regional model, or carrier was not listed. If the goal was simply to get One UI 8 Watch, buying a new watch was not automatically justified: existing Watch5 and Watch6 models later received expansion coverage, while newer hardware should be considered for its sensors, performance, battery, design, or LTE—not just the software.
Bottom line on the headline
Yes, Samsung really did start the One UI 8 Watch beta, but the precise report is: on June 30, 2025, Samsung began a limited beta for the Galaxy Watch7 and 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra in South Korea and the U.S., with U.S. LTE eligibility initially limited to T-Mobile. It was not a simultaneous update for all Galaxy Watch models and should not be described as a new 2026 rollout.
