Yes—Samsung has confirmed a major Galaxy Watch battery-capacity increase, but the biggest jump is for the Galaxy Watch Ultra2. Its 800 mAh battery is 35% larger than the previous Ultra’s 590 mAh cell. The standard Galaxy Watch9 also gets a battery bump, though Samsung describes that increase as 20%, not 35%. Neither figure guarantees the same percentage improvement in real-world battery life.
Which Galaxy Watch gets the big battery?
Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 on July 22, 2026. The headline upgrade belongs to the 47 mm Galaxy Watch Ultra2: Samsung lists an 800 mAh battery and calls it the largest ever in a Galaxy Watch. The 40 mm and 44 mm Galaxy Watch9 models receive a more modest upgrade. Samsung’s launch announcement describes the Ultra2’s capacity as 35% higher and the Watch9’s as 20% higher than the prior generation.
| Model | Battery information | What the comparison means |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch Ultra2 | 800 mAh | Samsung says capacity is 35% higher than the previous Ultra |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra | 590 mAh | Previous Ultra baseline |
| Galaxy Watch9 | 390 mAh cited in Samsung launch material | Samsung says capacity is 20% higher than the prior generation; check the specification for your size and market |
| Galaxy Watch8 | 325–445 mAh, depending on model | Samsung corporate documentation lists different capacities across sizes and models |
The Ultra2 figure and Samsung’s comparison are in its U.S. product information and launch materials. The prior Ultra’s 590 mAh capacity and Watch8’s size-specific figures appear in Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report. Samsung’s launch material cites 390 mAh for the Watch9, but that should not be taken as proof that every size or regional configuration has an identical battery specification.
The Ultra2 battery increase, in numbers
The previous Galaxy Watch Ultra had a 590 mAh battery; the Ultra2 has 800 mAh. That is an increase of 210 mAh, or about 35.6% by arithmetic—close to Samsung’s stated 35% capacity increase. This is a substantial hardware change, but milliamp-hours describe stored battery capacity, not how many hours the watch will run.

Does 35% more capacity mean 35% longer battery life?
No. A 35% increase in capacity does not by itself establish a 35% increase in time between charges. Actual runtime depends on how much power the watch uses, including display brightness and always-on display settings, GPS and LTE use, workout tracking, health-sensor sampling, notifications, software, battery-saving settings, and temperature.
For example, a person recording long GPS workouts or using LTE heavily may consume more power than someone who mainly checks notifications and tracks sleep. Samsung also highlights the Ultra2’s brighter display and newer Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. A larger battery may help offset demanding features, while the actual balance depends on the watch’s power consumption and the owner’s settings.

Samsung positions the watches for continuous health and wellness monitoring, sleep tracking, exercise, and outdoor use. Treat launch statements about battery improvements as capacity claims unless they specify a tested runtime and conditions. A fair battery-life comparison needs the same model configuration, software, display settings, connectivity, and use pattern.
What about the standard Galaxy Watch9?
Samsung cites a 390 mAh battery for the Watch9 in launch material and calls the capacity increase 20%. The Watch9 comes in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes, with Bluetooth and LTE configurations. Because battery specifications can differ by size, model, and market—and Samsung’s documentation lists several capacities for the preceding Watch8 range—check the local specification sheet for the exact version you plan to buy rather than assuming 390 mAh applies to every Watch9.

The distinction matters: the Watch9 is getting a battery improvement, but it is not the model behind the Ultra2’s much larger 800 mAh headline. If maximum Galaxy Watch capacity is the priority, the Ultra2 is the relevant model; if you want a smaller or less expensive watch, the Watch9’s more modest upgrade may be a better fit.

- Choose the Ultra2 if you prioritize the largest Galaxy Watch battery, regularly use GPS or LTE, spend time outdoors, and are comfortable with a 47 mm watch. In the U.S., Samsung announced a $699.99 starting price. Its larger format and premium positioning are trade-offs, not benefits for every wrist or budget.
- Consider the Watch9 if you want a less expensive option, prefer a 40 mm or 44 mm size, or want a battery-capacity improvement without moving to the Ultra line. Samsung’s announced U.S. starting prices were $379.99 for Bluetooth and $429.99 for LTE. LTE availability and service costs depend on carrier support and plan.
Those prices and availability are U.S.-specific: Samsung began U.S. preorders on July 22, 2026, and general availability on August 7, 2026. Prices, offers, and specifications can differ by country and change over time. See Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement for launch details.

Should existing Galaxy Watch owners upgrade?
The Ultra2’s 210 mAh increase over the previous Ultra is clear on paper, but whether it justifies replacing a working watch depends on your charging needs, not the percentage alone. Owners of older standard models should compare their specific watch’s battery and condition with the new model rather than relying on a single generational figure. If a compact fit or lower price matters more than maximum capacity, the Watch9 may be the more practical choice.
