Samsung announced the Galaxy S24 FE smartphone and the cellular Galaxy Watch FE LTE on September 26, 2024. The S24 FE launched in the United States at $649.99, while the Watch FE LTE started at $249.99, before carrier service charges and later discounts.
They are not one combined product category: the S24 FE is a large, value-focused Galaxy phone, while the Watch FE LTE is Samsung’s entry-level Wear OS watch for users who want selected phone-free functions over cellular connectivity.
What Samsung launched
The Galaxy S24 FE expanded Samsung’s 2024 S24 family with a lower-priced phone offering Galaxy AI, Samsung’s One UI software and a three-camera system. The Galaxy Watch FE LTE was the cellular version of the Watch FE that Samsung first announced in June 2024.
Samsung announced the Bluetooth Watch FE in the United States on June 13, 2024, with availability beginning June 24. The S24 FE and Watch FE LTE announcement followed on September 26. The S24 FE’s commonly reported retail release date was October 4, 2024, while U.S. Watch FE LTE preorder deliveries were reported for October 7.

Full technical details are available in Samsung Mobile Press’s S24 FE specifications. Samsung promised seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the phone. That is a support-policy promise, not a guarantee that every future Galaxy feature will be available on the device.
Galaxy AI
Samsung promoted the S24 FE as a way to access its Galaxy AI features at a lower entry price. The highlighted tools included Circle to Search with Google, Live Translate and related call-language features, Photo Assist, object editing, Sketch to Image, Instant Slow-mo and the ProVisual Engine.

“Galaxy AI” is a broad label rather than one uniform capability. Individual features can depend on the language, region, application, Samsung or Google account, software version and whether processing takes place on the phone or in the cloud. Availability can also change over time, so buyers should check the current Samsung product page for their market.

Samsung’s Watch FE announcement positions the model as an affordable route into Galaxy Watch health tracking and Wear OS rather than as a premium smartwatch.
What LTE actually changes
The Watch FE LTE can support calls, messages, mobile data, selected music and podcast streaming, navigation, workouts, health tracking, Samsung Wallet and other connected functions when the phone is not nearby. That makes it potentially useful for running, walking, commuting or short trips without carrying a phone.

LTE is not free, and it does not make the watch a complete smartphone replacement. Activation requires a compatible carrier plan and carrier provisioning, generally through the Galaxy Wearable app. Samsung’s U.S. support information names AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon as carrier options, but plans, eligibility, activation rules and coverage can change.
Standalone behavior also varies by app, account, network and carrier. Pairing and setup still require a compatible Android phone, and some health, camera-control, payment or ecosystem features may be limited when the watch is used with a non-Samsung phone. Check Samsung’s compatibility guidance and LTE activation guidance for the exact handset and carrier before buying.
Where the value is—and where Samsung cut costs
Galaxy S24 FE strengths
- A large, bright AMOLED display with a smooth adaptive refresh rate.
- A 4,700mAh battery, larger than the battery in the base Galaxy S24.
- A dedicated 3x telephoto camera, which is uncommon in this price class.
- Wireless charging, IP68 protection and Samsung’s long promised support period.
- Access to Samsung’s One UI and Galaxy AI ecosystem.
Galaxy S24 FE compromises
- At 213g, it is large and heavy; it is not a compact Galaxy S24 alternative.
- The panel is FHD+, rather than the higher-resolution display used by the Galaxy S24+.
- It does not use the more power-efficient LTPO display technology found in some higher-end Galaxy models.
- 25W wired charging is modest beside faster-charging Android competitors.
- The 8MP telephoto is less ambitious than the zoom hardware on premium S-series phones, and a 3x lens does not make it equivalent to an S24 Ultra camera system.
The Exynos 2400e should not be judged by its name alone. Performance, heat and efficiency depend on the particular software and firmware, so those conclusions should come from independent testing. Reviews from Engadget and Tom’s Guide generally found a capable phone but questioned whether its launch price was low enough against discounted Samsung flagships.

The Watch FE LTE’s trade-offs are similarly clear: its lower price buys basic Galaxy Watch functionality, health sensors, GPS and cellular connectivity, but not the newest platform, longest battery life, largest display or most premium construction. Its 247mAh battery and 40mm format also make it a better fit for buyers comfortable with compact watches and regular charging.

The U.S. launch prices were $649.99 for the Galaxy S24 FE and $249.99 for the Galaxy Watch FE LTE. Samsung’s trade-in, bundle and carrier promotions could substantially change those calculations, and launch MSRP should not be confused with today’s street price.

As of August 18, 2026, Samsung’s U.S. S24 FE page still displayed a “from $649.99” price signal. That does not establish live inventory, delivery timing or the best price across retailers. Buyers should compare the exact storage version and current offers against newer devices.

How the older FE models fit in 2026
The Galaxy S24 FE launched in 2024, and Samsung’s newer FE phone is the Galaxy S25 FE. Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP document listed the 256GB S25 FE at $709.99. If the price gap is small, the newer model is generally the more sensible starting point because it offers a newer generation and a longer remaining support horizon. The S24 FE becomes more compelling when it is meaningfully cheaper, especially if its display, camera layout and software support meet your needs.
For watches, compare the Watch FE LTE with the current Galaxy Watch8 family. A newer model is worth the premium when performance, battery life, newer sensors, display size or longevity matter. The Watch FE LTE remains relevant when its hardware price is substantially lower and the buyer specifically wants inexpensive cellular Galaxy Watch access.
Who should buy each device?
Choose the Galaxy S24 FE if you want:
- Samsung software and Galaxy AI without paying the full flagship-family price.
- A large screen and a relatively large battery.
- A real telephoto camera rather than only main and ultrawide cameras.
- Wireless charging, IP68 protection and long promised software support.
- A discounted Samsung phone that works well with Galaxy Buds or a Galaxy Watch.
Look elsewhere if you need:
- A compact, lightweight phone.
- Very fast wired charging.
- The strongest zoom, selfie or low-light camera performance.
- A current-generation phone at roughly the same price.
- A different software design or fewer Samsung services.
Choose the Galaxy Watch FE LTE if you want:
- An affordable entry into Samsung’s cellular smartwatch ecosystem.
- Calls, messages, tracking and selected connected features away from your phone.
- Samsung health features and Galaxy-phone integration in a compact 40mm case.
- A watch line whose recurring carrier cost is acceptable.
Choose a newer or Bluetooth watch instead if:
- You almost always carry your phone and do not need cellular connectivity.
- The LTE plan makes the total cost too close to a newer watch.
- You prioritize longer battery life, faster performance, newer sensors or a larger display.
- You expect the longest remaining support period.
Verdict
The Galaxy S24 FE’s best case is not that it is a smaller flagship—it is neither smaller nor especially light. Its appeal is a large AMOLED display, useful camera hardware, Galaxy software, AI tools and a long promised update policy at a price that works when discounts are substantial. At its $649.99 launch price, Samsung’s own discounted flagships made the decision less straightforward.

The Galaxy Watch FE LTE is a different proposition: an entry-level Galaxy Watch with selected phone-free functions over LTE. Its $249.99 hardware price is only part of the purchase. It makes sense for buyers who will genuinely use cellular connectivity and accept the carrier plan; people who keep their phone nearby should compare the Bluetooth model and discounted newer watches instead.
