Samsung Galaxy Ring Health Features: What the APK Teardown Revealed—and What Actually Shipped

A June 30, 2024 Samsung Health APK teardown previewed four Galaxy Ring functions—heart-rate, stress, skin-temperature cycle prediction and snore detection—but leaked interface code was not a final specification. Samsung later confirmed the ring’s practical health set, including sleep tracking, overnight blood oxygen, skin temperature, activity and cycle tracking. It still should not be treated as a ring-based ECG, blood-pressure cuff, glucose monitor or sleep-apnea diagnostic device.

What the Samsung Health APK appeared to reveal

Android Authority’s June 30, 2024 teardown found Samsung Health interface elements and feature hooks for four functions:

• Heart-rate measurement
• Stress measurement
• Skin-temperature measurement used for period prediction
• Snore detection

An APK teardown can expose unfinished or abandoned code. Those findings therefore showed what Samsung was preparing in the app, not a guaranteed retail feature list. The distinction matters because early reports often presented every visible menu as if it were a shipping specification.

What Samsung later confirmed

Samsung’s product and support material subsequently documented a broader, but more clearly defined, set of Galaxy Ring capabilities. The ring works with Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearable on a compatible Galaxy phone; it has no screen for displaying readings on the device itself. Samsung describes the phone and apps as the place where collected data is processed, displayed and turned into summaries.

Feature-by-feature: what the ring can tell you

Heart-rate monitoring

The teardown’s heart-rate screen was later consistent with Samsung’s official Galaxy Ring descriptions. The ring can contribute heart-rate data to Samsung Health for sleep, activity and general wellness trends.

“Heart-rate monitoring” does not mean continuous medical monitoring. The APK did not establish ECG, atrial-fibrillation diagnosis, emergency alerts or cardiac treatment. Samsung lists ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications and blood-pressure functions with compatible Galaxy Watch products; those broader ecosystem features must not be imported into the Ring’s specification.

Stress tracking is an estimate, not a diagnosis

The teardown exposed a stress-tracking interface. Samsung Health should be understood as estimating stress-related metrics from wearable sensor data. It does not directly measure anxiety, cortisol or a mental-health disorder.

Use the result as a prompt to review sleep, activity and routines—not as proof that the ring knows when you are anxious or as a clinical assessment. Trends can be useful for behavior changes, but a high or low score is not a diagnosis.

Skin temperature and menstrual-cycle prediction

Overnight skin-temperature readings are among the most consequential features previewed by the teardown. Samsung later confirmed that temperature trends can support cycle tracking. Availability depends on country or region and the relevant Samsung service.

Temperature-based prediction is affected by illness, medication, travel, disrupted sleep, environmental conditions, inconsistent wear and other physiological changes. It requires a run of usable overnight data rather than a single reading. Cycle Tracking is a wellness and prediction feature—not a guaranteed method of contraception, a fertility diagnosis or a pregnancy test. Samsung’s broader cycle-tracking information is published in its Galaxy wearable health announcement.

Snore detection relies on the phone

The APK indicated snore detection, and Samsung’s support documentation later described how it works. The ring supplies wearable sleep context, but audio-based recording uses the nearby phone’s microphone. The phone must be close to the bed and charging when recording is required.

Snoring is not sleep-apnea detection. Samsung’s separate sleep-apnea documentation concerns a regulated feature associated with compatible Galaxy Watch hardware; it does not turn ordinary Galaxy Ring snore recordings into an apnea diagnosis. Sleep tracking and overnight blood oxygen

Samsung’s support page lists sleep time, heart rate during sleep, blood oxygen during sleep, skin temperature during sleep, snoring and sleep-related trends or coaching. Blood oxygen and skin-temperature measurements may need to be enabled manually in Galaxy Wearable’s advanced settings.

These are wellness readings, not a promise of hospital-grade continuous oxygen monitoring. Samsung’s app may also present AI-generated wellness insights; those are interpretations of collected data, not additional sensors inside the ring.

How to enable the sleep measurements

1. Open Galaxy Wearable.
2. Open Sleep.
3. Tap the three-dot More options menu.
4. Select Advanced measurement.
5. Turn on Blood oxygen and/or Skin temperature during sleep.
6. Wear the ring overnight, then return to Galaxy Wearable → Sleep to review the result.

Menu names can change with app versions and regional software. A feature that is not visible may be disabled rather than absent.

How to enable snore detection

1. Open Galaxy Wearable and choose Sleep.
2. Tap More options → Advanced measurement.
3. Choose Snore detection.
4. Select a schedule: Always or Once.
5. Enable audio recording only after reviewing the privacy implications and Samsung Health permissions.
6. Keep the phone nearby and charging overnight when recording is needed.
7. Review the recorded information in the sleep section afterward.

Because the phone microphone is involved, check Samsung Health’s permissions and retention controls before turning on audio capture. The ring itself does not have a screen or a bedside microphone that replaces the phone.

What the APK did not prove

The teardown did not independently establish any of the following Galaxy Ring measurements or diagnoses:

• Blood-pressure measurement
• Electrocardiography (ECG)
• Blood-glucose measurement
• Medical-grade oxygen-saturation monitoring
• Sleep-apnea diagnosis or detection
• Clinical stress diagnosis
• Guaranteed fertility, contraception or pregnancy results

Samsung’s Health ecosystem can include data integrations and regulated features tied to other devices, especially Galaxy Watch models. A Samsung Health menu or announcement is not evidence that the Ring’s own sensors perform the same function.

Requirements, limitations and missing-data fixes

Phone and ecosystem requirements

The Ring connects over Bluetooth to a compatible Galaxy phone and uses Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearable. Expect the strongest experience with a Samsung account and supported Galaxy hardware. Feature availability can vary by country, handset, operating-system version, account and app release. iPhone users should not assume compatibility.

Fit, battery and sizing

Samsung advertises up to seven days of battery life when fully charged using the charging case; actual endurance varies with size, settings and use. Samsung’s U.S. store lists sizes 5 through 15, but availability varies by color and region. Ring sizing differs from ordinary rings, so using Samsung’s sizing kit is prudent before ordering. The current U.S. product page observed a $399.99 list price; promotions, trade-in credits and stock can change.

If a measurement is missing

• Confirm the ring is connected in Galaxy Wearable.
• Check Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearable permissions.
• Verify that the relevant advanced-measurement switch is enabled.
• Keep the phone within Bluetooth range overnight for phone-assisted features.
• Charge the phone overnight if snore recording is enabled.
• Check that the ring fits securely and its sensors contact skin.
• Wear it consistently; cycle and other trend features need historical data.
• Update Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health before further troubleshooting.

Samsung allows some sleep records to be entered manually. Treat manually entered values as different from sensor-recorded measurements when reviewing trends.

Galaxy Ring versus a Galaxy Watch

The Ring’s advantage is discreet, screen-free overnight wear. A Galaxy Watch remains the better fit for on-wrist display access, vibration alerts, active-workout controls and the Samsung features that are explicitly tied to watch hardware. Pairing both can provide complementary wear locations, but the Ring does not become a watch simply because both feed Samsung Health.

Should you buy it for health tracking?

It makes sense for

• Galaxy-phone owners already using Samsung Health.
• People who prioritize unobtrusive overnight tracking.
• Users wanting sleep, heart-rate, skin-temperature and activity trends without a display.
• Galaxy Watch owners seeking a more comfortable second device for sleep.

Look elsewhere if you need

• ECG, blood-pressure or glucose measurements from the ring itself.
• A medical diagnosis or a replacement for clinical testing.
• Phone-free snore recording, a display, vibration alerts or extensive workout controls.
• Uniform features in every country or freedom from Samsung’s app ecosystem.

For Samsung users, the Galaxy Ring is a credible wellness companion whose strongest case is comfortable overnight data collection. The APK teardown was an early preview, not proof of every capability; Samsung’s later documentation confirms the useful everyday features while leaving medical measurements outside the Ring’s established scope.
