Use the Google Play Store—not the Galaxy Store—to install apps on a Samsung Galaxy Watch6 or Watch6 Classic. These models run Wear OS, so compatible apps can be installed directly on the watch or sent to it from an Android phone. Guides written for older, Tizen-based Galaxy Watches may show a different process.
Before you start
- Your Galaxy Watch6 or Watch6 Classic should be paired and set up in Galaxy Wearable.
- The watch needs Wi-Fi or an active LTE connection to browse and download apps.
- A Google Account must be added to the watch for Google Play.
- Charge the watch if its battery is low and check that it has available storage.
Menu names can vary slightly by region, phone model, Galaxy Wearable version and watch software.
Install an app directly on the Galaxy Watch6
- Wake the watch.
- Press the Home/Power button to open the apps screen.
- Open Play Store.
- Tap Search, then use the on-screen keyboard or microphone. You can also browse the available categories.
- Select the app you want.
- Tap Install.
- When installation finishes, open the app from the watch’s apps screen.
The Play Store on the watch filters for apps compatible with Wear OS. Depending on the app, you may be asked to sign in, approve permissions or authenticate with your Google Account.

Install a watch app using your Android phone
You can also use the Google Play Store on a connected Android phone:
- Open Google Play Store on your phone.
- Find the app.
- Look for the device selector or compatible-device list near the Install button.
- Select Galaxy Watch6 or Galaxy Watch6 Classic.
- Tap Install.
Selecting only the phone installs only the phone version. If the app has both phone and watch components, the watch must be selected explicitly or the watch component must be installed separately.
Samsung also provides a phone-based route through Galaxy Wearable → Store. Search or browse for the app, open its listing and tap Install. The exact label and available options can vary with the Galaxy Wearable version and region. Galaxy Wearable manages pairing and the watch; the Play Store is the actual Wear OS app marketplace. Install an app that is already on your phone
Having an Android app on your phone does not automatically install its watch version. To check for a compatible companion:
- Open Play Store on the watch.
- Browse to Apps on your phone.
- Select the compatible app.
- Tap Install.
The developer must provide a Wear OS version or companion for this option to appear. Google explains the separate phone and watch installation process in its Wear OS app guidance.
How to tell whether an app supports the Watch6
An app displayed in the Play Store on the watch is generally compatible with that Wear OS device. When using the phone or web Play Store, check the device selector instead.

If your Galaxy Watch6 does not appear as an installation destination, the app may be:

- Unavailable in your country or region.
- Restricted by your Google Account, device configuration or software version.
- Available as a phone app but not as a Wear OS app.
Search for the app directly on the watch before assuming it is supported. Not every Android app can run on Wear OS.
If the Play Store is missing
First confirm that the watch is actually a Galaxy Watch6 or Watch6 Classic. Older Galaxy Watch models based on Tizen used a different app-store setup.
- Finish initial pairing and setup in Galaxy Wearable.
- Confirm that a Google Account has been added to the watch.
- Install available watch and phone updates.
- Restart both the watch and phone.
- Try opening Play Store again after the watch reconnects.
Do not try to install the Galaxy Store on the watch. Samsung states that the Galaxy Store is not available on Wear OS Galaxy watch models; the Watch6 uses Google Play instead. See Samsung’s Google services support page.
Fix a download that is stuck or fails
- Check the connection: confirm that the watch is connected to Wi-Fi or LTE. For a phone-based installation, confirm that the phone and watch are paired and communicating.
- Charge the watch: a low battery can prevent or interrupt installation.
- Restart both devices: restart the watch and the connected phone, then try again.
- Check Play Store updates: open Play Store on the watch and allow pending updates to finish.
- Try the other installation route: install from the watch if the phone method fails, or use the phone if the watch search is having trouble.
- Check storage: remove unused apps if the watch is nearly full.
- Update Samsung software: update Galaxy Wearable, the Galaxy Watch6 Plugin and the watch software on the phone.
- Check the Google Account: make sure the account used for Play Store is present on the watch and that any requested authentication is completed.
If only one app fails while other apps install normally, the problem is more likely to be that app’s compatibility, regional availability or developer support. If many apps fail, focus on connectivity, account, Play Store, storage or pairing problems.
The Galaxy Wearable app and Galaxy Watch6 Plugin are phone-side components used for connection and management. The plugin is not a standalone app and should be used together with Galaxy Wearable.

Remove an app from the Galaxy Watch6
To remove an ordinary watch app:
- Open Play Store on the watch.
- Open the app’s listing or the watch’s app-management area.
- Choose Uninstall or Remove, then confirm.
You can also manage installed apps from Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Apps. Available controls depend on the app and software version. Some Samsung system apps cannot be removed in the same way as ordinary downloaded apps.
Update apps
Open Play Store on the watch and check its app-management or update area. Install pending updates when the watch is connected to the internet and has enough battery. Keeping Galaxy Wearable, the Galaxy Watch6 Plugin, Play Store and watch software current can also resolve installation problems.
Can you install apps without a phone?
After the watch has been set up, signed in to a Google Account and connected to Wi-Fi or LTE, you can search for and install compatible apps directly from its Play Store. A phone is still normally needed for initial setup and remains useful for account authentication, app discovery, pairing and apps that require a phone companion.
iPhone users face additional Wear OS connectivity and app-availability limitations. The direct watch method may work under Google’s stated connectivity conditions, but not every app or management feature is available to iPhone and iPad users. For the smoothest Watch6 setup, Samsung and Google’s instructions are primarily oriented toward Android.
What about APK sideloading?
Sideloading an APK is not necessary for ordinary Watch6 app installation. It bypasses the Play Store’s compatibility and security checks and can create update or support problems. Use the official Play Store unless you have a specific advanced reason and fully understand the risks; avoid random APK sites and third-party app stores.
