The Galaxy Watch FE LTE was a real U.S. product, but $249.99 is its original launch MSRP—not a newly announced 2026 price. Samsung announced the LTE version in June 2024, made it available through Samsung.com, carriers, and retailers in September 2024, and later listed its U.S. LTE variants as EOL in an MSRP document effective March 2025. Remaining stock may still exist, but buyers should verify the condition, model number, warranty, return policy, and carrier compatibility before paying anywhere near full price.
What the Galaxy Watch FE LTE is
The Galaxy Watch FE LTE is Samsung’s lower-cost, 40mm-class Wear OS smartwatch for Android users who want cellular connectivity. Its LTE radio can let the watch handle calls, messages, navigation, music streaming, supported apps, workouts, and Samsung Wallet away from the phone—but only after the watch is paired with a compatible Android smartphone and activated on a qualifying carrier plan.
It is not a completely independent phone, and the $249.99 purchase price does not include cellular service.
Samsung’s U.S. LTE model is identified as SM-R866U. The listed colors are black, pink gold, and silver. Samsung’s March 2025 U.S. wearables MSRP sheet retains the $249.99 MSRP but marks those LTE variants EOL, meaning this is now an older model rather than a current-generation release.

Was the $249 price real?
Yes—but the precise launch price was $249.99, not exactly $249. The Bluetooth-only Galaxy Watch FE launched at $199.99, making LTE a $50 premium.

That historical price should not automatically be treated as the current Samsung selling price. A listing in 2026 could represent remaining new stock, an open-box unit, a refurbished watch, an imported regional model, or a marketplace product sold by a third party. Check the listing carefully before buying.
Galaxy Watch FE LTE availability timeline
- June 10, 2024: Samsung announced the Bluetooth Galaxy Watch FE for U.S. availability beginning June 24 and said an LTE model would follow. Samsung’s announcement.
- September 2024: Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Watch FE LTE was available in the U.S. through Samsung.com, major carriers, and major retailers, starting at $249.99. Samsung’s availability announcement.
- March 2025: Samsung’s U.S. MSRP documentation marked the LTE color variants EOL while still showing the $249.99 MSRP.
- 2026: Treat the FE LTE as discontinued or end-of-life unless a retailer independently confirms legitimate inventory.
So “finally available” accurately describes the delayed LTE rollout in 2024, not a new product launch in 2026.

- Use Samsung Wallet where the feature, region, and payment setup support it.
LTE is useful for runners, people who regularly leave their phones behind, children, and anyone who wants a communications backup. It is unnecessary if your phone is almost always nearby; in that case, the Bluetooth FE avoids a recurring cellular charge.
Standalone behavior depends on the carrier and account. Some calling, messaging, and data functions may be limited when the paired phone is powered off or disconnected. Number sharing, watch-line rules, eSIM provisioning, and support for specific features vary by carrier and location. Samsung’s U.S. activation guidance names AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, but that does not mean every account or exact configuration will work automatically.

Samsung listed Wear OS powered by Samsung with One UI 5 Watch at announcement. That is a launch-era software specification, not a guarantee of the final software version or update status in 2026. Health features can also depend on the phone model, Samsung Health Monitor availability, region, software, and applicable regulatory approvals. Not every Android phone necessarily supports every health function.
What is in the box?
Samsung lists the Galaxy Watch FE, a matching strap, and a wireless charger. A wall charger is sold separately, so you need a compatible USB power source if you do not already have one.

Phone and carrier compatibility
The FE is designed for Android phones, not iPhones. Samsung’s launch specification lists Android 6.0 or later with more than 1.5GB of memory, but LTE activation also requires a network-connected phone with an active SIM during normal setup.
Before buying, confirm all of the following:
- You use a compatible Android phone.
- The watch is the U.S. model SM-R866U, rather than an imported regional version.
- Your carrier supports that exact model and your account is eligible for a smartwatch line or number-sharing service.
- The seller provides a clear U.S. warranty and return policy.
iPhone owners should not buy the FE LTE expecting Apple Watch-style compatibility. Imported watches may also have different LTE bands, firmware, warranty coverage, or carrier provisioning.
How to activate LTE
- Pair the LTE watch with a compatible smartphone.
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app.
- Open the watch settings or Home tab and tap Mobile plans.
- Allow the app to search for an eligible LTE network.
- Follow the carrier’s activation instructions.
- For AT&T or Verizon, provide the carrier-issued QR code when prompted.
After activation, the watch should show an active mobile plan or cellular connection. Calls, messages, and supported data services will then follow the carrier’s rules.

If activation fails
- Confirm that the watch is the LTE model, not the Bluetooth-only version.
- Update the phone, Galaxy Wearable app, and watch where possible.
- Check that the phone has an active SIM and eligible carrier account.
- Ask the carrier whether it supports SM-R866U.
- Request a new QR code after resetting the watch or its mobile network.
- Give the carrier the watch’s EID, IMEI, or ICCID if it needs to verify the device.
- Do not assume an unlocked or marketplace watch works on every network.

The real cost of ownership
Budget for more than the watch itself. Depending on the purchase and carrier, additional costs may include:
- A monthly smartwatch cellular plan.
- Activation or upgrade fees.
- Taxes and regulatory fees.
- A wall charger or replacement strap.
- Return shipping or restocking charges.
- Potential battery, account, or warranty risks with used marketplace stock.
There is no single universal monthly price to quote: carrier plans, promotions, account eligibility, and number-sharing rules change. Confirm the total at your carrier’s checkout before treating the watch as a $249 purchase.

A Bluetooth-only FE remains the better choice for someone who keeps a phone nearby and does not want a monthly watch plan. Buyers outside Samsung’s ecosystem should also compare other Android-compatible LTE watches, but must verify phone, carrier, and health-feature compatibility separately.
2026 buying checklist
- Price: Is it meaningfully below $249.99 rather than merely matching the launch MSRP?
- Condition: Is it new and sealed, certified refurbished, open-box, or used?
- Model: Does the listing clearly show SM-R866U?
- Carrier: Has your carrier confirmed support before you open the box?
- Coverage: Is there a U.S. warranty and an easy return policy?
- Included accessories: Is the wireless charger present, and do you have a wall adapter?
- Recurring cost: Have you checked the carrier’s current watch-plan fees and activation requirements?
- Phone: Are you using Android rather than iPhone?
Who should buy it?
The Galaxy Watch FE LTE can still make sense if you find a genuinely discounted unit, use a compatible Android or Samsung phone, specifically need phone-free connectivity, and can confirm carrier support before purchase.
Skip it if a seller asks the full $249.99 launch price and a newer Galaxy Watch7 LTE is available for only a modest premium. Also skip it if you use an iPhone, do not want a recurring cellular charge, need current flagship performance or health features, want a larger watch, or cannot verify whether the listing is a U.S.-compatible model.
